  • Each to their own but I find this post sad because I find that a diet that is not enjoyable is not sustainable. A diet that is not sustainable will result in a regain of weight as I will find it all too hard and will merely go back to what I was eating and enjoying. In saying that I am very much a moderator rather than an…
  • This actually isn't how it works. If you put yourself as very active because you get 15,000 steps a day MFP will calculate that every single hour you will do 625 steps, including when you are asleep. If you get less than this your adjustment will decrease your calories, if you do more it will increase them. How active you…
  • I have my activity level set at the lowest, despite the fact that I rarely do less than 15,000 steps a day. I do this because I prefer to have calories added, without losing so many in the last few hours of the day. Others prefer to have their activity level set closer to what they actually do. You just have to do what…
  • I know many within the medical profession that also smoke. Does that mean they have no idea that smoking is bad for them? Hell no! They know what they should be doing for optimum health and what they are doing are two entirely different things. The fact that they smoke does not subtract from their vast knowledge of how the…
  • I have seen this touted in regards to steps and activity levels. Sedentary = less than 5000 Low activity = 5000-7499 Somewhat active = 7500-9999 Active = more than 10000 Highly active = more than 12500 Hope that helps you out a bit.
  • I agree that the ease of obtaining fast food is one contributing factor to the rise in obesity levels. There are not many that would argue against this. However, I believe it is naive at best to say this is the only reason. So many things have changed since the '70s and the obesity epidemic is much more complicated than…
  • I struggle with the accuracy of this as well. If I am reading it correctly it is really saying that the average female with a BMI of 20 has a body fat percentage of close to 30% with variations between 20% and 40%. That just does not seem correct.
  • Unless you have a medical condition which limits fruit and you stay within your calorie allowance you can eat your fruit and enjoy every single mouthful. It will not impede on your weight loss or health in any way.
  • As an Aussie, I go with kj. I find it easier as that unit of energy will be found on all food labels here.
  • This is my new weight range according to this. Your new BMI healthy range is 38.57 to 52.11 kgs. There is no way I would consider myself healthy at under 40 kgs! I feel more comfortable with the current range between 41.5 and 55 kg, especially as I stop my periods under 42 kg.
  • Are you using Pacer? I found when using that it didn't make the calorie adjustments that a Fitbit does. Regardless of the activity setting, I got the same number of exercise calories. I set my activity level to the lowest and ate back all that Pacer gave me. That seemed to work fine with regards to expected my rate of loss…
  • I am just wondering where you are in your cycle. I find that the day before my period is due I am much hungrier than usual. If this is the case for you there is no harm in eating at maintenance for a day or two before your period.
  • I think it is really hard for a person to accept that they are obese and they cling onto anything they can to try and justify being an unhealthy weight. I am included in this they. I tried to kid myself for years that I simply had a large frame which meant I could still be healthy carrying around that extra weight. Once I…
  • What is your weekly average rate of loss like? If you are losing at the desired amount or quicker than the desired amount while forcing yourself to eat (often around 1 pound a week but maybe a little more or a little less, depending on how much you lose) then you need to eat enough so that you don't lose too quickly.…
  • No day is a fail. Learn from your experience and move on. Many actually recommend starting your weight loss with a week of eating as you always have but weighing and logging everything. This way you have an honest record of what you are eating and when. From here it is easier to see where you can cut back on calories by…
  • When water is a precious comodity I try to limit them to around 2 minutes unless I have to wash my hair, which I only do a couple of times a week. Hubby will even turn the water off while soaping and shampooing (he is almost bald so doesn't take long) to save even more water.
  • Coming from the driest state, in the driest inhabited continent, I just see this as torture and a huge waste of water.
  • The weather has warmed up? I am jealous. It is cold, wet and windy in SA at the moment. Just when you think spring has sprung, it becomes cold again! I do find that my appetite decreases during the warmer months and I become more active.
  • Am I getting it right that you have lost 85 pounds in only 4 months? That is a little over 20 pounds a month, or around 5 pounds a week. That is way too much and you need to slow down for the sake of your health. The amount of muscle you are losing with that fat would be considerable. Remember with this that your heart and…
  • I love this analogy! So true in so many ways.
  • Regardless you will need outside help when your Dad goes. You can not fix this on your own. It is much better to get help now and then you have your Dad to support you through the process. Not only that but the longer you leave it, the more damage you are doing to your body.
  • Before perimenopause set in mine were anywhere between 3 and 4 weeks but would last on average around 10 days. It seemed I was almost bleeding as much as I wasn't until I got a Mirena inserted. This is in contrast to when I was a teen/young adult where not only were they 4 weeks exactly, they nearly always came at about…
  • I would love a nice burger from Grill'd about now. Grill'd could be an Aussie thing only though!
  • That and the information nutritionists have can be sketchy and ill-informed. Anyone can call themselves a nutritionist with only a quick online course under their belt. If you actually want informed information you need to see a registered dietitian. These guys have a uni degree under their belt and continue with further…
  • Oh, how I miss that woo button. Please ignore this. This body type thing is nothing but pseudoscience which has well and truly been debunked. I will post this, only because I love the title! http://www.healthylivingheavylifting.com/why-body-types-are-*kitten*/
  • It would be nice if it were something like the DASH or Mediterranean diet but who am I kidding!
  • Made me think of this. Hilarious! Even she laughed about it. https://www.smh.com.au/national/womans-breast-implants-ruptured-in-kangaroo-attack-in-south-australia-20160531-gp8gx3.html
  • Go to setting and Change Units to change from kilojoules to calories.
  • I don't have premium either... Keep trying as it can be done.
