  • My Nokia HR counts steps during my swimming too! I get a random buzz on my wrist that I reached my step goal mid-way through my swim... it doesn't give me step credits for other things I do though - walking while carrying toddler, pushing the stroller, pushing a shopping cart, pulling the radio flyer wagon. So for me it…
  • I'm afraid to change too, part of the journey to become healthy is making big changes, and we have no idea what our life could be like if we succeed. No matter what our story is. I'm 230lbs, never had an issue with UNDEReating, only over-eating. I can lose weight very rapidly on 1600 cals. I don't exercise like crazy - 30…
  • My son is 22 months and we just weaned, bravo on nursing TWO for 24 months! It takes a lot out of you, emotionally and physically. AND the lack of sleep, I could not function when my son slept that way! I know that when I was nursing round the clock and sleeping poorly, my eating habits were horrendous. I stopped nursing…
  • Well a big bag of maltesers would be about 650 calories, and I'd probably feel sick for a while after, then STARVING by the end of the day and a normal dinner would put me over my calories. But I do successfully lose weight while nibbling cheesecake, pizza, chocolate and McDonald's. Just not huge portions, and not every…
  • My hubby went from 330 to 195 (and now back to 250 since we had kids) so I know you can do it too! Good luck!
  • Ah, lucky! I couldn't lose a thing while nursing on demand, but I was so freaking hungry all the time! Your calorie goal is high enough to get the required nutrition for you both, and as long as baby seems fine, keep it up! Are you taking a prenatal vitamin still? They say to keep it up while pregnant and nursing. I still…
  • When I worked in fast food, the carbonated water part of the soda machine wasn't working, and I accidentally chugged straight coke syrup, so that put me off coke for a LONG time! When I 'found' diet coke, I realised it is much lighter and fresher IMO, and normal coke still tastes 'too syrupy' for my traumatised brain lol.…
  • I'm not an office worker, but when my steps are low for the day, I have a literal stepper in my living room, a basic 6" platform, that I step on and off for 30 mins, which gives me 2-3000 steps depending on how fast I go (I do stepping-sprints during commercials). It gets my heart rate up a little without getting all…
  • How is your poop game? I know when I have eaten too much, esp. of certain foods, it backs me up and I feel uncomfortably 'full' sooner until my system is back to normal. I used to eat past that full feeling, but now I am starting to recognise it and stop. I also know from experience that you can be backed up even if you…
  • I am a SAHM too and it's tough, I had to stop snacking when my son snacked, and stop buying the snacks like goldfish or alphabet cookies that I would just devour while Artie snacked lol. I buy fresh, frozen and canned veggies, so we ALWAYS have veggies with every meal, no excuses. Spinach with eggs, salad with lunch,…
  • You know, I feel like this has SOME merit. An in-law of mine has type II diabetes, and his sugars have been in the 260's for weeks at a time. Every day. Then, when my husband started making his meals low-carb for him, his sugars were in the 130's (so took less insulin), but he complained of fatigue, dizziness, etc. And my…
  • I try to have a happy-thought that I can think about. Sometimes if my mind wanders randomly, anxiety kicks in and I remember that horrible/embarrassing thing I did 10 years ago and I inwardly cringe and then I'm wide awake again. So I have to focus on one happy thing. Right now it's how amazing our powder room/mud room…
  • I bought an XL Julia dress that I'm so close to feeling comfy in! A little less love handle and arm chub - so maybe 10lbs (I tend to lose pretty evenly all over) to go! It's lovely spring/summer colours so I know it'll be worth the wait!
  • I usually get lunch or dinner before going to the movies, so my tummy feels full, and then get the LARGEST diet soda I can lol so I have something to 'do' with my hands. I don't mind the popcorn, popcorn is a whole grain! I just loooove mixing m&m's in with the popcorn so it's sweet and salty and a million calories. So I…
  • I weigh every day on my Wii Fit, and only log new lows into MFP. I agree that you see daily numbers as more of a 'data point', which removes the stress/mind-games from it. For me, anyway. For some it could cause over-restriction to try to force the scale down-down-down every day, but I know that's impossible. It also helps…
  • I have a Wii Fit stepper, and I have it on a 4-inch riser so it's about a 6 inch step, and I put it on Free Step and watch TV for 30 mins while stepping, and that does 3200 steps right there :) it also works up a sweat if I hurry, unlike normal pacing around my house, so it feels more like exercise. You can get any…
  • 12k steps yesterday! I had convinced myself I was lazy and inactive because I 'don't work' as a SAHM, so I got a fitness tracker to work up to 10k steps. Well, I haven't been under 10k steps since I got the thing! So my new goal was to work my way up to 12k a day, and yesterday I plopped into bed and checked, and I had…
  • I had 2600 calories the day before last, and that was trying to be "picky" at the buffet. I was up 1lb the day after, and another 0.2lbs today (i weigh daily because the fluctuations don't freak me out). Frankly if I have a big poo today and drink plenty of water, I will likely be back to normal by tomorrow. It's not…
  • I'm glad I'm not the only cheapskate on the boards! I have the i5 Plus which is $15 on Amazon and it tracks my sleep, steps, has a sedentary alarm, and other alarm functions. It has text/call alerts so if I leave my phone in my bedroom or it's deep in the bottom of my bag, my watch tells me who is calling or texting me. I…
  • Yep, MFP gives me 1,700 exercise cals a day, which I *know* is not accurate, so I definitely don't eat them back. I attempt to eat around 1500 a day, give or take 200 a day if I feel extra hungry from exercise, or a bad night's sleep, or if dinner is just too delicious to stop eating lol.
  • The difference is, eating your 'goal calories' is required to lose the 1lb, or 2lbs a week that you have selected to lose. When you set up MFP, your goal calories have that deficit built in. Green calories mean yay, keep eating, great job! Eating UNDER your goal calories is then doubling that deficit, which is not…
  • For me, when I hike/take long walks, I usually have my phone with me (mostly for pics of the view but I have tracking apps) so I didn't look for GPS tracking, and I'm not too fussed about knowing my heart rate, so I went with a $15 fitbit knockoff from Amazon (I call it a FatBit) lol. It's called the i5 Plus. I felt good…
  • I'm going to England to visit my family for 3 weeks and I am worried that my mum will 'gently push' fast food on us every night while we are there, thinking it's a nice treat for us! It's going to be hard being a guest in someone's home and still trying to have control over my food choices. I had it in my mind that she…
  • Just found this thread, I'm in! Yesterday I got 11k steps! For the people who do 15k a day, HOW do you do it! I feel like I'm on the go all day just to get 10k! Do you just get used to 10, then slowly add more?
  • My fitness tracker does the same. I set my activity level to Active, but that didn't help, so I might set it to Highly Active. I do 10k steps a day and it gives me 1,600 - 1,700 exercise calories, which is crazy high, as 10k steps seems to be the minimum goal for a lot of people!
  • If I eat tortilla chips before bed, I guarantee I'll be up 1lb in water weight the next day, UNLESS I drink a crapton of water before bed too (and get up twice to pee lol). That's just my experience though.
  • I don't have to adhere to a specific diet, or cut foods out of my diet, and can lose weight eating "whatever" as long as it fits my calories. The MINDSET of eating less + moving more is still a giant hurdle for me though. I lose 10lbs, or 20lbs, then I feel great and forget about logging and gain it all back. Plus 5-10…
  • I would say when your LO is older and you're out of the 'survival mode' stage (varies, depending on when they start STTN), you can trade off daycare drop-off duty, so you can exercise in the morning while she does drop-off, then she can sleep or do whatever on the other day that you do the drop-off (if you're lifting, you…
  • breathe. I had to figure out how to breathe to make it more comfortable. I have to take in a lot of air and do big deep breaths every now and then in the beginning, almost like a sigh or a yawn, in between my regular breathing. And then I have to breathe in for a few steps and breathe out for a few, like a pattern. Once I…
