Eat foods that you enjoy and keep you satisfied within your calorie budget. Avoid foods that cause self control issues or that don't taste good. For most of us, it is primarily protein and fiber that best keep us satisfied. For some it's fats. For me, fats just don't give enough volume. For some, carbs trigger their…

I typically don't eat out often but only because I can eat better for the same calories at home. It is very easy to find the nutritional info for most restaurants.

In this case, the treadmill and for those not familiar with it, that one does ask for your weight.

That is awesome! I know it seems a daunting task at first but you have already tackled the hardest part which is simply making the decision to get it done and your amazing success so far proves that you can absolutely do this. Just keep on keeping on one day at a time and before you know it the days and pounds will add up…

...and no left middle finger and a messed up index finger. I am lucky though as it could have easily been much worse. ETA: The thumb is still there. Only the middle and index fingers were injured but I didn't have use of that hand for a while and even though it is basically a non issue now, it was interesting at first…

The body retains water because it needs it for a variety of reasons, one of which is muscle repair necessary after working out. It will contribute to normal fluctuations in weight but it won't prevent the scale from trending downward.

Weight loss is entirely about energy balance and calories are a measure of energy. If you eat fewer calories than you burn, your body will use up it's fat stores to make up the difference. It really is that simple. Getting adequate protein and fats are beneficial for other reasons but weight loss comes down to maintaining…

You certainly aren't alone. There are lots of us on the same journey and lots of good help on this sight. Also, weight loss is entirely about energy balance which means only 1 thing causes weight loss and that is a calorie deficit, period. Also, congratulations on your great progress so far. As far as getting a really flat…

Thanks to a table saw and a moment's inattention, I have a little insight here and B is pretty much a no brainer.

Even a blind squirrel finds a nut every once in a while. (Hog and acorn are acceptable substitutions) Now you are cooking with grease.

Sugarz but not the natural kind, the kind that grow naturally but then we remove it and put it in something else which makes it poison. It is true cause I herd it on the interwebz.

For me, it was all about learning to spend my calories wisely so that I still get good sized portions and meals that keep me satisfied. For example, I can fix a pound of asparagus, half a pound of mushrooms, and 1/2 a pound of chicken breast and have a big plate of food for about 350 calories. Other things like egg whites…

Exactly, the real secret to losing weight is that there is no secret. Eat fewer calories than you burn and your body will use up it's fat stores to make up the difference. It is that simple.

Not happening and you will do harm than good trying. If you really want a flat stomach, run a modest calorie deficit and do some strength training.
-
.......(Calories out) ............ (Calories in)....... Total calories burned - total calories eaten = deficit The deficit is what determines weight loss. If you started with a 500 calorie deficit and then burned an additional 300 exercise calories without eating them back, you actually have an 800 calorie deficit.

This is exactly why diets don't work. There is no reason you can't have a donut. The idea is to learn to eat in a way that you don't feel deprived and that you can sustain for the rest of your life. Part of that means fitting in things you enjoy. Personally, I eat more treats now than when I was obese. I also found more…

It just depends on whether you can keep it in check and if it is worth the calories to you. For me personally, it isn't. I switched to powdered peanut butter.

There is very good lesson here.

This ^ You don't need a kick start. What you need is accuracy and consistency in maintaining a calorie deficit. I haven't plateaued once in the process of losing over 150 pounds and all I have done is maintain a deficit. There is nothing to it but to do it.

I don't even remember the last time I baked chicken. I typically cook it in a covered sauteed pan. It comes out nice and juicy.

At 25, I lost weight and got myself in shape. This time, at 39, I needed to be about 10 pounds lighter to get to the same size waist. It shouldn't be a surprise that you don't have the same body composition that you had 26 years ago.
