As a former personal trainer turned physical therapist please see a physical therapist. Preferably a clinic that sees patients one on one and if you can find one, a therapist with advanced certifications like OCS or more than just a "PT" behind their name.

I'm a PT. I see about a 50-50 success rate for epidural lasting 3 weeks to a year. I also don't see a lot of people that I should see because they get the shot first and feel great. I'm a PT and exercise physiology. My warms ups and belt usage depends on the patient/client. If you don't know how to properly brace your core, the belt won't matter. I prefer belts only for heavy lifting 5 reps or less. Above that I strongly suggest not using a belt in order to focus on training proper bracing for lifts.…

Do not listen to your primary care doctor when it concerns exercise movements. Go see an ortho or better yet, see a PT. I'm a PT. Please go see a PT and make your life much easier.

Skip the medical doctor, go see a physical therapist. You definitely will waste less time and get a good answer by going to a PT asap. If you had questions on how to find a good one let me know. I'm a PT btw.

The disc itself or the gel within the disc itself may be pinching the nerve, but likely just the disc. The disc can and will move back toward where it should be with corrective exercises. From the sounds of it and with your current health you should have a pretty good prognosis with conservative measures. Good luck!

How many calories are you getting per day? In general, the way to pack in lbs if you are chronically skinny is go load up on liquid calories on top of what you eat. They are less satiating than solid foods. So protein drinks tend to be your best bet. Milk if you haven't become anti-dairy.
