5 weeks in. I lost about 1 pound per week.

Diet or regular soda? If regular that extra 150 calories on a diet that is already too low is a problem. When you say you eat "well" what does that mean? I can eat fruit all day & be significantly under my 1200 calorie allotment but that is hardly eating well because it's not a balanced diet. What does being shy have to do…

On the lunch menu have a salad or any of the fish entrees that are not fried. On the dinner menu have anything from the grill Just only eat half because those portions will be huge.
-
Invest in an insulated lunch bag / box. Freeze a bottle of water as your cooling source. Stock with your favorites
-
Break up when you eat. I need small healthy snacks mid morning & mid afternoon
-
Cut your portion in half & immediately put it in a to go box Eat an appetizer not a dinner

Coming here is a good start. It's OK to take baby steps. You don't have to overhaul your whole life tomorrow. Spend a week logging. Just see what you eat. You ought to be shocked. I know I was. Once you have a base line, think about what you can eliminate reasonably or at least cut down. For me, I had to kick the soda. I…

I fall off the proverbial wagon most weekends. I like my wine. I have not gained weight but it does stall my weight loss. Many times I will drink my daily allotment of calories. As for the most calorie friendly drinks some light beers Budweiser 55, Miller 64, Michelob Ultra etc are the lowest in calories. Ironically a pint…

A lot of things will help: 1. Put your food on a smaller plate. We tend to eat with our eyes so the smaller plate will make it seem like you have more on your plate then a larger dinner plate that seems empty. 2. Eat more slowly. Put the fork down between bites if you have to. 3. Drink more water, at least an 8 oz glass…

Make the best choices you can. Just because you are eating out doesn't mean you should have the appetizer with all the sauce or two desserts. Opt for protein & vegetables. Because we eat with our eyes, learn to recognize a portion size visually even when you don't have a scale. If you can't be trusted not to eat the double…

Add in the little things. Park farther away. Take the stairs. Take the long way to the bathroom or better yet use the one on the next floor so you have to take the stairs. Get the whole family to go for a walk after dinner. I do squats & leg lifts while I brush my teeth. None of this is "logged" but I feel better when I…

Add in some calisthenics & toning. Even if you just lift a can or a closed box of something to add resistance.

Make your lunch. You will save $$ & calories.

Are you in therapy ? By that I mean a professional to talk things over with not just some doctor to push pills down your throat. If not try it as a 1st step. My therapist saved my life. Make sure you get some movement in every day. Go outside for at least 20 minutes. The vitamin D from the sun helps, especially at this…

I am so sorry about your house. {{hugs}} Knowing you are an emotional eater is one step in the right direction. You identified part of the problem. Since you know this you can address it. Part of it is you need to find a substitute. I always wished I could be one of those people who clean obsessively when they are upset;…

Think back on how / why you started this journey. What is you end goal? Now break that down in to smaller tasks & build in a reward for yourself that isn't about food. Personally, for me there is a bikini at the end of this. I am bound & determined to rock that cute little suit next Spring on my birthday. Whenever I feel…

Every couple of hours stop at a rest stop & at least take a walk around it.

I watch the news. I find it's about the only time I have to do so. What I can't stand is my gym (PF, of course) has the Food Channel on one of the TVs. I really don't want to watch somebody making dessert or some other delicious concoction with butter & cream & other fattening things while I'm working out. :s

MFP is designed to help you lose weight without working out. Go to the getting started page & read the directions about how to set the system up for yourself. Then eat within your calories & you will lose. While you are with the children, sneak in exercise / movement. I do squats at the counter while cooking. I do leg…

You use your best guess & round up. It's all you can do. I have found my restaurant meals don't really put me over. The "problem" is usually the portion size, not the food or even the preparation itself. If it's something I really love & I'd be tempted to eat the whole thing which is usually 2-3 portions, before I dig in I…

I found it easy to lose weight in college even with the bad behaviors like drinking & sitting around stuffing myself with chips & dip with the other girls on the floor. In college you walk everywhere. I also went to a BIG school. So taking books for my morning classes & running all over, then walking back to my dorm for…

Good for you. Try not to be too scared about the gym. Most people at the gym care about what they are doing, & can't be bothered watching you unless you do something to purposefully annoy them. It's OK to start slow. Do what you can. When I first started I was thrilled if I could do 10 minutes on the elliptical at level 1.…

Maybe I'll try the shreds 1st & see how I like that.

First you have to figure out your TDEE. Re-run the numbers at sedentary & maintain. That's your starting point. 1500 might be right then. You need to eat about 500 calories less per day / 3500 less per week to lose 1 pound.

I'm a competitive person. Join a group. There are dozens on here. Set goals & work to attain them. I hate to lose (except weight) so that motivates me.

I'm sorry about your grandfather. As an outlet for your stress & worry, can you volunteer somewhere to help fight whatever ails him? Since you were in the army, you know something about perseverance & physical conditioning. Draw on those old lessons to help you now. You mentioned PTSD. Are you getting therapy for it? Group…

So the BBQs were calorie disasters. I ate almost 2400 calories on Saturday. I was shocked to learn how many calories were in the tortilla chips I ate. But I drank too much wine on Sunday, almost 1200 calories worth, my daily total allotment, but I did keep my food under. It was too cold to swim either day so there was no…

You can. Start by throwing out all the junk food. If you can't bring yourself to throw it out, give it to a local food back. Do not buy more. Do you cook? Do you meal plan? Learn to do both. If you haven't already start tracking your food here on MFP. Read labels. Learn what one portion is; you will be shocked. Once you…

My weekends are calorie filled too. Alcohol is usually my main problem. What has helped me is not having the stuff in the house. It's hard to binge when the stuff isn't in the house. I'm not going to go out & get it.

We're changing seasons. Around here kids go back to school on Tuesday, after Labor Day. It's the unofficial end of summer. It's perfect time to make a change. Think about how fabulous you will look for the holidays. Plus there are opportunities for built in exercise -- raking leaves, walks to go look at the changing…
