When I was younger I was "naturally skinny" and ate "a lot of junk food" but I was active and didn't actually eat a lot. People saw me eating something every so often and made assumptions that weren't true about the rest of my eating habits. These days, I'm not well and very sedentary so the same eating habits make it…

Nobody's forced to eat more than they need. Lots of people have reasons that they do. Those reasons are none of my business unless they ask my advice. Losing weight is hard. If it were easy then there wouldn't be so many weight loss scams, so much money in the weight loss industry and so many people who are over-weight. In…

You can say anything you like. You might not like the response. It's entirely up to you.

Before I start posting in a new community I read a couple of weeks worth of posts first. Just to get a feel for the community and the types of things people are likely to say. Otherwise you risk coming across rather tone deaf through lack of knowledge even though your intent was to be helpful.

Because I get my facts from people/sources that can prove their claims via rigorous research and experiments that have repeatable outcomes no matter who conducts them.

Yes. I think most people fail at New Years Resolutions. I don't care what kind of reasons you make up for them.

When I was going I went for an hour, five days a week. Twenty to thirty minutes wouldn't have felt worth the drive to get there.

Everything I've heard in recent years has been that ego depletion or the idea that self control is a limited resource is probably not true or at the very least not the whole story. I also don't think it's the best way of thinking about things (if you believe that you only have so much self control it can be easier to make…

I don't know if it's statistically accurate or not. I do know that I had the most luck with the gym when I joined a gym that had a personal trainers. I felt more encouraged and I worked harder. I was also less worried about doing something wrong and hurting myself because they corrected me if my form was off. Therefor I…

Nope. Eating slowly and chewing a certain number of times was a fad diet that came in during Edwardian times. If it worked it would've stuck around and fewer people would be overweight instead of the idea cycling around every couple of decades.

You could try a nappy rash type cream

I don't like the focus on how a person is supposed to relate to food. I can eat perfectly healthily without eating mindfully, avoiding snacks, eating with other people, in a quiet place etc. I also don't have to learn to cook (although it's certainly easier if you can) nor do I have to teach others to do so. The guidelines…

Before doing any sort of exercise I'd ask the doctor treating your back if it's okay. That said, are you able to walk? It might be good for you and the dogs. You don't need exercise to lose weight but it would give you a few more calories to play with, walking is good for *some* back problems (not necessarily yours) and…

I love dehydrated apples. I buy red ones, leave the skin on and cut them quite finely (much thinner than bought ones) and they're chewy and sweet. Mango is good as well.

I have problems with bloating (and other issues) because I have IBS. Cutting out gluten would do absolutely nothing for me. If you're worried or it's causing you enough discomfort that you're considering cutting out a major food group then seeing a doctor would be a good idea.
-
I like repetition as well, as long as I like the food I'm happy to eat it over and over again. I would want to add a few more vegetables to this menu though.

If you're already on 100mg of topamax then you'd know if you were going to experience appetite suppression as a side effect. How long have you been trying to eat at a deficit? Maybe you should talk to your doctor if you're having problems.

Experimenting to see what makes you full is a good idea because it's probably not going to be the same as what makes the next person full. Typically I eat some kind of meat (chicken or lamb, about 100g) and lots of vegetables (broccoli, cauliflower, peas, corn etc.) or a broth based soup for dinner. That's what I like to…

I've eaten it, yes. I don't feel particularly sentimental about it and I like that they're free range. I quite like the taste but I'm not a big meat eater in general.
-
Yeah but we keep having to cull kangaroos (at least in some areas) whereas koalas are, if not exactly endangered , under threat.

I can feel hungry and it kind of feels good. It's usually when I've had dinner four or five hours a go, I could definitely eat but I'm not so hungry my stomach is complaining at me terribly and I've not been doing terribly much in the meantime. In that situation, it's just a sensation and not an unpleasant one. If it's…

You don't eat meat, seafood, dairy or beans? If not you're cutting out a lot of food groups and should probably be worried about a number of nutrients including protein.

How much actual fibre are you getting? I track my fibre intake and even when I feel like I'm eating a lot of it I find it hard to reach the recommended daily intake (for a woman) of 25g. You can get fibre supplements or Metamucil if you feel that's the issue. If you suddenly up your fibre intake though you may get even…

This is how I do it. My average at home dinners are about 597 calories so when I'm out and can't find an entry I think is reasonable I quick add 717 calories (the extra 220 calories is to account for the extra oils, sugar and fat etc that restaurants seem to use. It's kind of an arbitrary amount but it seems to work for me…

Emotional eating isn't something that happens all the time for me. It's something that only happens when I'm really struggling so I don't know if this will be terribly helpful, This is what I do though. I try to make time for my hobbies, the ones I find most soothing. If I'm having a lot of trouble not eating then I try to…
-
Yep. Eating too much of everything made me overweight so therefor, I track everything.
-
Because when you deep fry you generally use a lot of oil. Like at the fish and chip shop. I don't deep fry myself but if I did, I wouldn't log several cups worth of oil when I know I haven't consumed that much. It would be insane.

Maybe after restricting for so long you need a break. There's a thread at the moment "Of refeeds and diet breaks" that might be helpful. My only real exercise is walking and I find it helps a lot because I'm not doing it in a strenuous enough manner for it to make me hungry but it gives me enough calories that I can eat a…

As far as I'm understanding it, the problem is that you don't have time for snacks and your lunch doesn't have enough calories in it to give you enough calories at the end of the day? If that's correct, I'd either add some calories to your dinner or lunch maybe google 100 or 200 calorie snacks and see if anything appeals…

I go to the toilet and weigh every morning. I do #2 about once every three days. Not always first thing in the morning. I've not noticed much of a difference in my weight on those days that I do happen to poo before I weigh than on the days that I don't. I figure there's not much I can do about it anyway so there's not…
