  • I have this same question! I want to put on some muscle and change my body composition, but I have a hint of fat on my sides that I don't know how to get rid of. I don't want to be any lighter. I would just hate to cut and lose progress from muscle gain :/
  • Darn I was hoping you guys wouldn't say that.... haha. I'm not worried about gaining weight, I am more worried about losing muscle mass :/
  • No it's like a day of abs, a day of more hiit/tabata style, a day of hamstrings/glutes, quads, etc. Not like I'm deadlifting 5 days in a row or anything. Also the lack of progressive overload in the beginning was my choice to get my body ready for lifting heavier. Now that I'm a few weeks in, I'm starting to add more…
  • I'm doing a program I really enjoy. It's set up for 6 days a week (sometimes I just do 5) 80% lower body with one upper body day. Lots of squats/deadlifts/hiit on bike or stair master/tabata squat workouts/super sets etc. It's definitely the hardest I've worked! I'm always sore and now trying to lift heavier. At first I…
  • I meant instead of drinking alcohol. Wouldn't the large meal have to metabolize first as well, so you wouldn't be burning body fat eating a large meal before dinner OR drinking wine?
  • Okay. And what would happen if you went to sleep with a big meal in your stomach then? Would it have the same effect?
  • Question - so if you were to drink wine on an empty stomach/a few hours after dinner or something where wine is the only thing your body has to metabolize (its not being prioritized over anything else) would that make it less of an inhibitor in your opinion?
  • Quoting myself here - just wanted to mention I'm not recommending jumping to this many calories immediately. Definitely at a slow rate add in more calories every few weeks. But a healthy amount of food to eat is above 1200 calories/day ESPECIALLY if working out.
  • I eat that many calories in 1 meal lol
  • WAY too little! You should take that calorie day and multiply it by 3 times if you're working out.
  • Thanks for the input guys! I'm hoping you're right. Boobs are the only time I'd rather have a C than a B! Haha
  • That's what I'm hoping! But I feel if I am able to get rid of some of the minimal fat I do have on my stomach and legs, why wouldn't it also decrease fat in boobs?
  • And ruining your metabolism...
  • 900 calories per day?! Girl that is not healthy.
  • Agreed with the others. As long as you actually do get back on the wagon when you say you will.. it's not quitting! Maybe since you're okay with breaking the routine right now, you'll be able to get it all out of your system and feel ready to get back at it.
  • Personally, I eat around 1600 calories a day when I was not working out. I think I eat around 1800 working out 3-5x a week only lifting weights. So far so good for me, I'm feeling great! Also I'm 5'3
  • I usually eat half a protein bar with my preworkout about 15-20 mins before I go to the gym. I'm usually not hungry at the time, but sometimes the hunger hits while I'm working out and it makes me so uncomfortable!
  • Early morning workouts are new for me! I found I never had the energy after a full day of work and had a hard time sticking to actually going. I'm on about week 3 of being up by 5 to gym from 6-7 before I head to work in the mornings. So far (and I can't believe I'd ever say this) I'm really enjoying it! I'm shooting for…
  • Just as an extra note - I would keep in mind that the more you walk, the more efficient your body gets at it (or any exercise) meaning you'd burn less calories for the same distance over a period of time. So just make sure you're mixing it up a bit or adding hills, etc! :)
  • Yes Fitbit calculates your TDEE. So even if you walk 0 steps, it assumes you burned 1400 (or whatever) it takes for your body to just survive (assumed) based on the height, weight, etc. that you entered. So any walking/flights of stairs you do will just be adding calories burned EXTRA on top of what your body burns to live…
  • I don't know of a specific channel, but you could try looking up HIIT or Tabata workouts - those are great cardio and kick my butt.
  • I just got a pair of leggings from Gymshark. They're around $40-50. But they are high waisted and great quality. Very thick, have pockets, and because of the high waist, they suck in any tummy rolls, and make your bum look more shapely. Also black/very dark colors recommended for hiding flaws.
  • No, I agree, that's why I just try to use it as a guide! My heart really gets pounding when I'm doing supersets. I use my heart rate monitor for actually checking my heart rate (you know, making sure I'm working hard!) I don't care much about the calorie burn, so that's why I'm not too set on the exact number for it.
  • I'm trying to work on some booty/leg gains as well! Although I just started following a 'booty bootcamp' workout guide. Right now I can barely walk because I am so sore :s I'm all for the booooty gains!
  • In my personal opinion.. I would think it too high. Just based on the fact that on average, you burn about 100 calories per mile (rough estimate, obviously it can range from 70-150+ depending on body type) I have a chest strap heart rate monitor, and it will take me about 1hr 20mins of heavy weight lifting to reach that…
  • Wow I had no idea leg extensions were so bad! I don't do them often, but will when I want to target my quads especially. Are there other good quad-targeted exercises I could replace them with? My gym doesn't have a great set up for what he recommended in his video. Also I've never done a good morning - I should add that! I…
  • I think it just takes time! I'm sorry to hear you're struggling right now. Maybe try developing some mantras for yourself, positive notes, etc. There are many ways you can work on self confidence on your own (try googling some and see what appeals to you!) And of course there are counselors you can speak to. I've done that…
  • 1. Happy birthday! Turning 21 is so fun. 2. OMG TOTALLY GO BANANAS (safely) FOR YOUR 21st. You only get to turn 21 once, and the fun of drinking and partying with your friends will only decrease with each year (from what I've experienced). A year or two from now you won't look back on your birthday and think 'man if only I…
  • Yes I think I will be trying the mixed grip next! -- I believe it might be a matter of grip strength & grip style. I'm not sure, I'll have to do trial and error to figure it out. __ I just used the squat rack because I go to a small gym that doesn't have large open areas for deadlifting.
  • Thank you for this article! I just read the portion on deadlifts and learned about 4 parts that I could improve on... Also I think those of you who mentioned grip strength are definitely correct. That, and it appears I've been gripping it wrong anyway  lol. Wonderful advice from everyone - thank you so much! I'm…
