  • Revamped my footwear, supportive sandals. Orthotics in my runners, compression sock all day bar sleeping for 6 months. Now I can run without orthotics, but I do notice that my foot has some residual tightness and stretching still helps heaps.
  • If you've never used a gym before- try find a personal trainer who does home visits. That way they can set a program for you with the available equipment and show you how to use it properly.
  • Where I live I can get them done at an x-ray/radiology place. While it is done on a dexa machine its called something else (fitscan) because a dexa scan requires a Dr referral here. I get a report with some interpretation but no consultation about what the results mean/action to take.
  • I technically reversed gall stones. I had quite a few gallstones when I had an ultrasound by the time I had surgery there were none as they had all passed through by then. But in process of passing them I had one stuck for 5 days which was not much fun. For me gallstones were bought on by pregnancy hormones and are…
  • I had a similar issue. I would weight myself and then weigh myself and be a few 100g dif. The other day it was 1.5kg dif and I’d only recently changed battery. I got something very similar to nowineforme and am impressed so far.
  • I am losing weight without counting calories. I am on a meal plan that dictates serving size of food. 170g of chicken is a serve of protein, cup of veggies, slices of. Bread (though we did get a lecture on making sure we cut the bread thin enough to get the given number of servingsetc. I don’t actually weigh mine though, I…
  • Aim for athlete level of body fat? An athlete's full time job is training for whatever they compete in, many will train 4-6 hours a day. I always thought the fitness category was for amateur athletes and models. Average was what most people should fall into. I've seen lots of commentary on the fact that BF% doesnt have and…
  • Assuming you are using at home scales for the BF%, your hydration affects the numbers. They are helpful if you track a trend over a period but can go up and down day to day. Eg high sodium meal, hard workout. Looking at the 2 months of data, is there a gradual decrease in the % once you smooth out the bumps? My BF% would…
  • Maybe the formula accounts for estimated water retention, eg a light exerciser prob wont be carrying extra water for muscle repair with a moderate exerciser might carry some day to day.
  • I have 3 kids, 11, 9 & 7. I work full time, my kids all have afterschool activities and my husband often works long hours. We've struggled over the years to try fit both of our fitness goals in at the same time. It is easier now that they are older. Yesterday I spent 3 hours cooking lunches and dinners so I'll probably…
  • Can’t say I was overly impressed with the orientation. Customised meal plans turn out to be a a4 laminated peice of paper that 75% of people got. The very heavy or already in the healthy bmi range had slight differences. Thankfully they also gave a link to a receipt book. The rest of the orientation was mostly about how to…
  • Not sure if it’s the same thing but I starting one next week too. Weigh in and orientation on Sunday.
  • What's you weight actually doing?
  • My mind boggles at being paid to donate plasma. Anyway I see its a pretty common question. Protein absorption might be the issue as it seems that protein is absorbed in a matter of hours depending on the source. The only other thing that comes to mind is if you have increased/implemented strenuous exercise.
  • While you've spread the plan out to increase mileage slower you are still running 5 days a week. Most of the plans I have seen only have 3 running sessions a week, this allows a rest day either side of the long run. The day after a long run a walk or other non-running light activity might be a good idea but a fast run of…
  • In the last 7 months you’ve lost 4% body fat and in the next 6 months you want to lose an additional 9% body fat. I think you may need to re-evaluate your goal time frame.
  • @karirenae I was on Phentermine 30mg for 2 months and am now on Phentermine 40mg for the past 2 weeks, my Levothyroxine is 100mg. For me Phentermine has had a minimal change on my appetite but the energy boost has meant that I am able to avoid the 3pm sugar hit for that quick pick me up. It has also made me caffeine…
  • FFIW my bioimpendance are pretty consistent. There are times when they fluctuate but in line with my weight i.e. when I am retaining water. After a while you may see a pattern eg. my BF% will actually go up a 0.5-1% over a week or so and then I'll get a sudden drop in both BF% and scale weight. Mine doesn't do bone or…
  • This is me, always had low blood pressure. My low resting heart rate was what triggered a thyroid test and now I take medication for it. The other contributing factor is that I grew up in a salt is not good for you environment. Salt was never added to anything, and low salt options always chosen in processed foods. When we…
  • I prefer circuit strength training as well so I can get through my workout faster. My husband is the opposite and takes an hour to do his routine and I probably take about 30-40mins for the equivalent routine.
  • A nice treat for me is to actually get to sit down and watch something on tv/netflix. I have 3 kids and work fulltime so I dont get a lot of time and also need to be mindful of what I am watching if the kids are around. Another non-food treat I like is a foot soak or a face mask.
  • Great job that's a solid pace. I was reading this thread last week stressing out cause I had a 13km race on Sunday. I normally only run 5-6kms. I did a 8km on Mothers Day (Australia) and the last bit was downhill and I was keeping good pace until I started leaking, I had to slow down considerably to stop it. I didnt even…
  • There's a very subtle difference in hand placement between these 2 photos. I only notice it because I had a friend who used to use the same pose for photos. When we were doing a photography course the photographer got her to change it so her hands were on her hips rather than her waist. He demonstrated with before and…
  • Form makes a huge difference, my sister was telling me how easy the squat challenge she was doing was. She didnt think it so easy after I showed her how to squat properly.
  • If you've been losing weight even if its really slow over the last 3 months then your not maintaining. It sounds like your over 'dieting'. What about working out the maintenance calories for your goal weight and eating whatever you like within that calorie goal. That would get you used to what you are able to eat going…
  • That is really individual and a lot is up to your budget and time. If you need training on form etc you probably want more regular sessions or if you have a specific event/goals you are training for. If you just need a personalised program you might only meet up once every 6 weeks. Some people need someone to push them…
  • I did an online program called 12WBT by Michelle Bridges (Australian). It had a food and exercise plan. I've been to the gym/boot camps/personal training etc over the years. Exercise plans had various options for fitness level as well as location. I chose at home so it had some weights/equipment but nothing extravagant. It…
  • I think there's positives and negatives for both approaches. 1) Lose fast= steep deficit. You'll see the scale move faster however you may lose more muscle than desirable meaning your body composition in the end isnt quite where you want it to be. Extreme deficit can lead some to bingeing. Bigger adjustment in calories…
  • I weigh pretty much every day but have only been logging if weight is lower. I know from history Friday is typically my lowest weight for the week because during the week we have lower sodium food and I also run Wed n Sat and deliver catalogues Tues- Thurs depending. So Friday I am also not retaining water from exercise.…
  • Have you seen the explaination about weight loss being like a roll of paper towel. If each sheet is a pd 1 off doesn’t make a big difference at the beginning, but after you’ve lost several sheets each sheet that comes off makes a bigger difference on how big the remaining paper towel looks. I know that first 10kgs that…
