  • Hey @madzyjj168 I have a recommendation for workout bras. I've been from 12/34GG to 8/30FF and one thing that has really helped for me is to have a bra comfortable enough to actually exercise in without being over-conscious of my boobs the whole time. Panache underwired 5010 is my absolute favourite, and the only one I can…
  • Hi! I'm faab genderqueer and I'm trying to do something similar. People at the gym ask me what my lifting goals are, and I like, just have no idea what to say. I generally go with "I want to be able to pick up heavy things", rather than try to explain.
  • Burgen Fruit toast is a great breakfast option - It's actually fairly high in protein compared to other breads. I spread yoghurt on mine because I'm a weirdo
  • I would generally aim to eat back most of my calories, because I'm on a fairly large deficit. I personally aim to eat 50 - 100% of exercise calories. So I guess it depends on goals, and current calorie deficit. If you're not sure of the accuracy of the watch, maybe aim to eat 50-70% of your exercise cals. That'll give you…
  • @fishshark I respectfully disagree, but I'm not actually interested in getting into an argument, so I'm just going to leave this topic
  • ???? This is a venting thread, other people are venting/ sharing their health food struggles too. I didn't claim to be special in that way. In fact, I was actually just trying to fit in. ???
  • And I was questioning her assumption. Because it seemed odd to me, she didn't specifically justify it, and I felt like I could relate to her despite apparently not fitting the criteria. Which wasn't attacking her or trying to derail the thread, maybe she just hadn't thought about allergies as a health issue similiar to the…
  • Regardless of whether allergies makes it easier or harder to regulate your dietary restrictions (which I don't actually think it does, not when some of the allergens are so ubiquitous), that doesn't invalidate my rant? Or may it any less relevant to the topic in fact: OP was frustrated about only being able to eat small…
  • Why are we barring allergies from this vent? Allergies ARE a health issue. And they drive me absolutely crazy. I am allergic to dairy, treenuts, and soy. What is one of my favourite foods ever? Chocolate almonds. Can I eat them without getting an asthma attack? Nope. Cheesecake? Won't be able to talk the next day. Anything…
  • For what it is worth, I had the same difficulty when I started calorie counting 7 weeks ago. The first week I didn't really think about what I ate, just logged it and came a little under. The second week I actually made an effort to eat healthy, and ended up having to fudge a few diary entries so that MFP didn't show me…
  • This is so me. I eat most of my calories for the day by 4pm. I usually only leave about 250cal for dinner. I also make sure to have a decent amount of complex carbs for breakfast, and then almost no carbs for dinner (so, meat & veges). Works for me. My favourite mid afternoon snack is hummus or avocado on whole grain…
  • I'm in Auckland now, so there's less accessible walks :( there's lots of interesting day walks in the Waitakeres, otherwise your best bet is to drive to coromandel/ruapehu for the weekend. Hmm I think I was actually thinking of the Uraweras, not Tararuas. All I remember was a lot of mud. And tree roots. One of my more…
  • The raspberry and dark chocolate one is the best, hands down. I find the others a little sweet
  • A realistic (but optimistic) loss would be: 2lbs or 1% of your body weight per week (whichever is larger). That's generally the maximum weightloss that is recommended by health professionals. So for you that would be ~10lbs per month. A lot of people lose a bit more than that in their first month though, as their body…
  • For me it's the mental game (which is a huge part of weight loss). If I know I can't eat ANYTHING more, and I'm hungry, then I'm just going to say screw it and eat whatever. And then feel guilty.
  • I'd also like to point out that some very successful diets also do this, like Weight watchers. Making [most] veges free can work, as long as you set your calorie intake appropriately, and adjust it if necessary.
  • @kwil74 I'm totally with you!!! I don't log them much either. Here is what I do: I treat logging fresh/steamed vegetables and fruit as optional. The exceptions are: potatoes and other high carb veges like kumara (sweet potato), peas(+other legumes), corn, bananas, avocados. This works better for me than tracking them,…
  • I would trust the machine over MFP, but sometimes MFP is accurate. For example my inner-ear heart rate monitor verified their jogging calorie estimates.
  • Hi! I'm Emmy from Auckland. My mother did Taupo last year, it's an awesome track! Are you doing it by yourself or in a relay?
  • Yeah, I realised that as I was reading some of the responses
  • EDIT: The ppl above have already given really good advice :)
  • I say this from experience haha. A weights class, a netball game playing midcourt, and then genius me decided to go on a jog and ended up 10km from home, barely able to put one foot in front of the other. FAIL
  • I think the more exercise you do, the more your body gets used to it. So if a 3hr practice is something you do regularly (2+ times a week), then I can see why you might feel like exercising more. I don't necessarily think more cardio is a bad thing, although I wouldn't recommend more weights after all that core work…
  • I think it was more the manner of exclusion. If he'd said "Men's question" or "need men's advice" or something, I wouldn't have looked. But I work in a technical team that is otherwise only men, so saying MENS ONLY is bound to make me turn up anyway...
  • Hard drugs? Yeah sure. Weed though? Probably not. I think in some ways weed is less damaging than alcohol, especially the way people drink here (NZ). Personally I find that people who smoke the odd joint to be just as fun as people who don't. People who smoke quite regularly are kind of boring though. The obvious exception…
  • Haha tell that to my trainer... I honestly think a good hard jog is less mentally scarring then trying (and failing) to do that 100th pressup. And don't don't even get me started on sit-ups.
  • 6 pounds in two weeks is a fair amount. I recently had a similiar drop in a two week period. The following week I was crazy hungry and really struggled to keep within my goal calories, even though it had been relatively easy the previous two weeks. I figure that it was my body reacting to the extreme calorie deficit of the…
  • This is misleading, generally when you lose weight you lose some lean body mass as well as fat. The exact proportion will depend on how you are eating, whether you are doing weightlifting, and how quickly you drop the weight. But you are never going to be able to keep ALL of the lean body mass.
  • And for something more rugged or overnight trips, you totally can't beat the Tararuas.
  • I used to live in Lower Hutt, I love hiking in the area! Have you ever done the rail trail up to the tunnel (in the hills behind upper hutt) that's great for an easy hike/cycle. So is the Eastbourne lighthouse. When the weather gets better you should go have a picnic at butterfly Creek (also Eastbourne), there is a…
