True re sociology (it's what I trained in) but research always starts with a hypothesis - it's rarely completely devoid of opinion. Anyway I just found it to be an interesting slant on the subject

Ok, the way I interpreted this blog was not as a scholarly, evidence based article and I don't think it pretends to be one. What I found interesting was the take on 'processed food' and the extent to which it does or doesn't impact on our health. It's more of a sociological paper rather than a piece of research. Surely…

Maybe she picked up on you seeing her as a 'sweet little old lady'?

I don't know the answer but this did make me smile, because I do this all the time. I suffer from a chronic illness and if people tell me I look well, I find myself wondering if what they're really saying is, I don't believe you're ill. But if they say gosh, you don't look well, I think, gee thanks, I don't need to hear…

Actually.... In the case of our current government (in the UK), no, I don't, but that's another discussion altogether :)

In reality, how often would someone with diabetes need to drink a sugary drink? Are we talking every day? Genuine question, I'm not doubting that it's an issue
-
Nothing is being banned, just taxed.

You are burning more than you are eating. Eat more or cut down on working out? Are you weighing your food? That made a big difference for me!
-
Probably not, but they nevertheless cause gut issues in some people - I am one. However, I rarely drink sugary soft drinks anyway so now I'll probably consume even less
-
The point I was making is that this won't necessarily change people's eating habits, which in the longer term is surely a better way of tackling obesity. Listening to the radio the other day and hearing how much sugar (some) people actually consume, I was staggered. I add sugar to tea and some cereals and often eat…

Ps the Which Lifting Program is the best for you? Is the thread you need to read and it's about 4 posts below your post
-
Are you sure about the calories? I need at least that just to maintain and I'm female, short and old (er)! As far as exercise programmes are concerned, there is a sticky thread at the top of this forum about different programmes and also one about calorie dense food (I can't paste the links on my phone) I don't like going…

They may not actually be damaging but many people can't tolerate them. Furthermore, replacing sugar with artificial sweeteners won't change people's palate and desire for sweet things.
-
Fair point. No one is saying :it's forbidden to drink sugary drinks. Only that if you want to, you'll have to pay more. However, I'm not convinced that sugary drinks are in themselves a cause of obesity. Coke etc was certainly freely available when I was growing up in the 50s and 60s yet there was less obesity. In fact…
-
This is a problem for me too as artificial sweeteners kill my gut.
-
I don't drink much coke anyway but when I do, I like the full fat stuff! Guess I'll just have to pay more
-
I kind of agree with that last bit.

I can't open the link at the moment, will look later. At this stage (I think) it's only fizzy drinks etc. I suspect those that like them will continue to buy them (raising cost didn't really work with cigarettes and as a smoker it didn't deter me, though to be fair nicotine is an addictive substance) Manufacturers may get…

When you stick your tongue out as you run along?

I'm similar. I'm 62,128lbs and 5'3. Mfp set my maintenance at around 1500 but it's closer to 2200. Having said that, I don't know if I might be more active than I think I am - since I started eating back my fitbit calories I've had more success - and whether I'm possibly overestimating my calories as I've stopped weighing…
-
Ah! Sorry, late to the thread :)
-
I don't feel guilty about eating. I do dislike food waste and that makes me feel guilty.
-
The op said to mix protein powder? Sounds good

I can vouch for this, it's brilliant, my physio got me doing this too. She also got me doing box squats to work on form. (I had injured myself by going too quickly with Strong lifts and basically had to start again from scratch)

Ah, OK, I get that. Maybe there should be an awesome AND hug. And ditch the woo!
-
(by the way, I hugged you in case it was true)
-
Are you likely to post that on here, though?
-
Or at least stop calling it a hug. I'm choosy about who I hug
