Get yourself a copy of "Feeling Good: The New Mood Therapy" by Dr. Burns (www.amazon.com/Feeling-Good-New-Mood-Therapy/dp/0380810336/ref=sr_1_1). Read it and practice a few of the exercises. You should begin to feel better rather quickly. It worked wonders for me - only thing that worked and I tried everything else during a 40 year long bout with deep depression.

    Best wishes,

I thought I had pretty bad depression for years, it turns out it was severe occupational burnout. Basically having spent 15 years in EMS, started taking it's toll on my mindset and thought process. While it's slightly different than depression, a great many of the signs overlap (negative thoughts, lack of motivation, few positive emotions, etc)

I started going to a psychologist, and it's probably one of the best decisions I've ever made. I decided I'd rather try a psychologist over a psychiatrist, because I really didn't want someone messing around with my chemistry unless they had to.

I'd tried on my own several times to change, but I really didn't have much success until I was able to go talk to someone.

Taking that first step is definitely the hardest!

I think it is great that you know that something needs to be done. I have nothing more to add to what the other two posters said, but prayer. Do you know what caused you to go into this deep depression? I think that might help with choosing a therapist or psychologist. You are going to be so free and liberating once you get the help that you need. Don't give up or in, it's help out there for you!!!! <<<<hugs>>>>>

Are you in therapy ? By that I mean a professional to talk things over with not just some doctor to push pills down your throat. If not try it as a 1st step. My therapist saved my life.

Make sure you get some movement in every day. Go outside for at least 20 minutes. The vitamin D from the sun helps, especially at this time of year with the changing seasons & shorter days.
