@CMorning99 for what it’s worth, my 2 cents based on the trial of the boys who killed the lady who raised me. The two who were older than 18 ended up getting life without parole, the 16 year old got life but with a possibility of parole. Nobody pleaded and we had to go through the whole appeals process which took years.…

My husband and I ran the virtual Inspiration4 Miler for St Jude today. Nice medal but we mostly ran it for the swag - he lives in NASA tshirts but doesn’t have a half zip like the race one. Plus there’s a hat! We tried to run it at race pace but found 4 miles is tricky - the first 5k would have been a really good 5k time…

According to my husband if you have a cellular capable Apple Watch with the account set up, you don’t need the phone with you for fall detection. I found it didn’t work well for my mother because she was constantly doing things to the watch which somehow messed up fall detection - failing to charge it (Apple Watch has…

What is wrong with pulses? They are a good low calorie source of protein and fiber. The way to reduce the rice and breads is to eat smaller portions of them. Cauliflower rice isn’t really a good substitute in Indian food. I’ve found that the big culprit as far as calories is usually the oil, butter, and ghee. Often you can…

First run of autumn! Autumn weather arrived exactly on the solstice, last night was actually cold and today the temperature topped out in the 70s, perfect running weather. My husband and I missed our last run because of thunderstorms, and then couldn’t make it up the next day because of needing to move a refrigerator…

FWIW my mom got her booster today. Her caretaker walked into CVS, said, “this lady is old and has a bunch of health problems,” and they said, “Show us her vax card,” and she handed them the card showing she got her second dose of Pfizer back in January, and they gave her the shot without further discussion. CVS’s website…

Guys, given the state of anti-vax misinformation in the US right now, I’m not sure those without internet don’t have an advantage when it comes to being informed about the vaccine.

Yes, today. It’s headlining my apple news feed right now, we made the national news. We do live in a rough area but frighteningly this was in the middle of Collierville, which is an upscale suburb full of polite, charming people. We usually shop there because it’s halfway between our place and my mom’s place in the…

Not sure what your definition of “healthy” is here. For me, eating healthy and indulging a sweet tooth are opposite goals - particularly if you want to eat sweet at every single meal. Large amounts of added sugars and refined starches aren’t healthy, and there’s only so much fruit you need in a day.

So yeah probably no one knows enough about where I live to be worried about me, but just in case - there was a mass shooting at my Kroger where I get groceries with at least 14 shot and 1 killed. We were out running at the time but on a different day my husband might have been in there so it’s scary. This is the store with…

I was just reading an article about running races you haven’t trained for, and they said to resist the impulse to try to get in one more last minute long run during the final week when you should be tapering, accept that your performance isn’t going to be optimal, and do the best you can. It sounds like you’re already…

An overload of antibodies against an illness isn’t really a thing. As long as the antibodies are targeting the virus, having a lot of them is what’s supposed to happen. Antibodies are specific and don’t attack anything except the thing they target. There can be a problem if antibodies mistakenly attack some other cells of…

My husband, who thinks differently than I do, said the obvious solution was, if you get Covid and are vaccinated, lie and say you are unvaccinated. That way you can get treatment. What is this world coming to.
-
Not delighted to read in the news today that my state, Tennessee, is rationing monoclonal antibodies. Specifically people who have been vaccinated can no longer receive them unless they are immunocompromised. So, if I get Covid, someone like me, a diabetic at high risk of hospitalization even with the vaccine, cannot…
-
I’m pretty sure this is just confusion on the part of someone who’s not a medical expert. There are different kinds of antibodies. Testing for antibodies against the coronavirus would, as you said, be pointless since they would be expected in someone who had received the vaccine. However, in someone having an autoimmune…

One study found that ACV slowed absorption of carbs, and since I am a type 2 diabetic I tried it, while monitoring my blood glucose after meals. I found no measurable effect.

Just out of curiosity, is replacing the heart valve not on the table? My dad had a bad valve due to typhoid fever while in Vietnam, and his valve was replaced, with the result that his heart was much better for about ten years. Also, how are you getting the micronutrients normally found in veg and fruit? Supplements?

In Memphis I know of two cyclists hit and killed by people making right turns in the past year. It’s a problem. One was at Shelby Farms in the marked bike lane. Here we are one of the most dangerous cities for pedestrian deaths. I don’t expect people to see me or avoid me, I leap out of the way when a car approaches. I…

Another little run in the rain - 4 miles, was planned to be a tempo run but slowed down after the first two. We saw a BOBCAT! And not on trails, it was in the middle of the bridge on Wolf River Boulevard! There is a crossing for pedestrians and cycles divided from the road by a cast iron fence, and as we approached the…

With sudden paralysis immediately following vaccination or infection, they should have tested for antigangliocide antibodies to rule out Guillain-Barre. Sounds like your friend was right to ask. It sounds like they eventually decided the subsequent course of the illness was unlike Guillain-Barre, however? The thing about…

How is your hip with the kickboxing?

People suspected - by doctors, not randos - of dying of the vaccine are not regular people and do get autopsies. The Johnson and Johnson vaccine was paused while deaths suspected to be from that vaccine were invested, it’s actually a big deal and not a casual thing.
-
So, in other words, you know zero people who have died from the vaccine. Glad you cleared that up.
-
I try to give people the benefit of the doubt, but in this case, what is claimed is not possible. This sort of deliberate misinformation is killing real people in the real world. Responsible social media forums are deleting it.

I can’t keep track of everyone I want to comment on, but just wanted to say how proud I am of everyone! @skippygirlsmom and @Teresa502 way to go with the acts of kindness! Everyone who raced, great racing! Congrats @quilteryoyo on your first Half! @Tramboman Pretty sure that is an immature cottonmouth, they are crazy…

Planned 5 miles on trails turned into 5k due to a dead fridge which had to be dealt with. Very nice run though, if humid. Almost stepped on this big bubba (snake warning!) He was stubborn too, would not move off the trail! He turns out to live in a hole at the base of a nearby tree. Finally he left and we went on. It’s…

If you can run 7 miles it’s likely you can run 15k - just take it slow and easy and don’t be afraid of walk breaks. Even well-trained runners expect to take walk breaks during longer races. The only real difference between 10k and 15k is fuel. For many people, that’s about when they start to need to take in some sort of…

If you look closely at the data from Israel their death rate right now compared to their infection rate is 1/4 ours. They are getting sick and their death rate is climbing, but it’s to be expected that more people will die when more people get sick. MOST are not dying, but every vaccine does have a failure rate. This sort…

The thing is, I don’t believe you, because so few people around the world have died following the vaccine that for a single person to know two of them is astronomically unlikely.
