Does anyone else believe that timing of carbohydrates matters? I did low carb and it's hard to get the idea that if I am going to eat carbs it should be earlier in the day (so i have a chance to burn them off) instead of at night. With CICO obviously its the same but some thinking dies hard.

Sounds to me like he is insecure and you weighing close to the same amount as him threatens his "manhood." You need to talk about this insecurity, since you aren't willing to leave him, and get to the deeper root of the issue. Also, do not allow him to talk to you like that without consequences. I like to only eat back half of the calories I burn. Either way as long as it's manageable it sounds healthy. The word "binge" is concerning, but I don't think you meant it like that.

Side note: I am 30 years old, male, 6 foot 4 and currently at 226lbs. My heaviest was 256lbs (4 years ago before I began strength training so I have a lot more muscle now).

My opinion is that whatever way you SUSTAINABLY get yourself into a CONSISTENT caloric deficit is the best way.

No, but the man speaks the truth. The body, in it's constant attempt to retain fat and burn as little fat/energy as possible, adapts to everything we do. This physiology kept people alive when the next meal could be a week or more away. I mean HIIT or no HIIT it doesn't matter.
