  • When I was doing the power lifting thing and getting up there in the weights (for me....not really all that impressive numbers, but a lot for me) I was super focused and would concentrate on proper breathing between sets. I would also visualize all of the queues for the next set of whatever.... I played sports in high…
  • Yes, ma'am! That is how it was for me, too! When I was doing it. Going to take a year off of Squats and Deadlifts (and was so close to three plates on the squat and four plates on deads) to let my "sensitive" lower back heal. Anyway......you gotta let the body recover from that one set to kill the next one, too!
  • +1 on that (Brian Alsruhe). I have been preaching him for some time. I learned a ton from his "How to:" Series (a three-part series on Bench, on Squat, on Deadlifts). Golden stuff there.....plus, amazing human being. All around good dude! With a strong gym and a great following.
  • I will suggest this: knowing what you want in life is super important. However, what is - to me - even more important is to know what you do not want! It sounds like you have been very honest with yourself. That can be a huge issue. It is really challenging to look yourself in the mirror and identify all the areas where…
  • AMEN, brother! A big AMEN to that!
  • Mine, as well! And I have tried to use a belt....with both Squats and Dead Lifts! Just can not do it! But, I am "off" so that does not surprise me. :-)
  • I think - and this is my mindset - that you will need a belt when you start lifting consistently heavy. And, heavy will mean something different for all of us. So, when you are doing the 3-rep sets....or lower....you would likely want to be using a belt. The 5-rep sets, maybe. Possibly. But, everyone is different. And,…
  • Winston-Salem, NC (via Salem, VA). Since February, 2018!
  • Loosing weight is all about a caloric deficit. Keto is not a magic pill that allows us to eat like crazy. :-) Are you logging your caloric intake (or, maybe better stated, tracking)?
  • If you check the restaurant's web site it will likely have the nutritional value for each item. I would *NOT* guess.....but that is just me.
  • Been following the Keto Lifestyle for several months now and really enjoy it. I was able to avoid the Keto Flu at the beginning. Ask any questions that you might have. I will gladly try to answer. Glad to hear that there are several having success. There are also two groups....Low Carb is one and Keto is the other.
  • I would suggest that you set the goal that makes sense to you.....and that you accomplish this via min-goals. Additionally, constantly re-assess. If you get to your desired weight (135lbs) and feel awesome and amazing at that weight then cool! Simply follow your "okay, I reached my goal, now what?" goals (maintenance). If,…
  • Ultimately, the choice is yours. But, as others have suggested, the general suggestion - for men - is to cut down until you are about 10% - 12% body fat and then to bulk. You are roughly twice that suggested body fat. Because a bulk is associated with a caloric surplus you will, by definition, gain weight. And, some of…
  • Jim Stoppani has a lot of interesting programs.
  • Agreed. Everyone is different. Everyone responds to the same stimulus differently. I am 51 and I keep hearing from younger people, "Dude, you can't do that. You are way too old to be doing that!". Okay....but watch me...and see these results? What do you say about that?". I think, though, that people need to play with…
  • Ya think? LOL! He maybe - and forgive the cliche cliche - has forgotten more about this stuff that most of us know! He knows from the weight room and from the class room! Not a bad combination.
  • I was going to chime in....but agree with what has already been stated (start with the week-side)....there, chimed in anyway!
  • I agree with everyone here. With respect to losing weight, it is all about a caloric deficit. The macros are indeed important, but it is the caloric intake (vs. your maintenance) that determines deficit or surplus. The macros, as people have stated, help your body do things. Protein, I think that most would agree, is the…
  • Not to be morbid....because that has absolutely nothing to do with what I am saying here....but consider this: tomorrow is NOT promised to anyone! What if you put off telling someone how much you love them today...and you think to yourself "I will tell her tomorrow". So, I really like your "Just for today"! That is all…
  • We are all adults and it is in no way "tmi"! The actual question is "Dude, how about them bowel movements?"! Let's just call a spade a spade! :-) The underlying issue is, naturally (see how I did that?) fiber consumption. Or, in the case of a lot of Keto folks, lack there of. Which, clearly, will lead to bowel movement…
  • I used to eat five or six meals. Then went Keto and ate four meals. Mostly because of IF. But eat as many times as you choose....just ensure that (1) you stay within your caloric boundary and (2) you hit your macros (+/- 10%). Are you bulking? That can actually be rough at first. Kinda like increasing your water intake.…
  • Bravo! Very nice!!!!
  • The other location - the 9465 Wilshire location - was in the Bank of America building. We had the 5th and 6th floors (entirely) and 2nd and 9th (partially). There was that kick *kitten* French Bistro off to the right....between the entrance to that building and the parking lot. Loved that bistro. I have not had contact…
  • Dang it! Awesome Sauce is what I was going to put! Well, you ready for it a second time? AWESOME SAUCE!
  • Exactly. For me, age is nothing more than a number. I am 12 in my head! That was when I was innocent and pure! HA! Anyone buying that? I have some swamp land in Arizona for you, too! Well, much respect to you for your current progress! The fun is just about to start. Once the newbie gains end (anywhere between three and…
  • Everyone is different. Everyone responds differently. It sounds like you have done an amazing job up to this point. I weighed 251lbs and in one year got down to 192lbs. Now, I am male and stand 6'0" so it is "easier" (ha! Come talk to me about 'easier'!) for men than for women. Not so sure that I buy into that. I might…
  • Each journey starts with the first step! I know....so very obvious. But it is too easy - especially in today's world - to make excuses and for everyone around you to buy into those excuses. Okay...so, you have taken that HUGE first step. Awesome. Now, what is your second step? We are all here for you. Ask if you have…
  • Yes, it sounds like you took a diet break and a workout break! :-) Now, you are back! We all do that (well, not all of us!). For me, been there and done that! Welcome back!
  • Misery loves company! HA! I follow the Ketogenic Lifestyle because of high A1C and insulin resistance. I have always been pretty athletic (except for about five years of my life...I am 51) and trying to get to the next level (which is not necessarily so easy). I also tend to keep a positive attitude. If I can help....will…
  • Well, may I ask you just how old you are, then? I am 51....your turn! :-)
