  • The beauty of running is that it is so easy to set your next goal and be motivated towards it. You got motivated for your 5k - who's to say there isn't a 10k in your future? Maybe further? I can't speak as to where you run, but there is always the option to vary your route to find more interesting things to see. And you…
  • Not a lot, but you might have slipped a notch or two on your running fitness. Since you've been running for about 3 weeks and missed the past 5 days, I would drop back to where you were two weeks ago for my starting back point. But that's me. I'm older and now tend to err on the side of caution.
  • I'm in. Might help keep me motivated.
  • All of them. Haven't been to the gym in over 10 years. Do not miss that. However, single favorite exercise used to be running. Needed to let that go due to injuries and now I'm enjoying riding my spin bike.
  • Ready to drink Muscle Milk is pretty good. I like the chocolate flavor and my wife prefers the vanilla. Also doesn't seem to cause issues with lactose intolerant people. The vanilla Muscle Milk mix is real good as well.
  • Coffee. Strong and black. :)
  • If this has been an issue for an extended period of time, discuss with your doctor and see if she or he will prescribe a sleep study. Sounds lie you need one.
  • As long as you are not exceeding your calorie goals, don't have a medical issue (such as diabetes) where what you eat at anytime of day has an impact, and are not an athlete trying to reach or maintain elite levels of performance, then no. It doesn't matter what you eat after your workout.
  • Ooops...that's Lolo, not Lulu.
  • Lulu has apps for a Run/Walk/Run program on iPhone for several distances from 5K to marathon. I do not know if there is an Android version. You can set the run/walk segments to match your ability (:5 secs secs run/:30 min walk, on up to run segments of 7 minutes). You can also set your cadence to match your ability. Maybe…
  • Most all fat blockers have some rather unpleasant side effects, anal leakage being one that pops out at me.
  • Do not go cheap on running shoes. You'll regret it if you do. If you are overweight, look for shoes that are suitable for heavy runners (there is a difference). You may want to go to a running specialty store to have your gait analyzed; you may need shoes that help stabilize over or under pronation. There are a ton of…
  • Run/Walk/Run is a popular program. Check out Jeff Galloway's book on it. Great program to run with minimal injury. iPhone has apps where Galloway coaches you through programs from 5K to marathon. Check the app store for lulu apps. I've not seen these available for Android devices. The app actually plays music to match your…
  • Bet you didn't think you'd open such a discussion with your question, eh? You'll get as many different answers to your question as there are runners. My suggestion is to invest in a running book/program written by a knowledgable author. Jeff Galloway and Jack Daniels are my two favorites. Galloway has a variety of books…
  • Worth the price of admission. My first tracker was a FitBit Flex. It worked very well. I now use a Garmin FR 230 and love it. If you can manage it financially, I would suggest getting one that also functions as a watch and HR monitor, not just a step counter. The gripe I had about FitBit Flex is they wanted me to wear it…
  • Lactose intolerance is real, with some fairly inconvenient symptoms for those who ignore it. Digestive distress of a variety of forms will be visited upon you. Yes, there are those who may have a gluten intolerance, but there are likely many more that read about it, claim they have it because they have some symptoms…
  • Elbows out is tougher on your shoulders. Rybo and I agree - your elbows should form the arrowhead with your head being the tip of the arrow.
  • I think your reaction was excessive, at least for this particular, singular situation.
  • I knew when I was in high school that I wanted to be a detective. Not sure why. Some things I saw and experienced shaped my decision. Seems that once I "knew" that in high school, nothing could stop me. Every step I took from that point on was directed to that goal. Military police, civilian police patrol officer then…
  • Have you considered a watch that gives you the data you want? Plenty of inexpensive watches are available that could help you stay on pace. Garmin and others have watches that capture all sorts of data, sync with your phone post race, and display a map of your run on their Garmin Connect portal afterwards.
  • Jeff Galloway, best-selling running author and former U.S. Olympian, has a Run/Walk/Run program/app. You run for a set time, walk for a set time, lather, rinse, repeat. The app has a feature that helps you maintain the pace that is right for you through increasing/decreasing the tempo of music played while exercising. It…
  • The way I look at the whole weight loss/CICO/health situation is like this: The smartest observation I ever heard coming from Arnold Schwarzenegger was in Pumping Iron. To paraphrase, Arnold described bodybuilding as creating a sculpture. A sculptor adds and removes medium (clay) here and there until he or she reaches then…
  • You likely need professional counseling to help you through this depressive episode. This should be your current goal. I would worry about the weight coming back once you are back to your normal state of mind.
  • Have someone who is knowledgeable check your form. Your form may be off; it may not. Some people have short torsos that allow them to squat more upright, hitting the quads more than the hams and glutes. Longer torsos need to bend forward which brings in the glutes. You may feel squats in your back if your back is…
