  • Now THAT makes perfect sense. I'm really struggling with eating enough lately, even though the weekly scale is still high and it's not time to measure again (1st of the month). Some of the reasons are: A: I'm just not hungry. B: There are not enough hours in the day to eat all it appears I should. C: KNOWING and DOING are…
  • Working on that!!!!
  • Wow .... I've obviously been busy. Monthly weigh and measure .... both are unchanged. We've been busy in the yard, etc., and doing the weight workouts. I'm wondering if maybe I need a smidge more calories? I'm topping out at about 2100 to 2200 fairly consistently, but some days when I'm gardening I see on the fitbit that…
  • The thing is, it doesn't HURT. I think she may just be overcautious. What DOES hurt is my left knee (I know, a whole different issue). She examined that when I was in last week said there didn't appear to be any serious damage (I twisted it pivoting to sit down, how's that for stupid easy?) but she thinks it may have…
  • @heybales, actually, she's very proactive on lifting weights and eating appropriately and all the things we're working on here, as well as very athletic in her own life. I did promise, if nothing else, not to increase the weights on the pulldowns and stay where I am for a while so as not to hurt it any further, and if…
  • But one thing .... saw my doc this week, and she's really unhappy with me doing anything overhead (i.e., lat pulldowns) because I do have a rotator cuff injury. What can I substitute?????
  • I wasn't too impressed with the food. I was happier with the American foods. Other than having some sort of crud the last 2 days, I'm feeling great.
  • Buffet was interesting.
  • Been a busy week .... still at 2100-ish, but I was sick and whiny and missed Wednesday at the gym. Yesterday I was so fried by 5 that I barely made it through the weights, and said to heck with the cardio; I just could not make myself do that as well. Tonight I will probably blow through every calorie I can find; we're…
  • True ... but I seem to be stabilizing at 2100, so not going to complain, and will sit here for a little bit and see what transpires. Meanwhile, I keep doing what I've been doing as far as working out, increasing weights a little at a time, and getting in a bit of cardio when I can. I'm not obsessing over the treadmill or…
  • Well, according to it, I burned less than 2100 calories yesterday, so I'd say my TDEE has been inflated. Will watch it over the next couple of weeks and see what it does.
  • You're right there ... it is hard as hell. Some days I hate the process, some days I hate myself, and some days I just want to not freaking eat. And I'm up 20 pounds since last June, when I started the process. But I'm lifting now, and doing a little cardio simply because I feel like I CAN move more.
  • I am so jealous!!! I cannot seem to get those kind of results!!! You're rocking it!!
  • You're gonna do great ... these folks are so supportive.
  • Today I bought a fitbit. Hopefully it will be a useful tool.
  • I'm doing the "trust, trust, trust" mantra right now. I have to keep reminding myself that body comp is what we're working on here. And frankly, I'm not sure I'm at TDEE yet, so I'm going to try adding 100 for the next week and see what that does for me. This really is an ongoing process. I've been on EM2WL since June…
  • I figure if I don't know, someone else doesn't, either!
  • As I suspected. There's no such thing as a perfect weigh-in day. But I'm finally getting over those numbers and learning to gauge by how I FEEL. Thanks for the input!!
  • Ladies, please define for me "non-valid weigh-in days." I'm not quite sure I know what that means. I've been struggling with the scale as well, @Sevio ... Up 15 pounds since I started increasing my calories in June 2016. Could be worse, could be better. But I'm committed to doing this thing, because I KNOW I felt terrible…
  • Happy New Year to you as well, @TerezaToledo!
  • NSV... I've been following EM2WL since June, have upped intake from 800 to 2200 cal/day, and recently started strength training. No gain or loss yet, but I'm still recovering from major metabolic damage, so no worries there. Long story short, this weekend for the first time EVER, I was able to practically RUN up steps…
  • 3000? I can't IMAGINE being able to eat that much (yet)!!!
  • Thanks!! I was thinking that might be the case, and you confirmed it!
  • Along the same lines, how do we know how much to increase our estimated TDEE when we start strength training? Or do we just recalc our TDEE with more activity?
  • ....and on Black Friday ALL the crazies come out!!! My mum and sisters and I used to hit it every year, but we eventually gave it up when shoppers got so aggressive. I do anything important on line now!!
  • @empressichel, the calculators actually estimated in the 1800-1850 range. The scale has jumped another pound up since I posted on Tuesday, so I'm thinking I may have hit TDEE at 2000-2100 for now, until I can get into a proper lifting program. I have a rotator cuff injury, and a very cranky left hip and knee, so that's…
  • Hey, gang ... Welcome to November (at last). Just checking in; up to 2100, and the scale climbed a couple pounds and has stayed there for 10 days. I'm giving 2100 another week, and if it continues to climb, or stays the same, I'm gonna drop back to 2050 and see if it remains stable there. If it does, then I'm guessing that…
  • This is a great thread .... I'm looking at getting started on some weights, so I'll be following here!
  • So I should move back toward 1800 and get back in the holding pattern. Meanwhile, maybe I could begin to do some light work with weights? One interesting thing I've seen is that my HAIR is starting to regrow. Not scalp hair, but the eyebrows that had thinned to nearly nothing are thickening back up (and, of course, the…
