Feel free to add me as a friend. I'm 60 and had 25 pounds to lose when I started. I've lost 10. I also have a bad knee. Not sure where you are. I'm in Arizona.

I prep my lunches for the week on Sunday.

I got 2 nice pairs of jeans at Goodwill today for a total of $3.99. Very happy to have read this thread!

Are you on the iPhone? The 10.0.2 upgrade broke the bluetooth connections for all of my devices. In searching the web, I learned that it did that to pretty much everyone. I have a ticket in with Apple, but basically, until they fix that, I won't have exercise or steps synching to my phone apps.

Sorry to hear about the broken arm. I'd recommend talking to a physical therapist to set up a program.

One great way to burn more calories swimming is by including interval sprints in the workout. Here are some links: http://www.shape.com/fitness/workouts/beat-winter-blues-60-minute-interval-swimming-workout http://watchfit.com/exercise/hiit-swimming-workout/ You can find more by googling swimming interval sprints. Adapt…

I drink them in my water.

You can make your own nut milk! Here's a link that includes a video of the process: http://www.thekitchn.com/how-to-make-almond-milk-at-home-cooking-lessons-from-the-kitchn-189996 Some of the people on these boards can be opinionated when kindness would be more helpful. Don't let that scare you off!

You can get liquid minerals at just about any health store that you can mix into your water if you want to try it. They aren't expensive, and they don't have the added sugar of the pedialyte.

I am allergic to wheat (so no gluten), cane sugar, whey protein, eggs, almonds, and cranberries. I rarely feel like my choices are limited, because I cook for myself and I've learned how to sub for what I can't have. Sometimes I have failed experiments (I had one yesterday), but it's fun to figure out how to have that…

I have a lot of food allergies, including eggs which is a severe one. I am also allergic to whey, so no dairy milk, but I drink milk all the time. Either coconut milk or cashew milk. I am also allergic to cane sugar, so I really don't eat processed foods much anymore because sugar is added to almost everything now. There…

I put all the trimmings in a mason jar to keep it away from the greens. The greens I keep in a vented container with a paper towel to absorb the moisture. I've had greens last for a week and a half and still be good that way.

I am allergic to eggs, and intolerant to wheat, whey, cane sugar, almonds, and cranberries. Eating eggs will land me in the hospital or worse. Eating wheat causes my eczema to flare up. Eating cane sugar causes my blood pressure to sky rocket. Eating cranberries gives me a killer migraine and causes my blood pressure to…

If you like curries, I highly recommend Ragavan Iyer's book 660 Curries. He spent a year traveling around India and collecting recipes from home cooks. Everything I've cooked from that book is a winner.

You're welcome! We build each other up!

Not for veggies, but if you are baking muffins or cake, you can substitute unsweetened applesauce for most or all of your butter/oil.

I make my own sun dried tomatoes and store them in balsamic vinegar rather than oil. So good on a salad. This week I'm also having roasted beets, roasted Brussels sprouts, artichoke hearts, blue cheese and roasted unsalted sesame seeds.

I use a free app called AnyList. You can import recipes from the web and make a shopping list from it. Unlike MFP you can save the instructions for the recipe as well, so I actually cook from my phone now. You can get it for iOS and Android, plus you can access it on your computer at https://www.anylistapp.com/web Any…

Just take those out. For pineapple, put in another fruit that looks like it would work well in that recipe. For peppers, use another vegetable. For onion, well, there's no replacing the taste of that. Can you have leeks? I have a lot of food allergies and hack recipes all the time. I'd be happy to help you with specific…

You can also do interval training. We used to do 50s on the 60. So every 60 seconds, you started a new 50 meter swim. Here are some more interval ideas: http://dailyroutinefitness.com/interval-training-workouts/swimming-interval-training/

That looks awesome!

I made my baked apples recipe last night. Used small apples instead of large. Ended up with a delicious applesauce. LOL

Welcome! Just keep doing something. If you can get into a pool, it's much easier on the joints and muscles.

Hi Brenda! A positive attitude makes a big difference. You can do anything if you believe you can.

I have the Polar A300. It's very reasonably priced. Better quality and support than Garmin. (I've owned both.) Doesn't count laps or efficiency. You have to go higher end than the A300 for that. Works with an HRM to chart your pulse and figure your calories.

We do what we can do. I was a bit over zealous the last couple of weeks. This week, due to scheduling, I'm not exercising. I feel like a slug. Tomorrow I'm off work and I'm exercising!

Post away!

I make kombucha! My favorite second ferment is with fresh squeezed lemon juice, but blueberries, strawberries, and surprisingly apples all make great second ferments as well. I drink a bottle every day with my lunch.

Swimming is excellent. It assists the lymphatic flow to help move the swelling out of the area. If you can get to a pool where you can just gently walk in chest deep water, then you can work on the mechanics of your gait and get rid of any limp you have. Limping will put stress on your other knee, as well as your back.

Lunges are medically contraindicated for me. I found these exercises to build the gluts and legs instead: http://www.shape.com/fitness/workouts/no-squat-no-lunge-butt-workout I can't do #4, but I started doing all the rest of them.
