Hi everyone I know this may be a stupid question but yesterday I went on a bit of a binge after a couple of beers leaving my day total of calories art around 2400 , my question is if my week summary says I'm still 4500 calories deficient for this week is my binge going to destroy my weight loss this week ?
You guys are welcome to go check out my diary as I could use some help
Thank you in advance x

It won't destroy the week, and mistakes happen. Just keep going.2

Weight loss isn't linear. So even if you do everything right on paper you will have some up days and some down. Consistency over time is what will give you results. So no one high calorie day won't ruin your week especially if your week your net calories were still in a deficit. It really is hard to predict the effects from person to person. Set your long term goals and don't sweat the days you have fun. But obviously the more consistent you are over a long period the better results you will see.4

If energy-out is greater than energy-in between one weigh-in and another, you should lose fat (well, some combination of fat and lean mass, but hopefully more of the former if you're eating at an appropriate deficit). If you eat at a surplus a day or two before your weigh-in, you might top off glycogen reserves, which will store extra water; you might get more sodium during your "binge" and retain extra water; you might have more food, which has weight, passing through your intestines. If you're stressing over your binge, stress hormones All those things might make the scale read higher at the second weigh-in, but hopefully you're here to lose fat, not water and the weight of digesting food.5

If you logged everything correctly, and your exercise calories aren't overestimated (or underestimated, or not accounted for at all), and you are approximately at the median metabolic rate for your weight and height, then you are on track to lose a bit over a pound of weight for the week.
That's a lot of if's, I realize. But your deficit is pretty significant, too.
Also, 2 beers is NOT A BINGE.6 -

Your diary isn't visible.1 -
It will make your loss less than it would've been, but it won't destroy your loss.1

I believe she is saying she had two beers and then ate more for than she intended, not that she went on a two beer bender.TavistockToad wrote: »are you at a deficit of 4500 cals, or are you 4500 under your weekly goal?
She is still at a 4500 calorie deficit for the entire week.1 -
I definitely do not consider 2 beers any sort of bender in fact it's pretty standard for me. And the only reason I referred to it as a binge because the food was all eaten in the space of like 10 mins and was much more then the normal person would eat in one sitting and it was alone in my bed in the dark. I'm not a fan of making light of disorders of any kind
To make it clearer, under nutrients in calories my net says if my week runs from last Friday to this Friday at the end of today I will be 3300 calories below my goal
I always tend to over estimate calories and underestimate excercise and i dont eat back excercise calories at all if I can help it4 -

Is your goal set up in MFP to lose weight? What rate of loss did you select? Are you losing at that rate, or more?
If you are set up to lose, then You should actually be aiming to hit that goal, not be under it. It has your deficit already built in.
To answer your original question yes you will probably still lose this week because even though you were over your goal for one day, you are still in a deficit for the week. Many of us do this intentionally, bank calories some days for more indulgent splurges on others. The weekly deficit is what matters, but again, your goal has that deficit built in.2 -
1) 2400 calories is not a binge.
2) If you are in a deficit overall for the week, you will still lose weight
But do expect the scales to fluctuate upwards tomorrow.6 -

Concur with others that (1) if you're in a deficit for the week, you'll still lose, and (2) you should just get back on your healthy track, not try to compensate for the binge (as if this were some kind of sin and retribution cycle - yikes, but some people do that).
Also, as a concerned li'l ol' lady granny-type person, I want to add this:
I feel some concern that your regular calorie deficit - eating level plus not usually eating back exercise - may be too severe . . . a couple of beers then eating "much more than the normal person would eat in one sitting and it was all alone in my bed in the dark": That's not a good sign, and doubly so if that's a new thing for you to be doing.
If your profile is correct, you're fairly young, have perhaps 15kg (30-some pounds) left to lose . . . half a kg (a pound) a week would be a healthy and sustainable weight loss rate under those circumstances. Losing at a sustainable rate not only helps one stay the course, it also results in a better appearance along the way (healthy complexion, vivacious behavior, glossy hair, good nails, favorable response to exercise, etc.)
I just want to see you stay strong and healthy while accomplishing your weight loss goals!1 -
are you at a deficit of 4500 cals, or are you 4500 under your weekly goal
What is the difference between these 2?0 -

Daily vs weekly, is what I think they were asking.0 -
No - there is no biological mechanism that tracks your intake over a 24 hour period...or any period. For the terms of weigh management meal timing is a moot point.
The issue of meal timing is important when it comes to satiety, which is a much more personal matter. There is no evidence to suggest this impacts metabolism by any measure of significance.
The key point of this is awareness - so well done!0 -
The difference is, eating your 'goal calories' is required to lose the 1lb, or 2lbs a week that you have selected to lose. When you set up MFP, your goal calories have that deficit built in. Green calories mean yay, keep eating, great job!
Eating UNDER your goal calories is then doubling that deficit, which is not recommended. Too high of a deficit can be physically damaging, AND emotionally it can make you feel deprived, fatigued, and make you reach your breaking point. When you reach that breaking point you could say 'screw it' and quit and gain the weight back. It's a lot of pressure to put on yourself - so a lot of people recommend sticking to the goal calories that are set out by MFP. A small deficit + time will yield the same results or MORE than a large deficit + trying to lose all your weight in 5 weeks.
And OP, I ate 2600 cals yesterday, still hoping to lose weight by Monday. Don't sweat one day, just drink extra water, have a light breakfast if you're still uncomfortably full (I could only stomach coffee this morning), and keep going at a slow and steady pace!0 -

Sorry, I'm not getting it! Aren't they both the same.... deficit/ under?

MFP gives you a calorie goal which includes a deficit. So 4600 under weekly goal is massively under eating.
Or if you're using tdee method then you would just be aiming to have a deficit of 3500 (to lose a pound per week) so a deficit of 4600 for a week is acceptable.1 -
If your daily deficit was 4500 under your maintenance calories you would most likely be dead in a week if your weekly deficit is 4500 under your weekly maintenance calories you would most likely lose a pound or so.0

Wanted to say lightbulb moment! Thanks for that.

But i really appreciate everyone's input and advice
