I’m not saying you should ditch the steady state cardio, but adding additional weight training in your workouts to me is smart.

Weights in my opinion are an essential part of losing and maintaining weight. Muscle is 15% more dense than fat and should be incorporated regardless of your goals. That said, what are your goals? Lose weight, body recomposes, lean bulk, etc? How’s your nutrition (this’ll be number 1 before anything)? I’m not sure what…

Love them all! Personally I love plyo pushups. Endless amounts of variation and you can do some serious bodyweight work! Otherwise it’s playing baseball. Still throwing in the 80s I’ll take it!

I teach HIIT too by it takes on many forms. Whole idea is to keep the heart rate up and the rest periods give you just enough time to catch your breath and go again. I like to personally go 45 sec on/15 off when I go this style but it just depends on you and what your body can handle. HIIT also doesn’t mean you need only…

I myself got certified as a Group instructor through NASM/AFAA. NASM is the preferred but AfFAA and ACE are fine as well. It needs to be NCCA accredited. If you go through NASM make sure you read not skim. The material is awesome I actually enjoyed it.

There is nothing wrong with this is you do split workouts. I’d work in small shoulder type exercises for the rotator cuff area too. Target those smaller but often neglected muscles.

I scan the room and offer suggestions without calling someone out. If j see someone struggling I will say something like “everyone looks great, if you feel your form is lagging here a reason a few other options you can do so we can keep good form, otherwise great work we have 30 seconds left then rest. It’s a group setting…

@Machka9 I’d love the chance to explain further what I meant here. Starters those are certainly not terms I use for my class. When I say push my bodyweight further, I mean personally the strength I’ve been able to gain through taking group fitness myself has allowed me to jump further higher, chase after my dogs more…

@lorrpb I digress. I’ll explain further what I meant. I will always provide modifications to the audience. The instructor has to know the audience and adjust to that. You’ll never find me being disrespectful and all I meant is at times I’ll offer additional modifications and it can be as simple and widen your stance or…

The positives far outweigh the downside. I understand people can have schedules that simply do not allow to make those times. And kudos to all of you who still get something done. I fully agree with @CookieJones2018 The community sense is amazing. This gets people to look at others and push one another positively. Look…

I’d say the number one misconception, aside from group classes are “not for me without trying one” is that you have to lift heavy to gain strength. Your muscles do not care how much you are lifting or how long you are in the gym, all they know is if are they exhausted or fatigued. I myself take other classes and have…

The biggest underlying factor I am seeing is that the instructor makes or breaks whether or not you come back. While they are not a personal trainer, they should be offering modifications given that the population is never on the exact same level fitness wise. My HIIT class had people from 21 to 66 yrs old in there yet…

This makes perfect sense. It can be so hard to fit it in but you make it work for you. Awesome job and at home workouts are no joke!
