Congrats on your health improvements! Thank you for sharing this with all of us.

I feel you @tattoomary . I've been having trouble with binges lately, too, and it's purely emotional eating. Knowing intellectually what I should be eating to fuel my body and brain, and what I should avoid for health reasons, all the knowledge in the world doesn't help when I get triggered. The switch in my brain flips,…

Thanks for this. I love Ivor Cummins!

Keep in mind that the macros you get from any of the online calculators will only be a starting point for you. Your macros will not remain constant forever. I suggest trying the recommendations of the one that makes the most sense to you now, then re-calibrate after six or eight weeks depending on the results you're…

Love this! The further our food gets from nature, the further we should keep it from our mouths!

@mkrefting You are absolutely correct that you have to find what works for you. I didn't mean to suggest that you can't or shouldn't eat what you want to, or have a "cheat" now and then. I was just expressing what works/doesn't work for me. Enjoy your time with your son!

I have to agree with Sunny_Bunny_ and Dragonwolf. If I "carb out" for any reason, I pay for it the next day. Headaches, indigestion, bloating, brain fog, fatigue. . . any or all of those can happen.

That was freaking hilarious! And insightful and inspiring. I love it when he says his goal is not to change the dietary advice that the USDA is giving people, but rather to get people to stop listening to it. I realized recently that I take for granted that the information about what constitutes a healthy diet is so…

The Wellness Guys did a good two-part podcast about the EAT Lancet diet, as well. http://thewellnesscouch.com/twg/twg-383-eat-lancet-planetary-health-diet-part-1 http://thewellnesscouch.com/twg/twg-384-eat-lancet-part-2 They pointed out that the Lancet report outlined who the diet is NOT appropriate for, and it's basically…

I try to stay between 20-30 total carbs per day (not net carbs), and I'm doing it mainly for BG control. Weight loss is a secondary goal. Getting the calories in without overdoing protein is simple: just add fat!

Agreed, @tifano ! And what @tcunbeliever said about cortisol is spot on, too. After I stalled for a few months I gave up on the calories and just focused on giving my body the nutrition it needs, and the weight started coming off again slowly. Then I focused on my sleep, both quantity and quality, and the weight is coming…

Hi @Anon2018, and welcome! There is no "one size fits all" when it comes to carbohydrate intake. A lot depends on your goals. Are you trying to lose weight? Are you diabetic, and trying to lower blood sugar? Are you combating insulin resistance? For some people, 100g of carbs per day is ideal. Others need to go lower, and…

If you haven't already, read the sticky about Keto Flu. There's a lot of good info for alleviating the symptoms in there.

Sirloin with a merlot and butter reduction.

Most of the time the pre-shredded cheeses have some kind of starch on them to prevent sticking and clumping. That means extra carbs just for the sake of convenience. I shred my own.

Smart kid!

You just had to go there, didn't you.

Some sweeteners can cause reactions in some people, including kicking them out of ketosis. The 2 Keto Dudes did an episode about them: 2ketodudes.com/show.aspx?episode=7

Same here. At least it wasn't bottom of the heap.

I've never heard of breading bone-in wings. Sacrilege! Bread the boneless ones, but leave the REAL wings alone!
-
It's a saliva test. It just involved drooling into vials at four specified times during the day.

Okay now I'm confused. The box says One Touch VerioIQ, but I've read every word of the instruction manual and there is no mention of the ability to download readings to a PC. *sigh* I just want the newest, shiniest one! And I deserve it, cuz pricking fingers multiple times a day is a pain in the *kitten*!

Wow, there's a lot of great info on this thread! I just want to highlight the cortisol issue some more. My doctor had me do a cortisol test, which showed higher than normal levels at night. I also had a lot of trouble falling asleep and staying asleep. I started taking phosphorylated serine (brand name Seriphos), a…

As a carnivore, I know this WOE is not for everyone, but it works for me. I agree with @Sunny_Bunny_ that you should listen to your body. If it tells you it needs fiber, then eat fiber. If not, come to the dark side. We have bacon, too!
-
@RalfLott t If the offer still stands, I would love to know what they say about the One Touch VerioIQ. I had a fasting BG reading earlier this week of 110 (as expected), but two hours later after coffee and 1 Tbsp. HWC (no sweetener) the reading was 136. I don't see how that could be possible.
-
Just thinking about all that fiber makes my stomach hurt - lol! Ever since going carnivore, my stomach has been much happier. Fiber is not my friend. :D
-
@CraftHer it is usually done via a saliva test, where samples are taken at four or five specific times of the day.
