I think I will just use individual portions of the curry sauce straight from the jar and then mix it in with each portion of stir-fry. It should stay good in the fridge for a week or so after opening. Thanks all!

Oh, I hadn't thought of something as simple as appearance, my thoughts went straight to poisonous, ha ha

I will admit that I would be uncomfortable around a mother breastfeeding a 5 year old, too. Can't explain it or reason, just a feeling. Maybe because it just isn't that common a sight.

Nutella. Just can't stop dipping into that jar!

I've been overweight almost my whole life and except for one time in my early twenties (when I lost a bunch, but slowly put it back on once I got married) I haven't even tried to lose weight. Always thought it could only be accomplished by depriving yourself of everything you enjoy. 4 - 5 years ago I decided it was time to…

I couldn't skip breakfast, I can't stand the thought of going about the first couple hours of my day without eating! I found that I have an easier time having my last food hours before I go to bed, then I still read for an hour or two in bed, and even if I feel a little hunger pinch that doesn't bother me because I know…

I am relieved to hear that other people experience the same! I've tried running on the treadmill, just short spurts of a minute or so in between fast walking, and I thought my lungs would burst. Gave up on it and settled for elliptical, stair climber and bike instead for cardio.

She is articulating just fine. Whether the doctor's opinion is true that protein from the supplement is processed differently by the body than from food directly I don't know.

At my gym they charge $36 per hour, and I ended up not taking one. Once I am about halfway to my goal weight, I would like to take a break from losing and concentrate on lifting. I have been strength training on machines and with dumbbells and kettle bells, but would like to get into lifting with a bar. I may take a…

I get what you're saying, and thanks for the reply!

Thank you

So, I get at least a point for not being completely wrong? I didn't mention bones, water, hair, etc. because the issue is muscle and fat. I do believe that most people when they say muscle is heavier than fat know that a pound of muscle weighs the same as a pound of fat. It may not be the most accurate way of…

This is just a thought about the discussion "muscle weighs more than fat". I believe most people know and mean that per volume unit muscle is heavier because it's denser, and that they know that one pound weighs as much as another pound. By the logic of people who consider this a wrong statement, wouldn't it also be wrong…

Thanks for that explanation!

That's great that you're doing so well! And I wasn't implying you should do anything different, I was just describing how it's working for me. And you're the one who has a head start, I'm 11 years your senior  I wish I had done this 10 years ago.

I am roughly your height and starting weight and am down 20 lbs now. Everybody should go with what works for them, but I personally still want my food to be enjoyable. I haven't really cut out anything that I used to eat, I eat less of everything though. And there's nothing that I started eating just because it is…

Thanks! Maybe there are certain negative connotations that you only have as a native speaker. But there have been a couple of people here in this thread that are bothered by someone saying muscle tone or getting toned. Then they seem to be wrong, not the people who say that.
-
English is not my first language, so I don't get what's wrong with talking about "muscle tone" or "being toned"? Just had a quick glance at Wikipedia, and the word seems related to muscle.

@luluinca, well, I don't intend to go crazy on vacation, however, it'll be my first test, so I hope I can stay on track!
-
I'm not in a hurry with losing this weight, I also think it's better to lose it slowly rather than too fast. What you're saying is just confirming what I thought I might do, taking maintenance breaks. So far I've lost 18 lbs and even though I do cardio and strength training, I feel I'm not building up much endurance and…
-
Thank you, luluinca! I think you look great! I've been strength training and eventually would like to get into heavier lifting, but I have a 2 week vacation coming up and don't really want to start before that. I've even thought of stopping to eat at a deficit once I've lost 20 or 25 lbs and maintain and try to build up…

1Nana, thanks for sharing! And definitely, I'd rather get to a healthy weight and have to deal with some loose skin, than stay overweight. I guess I'm just trying to get a feeling for what to expect in terms of skin.

Hi ladies, I'm a couple of years away from 55, but I thought this might be a good place to ask. I'm 51, SW was 204, CW is 186 and GW is approx. 145. For those of you who have lost weight at roughly this age and roughly the amount that I would like to lose (max. 60 lbs), has loose skin been a real issue?
-
Thank you all for your comments! Arizona, you sure don't look like you've had 3 children and have ever been overweight! Ann, that was a very good depiction of loose skin, thank you! I'm not in a hurry with losing this weight. I've doing strength training and cardio all along, but have the feeling that because I eat at a…
-
Oh definitely, would rather lose the weight and deal with a little loose skin!
-
Wow, great! You must have good genes!
-
Thank you both, that's encouraging! I don't anticipate loose skin on my arms so much, but on my stomach, since I seem to carry most of my weight in that area. And I've been strength training and want to get more into a little heavier lifting than what I've been doing so far, so that should help. You both look great, I hope…
-
Sounds good, thank you jemhh! By the way, judging by your profile picture you've reached your goal in great shape!
-
Okay, so I think I'll stick to what I've been doing a little while longer, and maybe give up a little cardio for more strength training. My protein intake is supposed to be around 70 g, and there are so many different opinions out there on how much one should eat. I try to get to 100 g a day, sometimes I'm under, sometimes…

Thanks! What do you consider reasonable deficit? Mine is set for a 1 lb loss per week, maybe I should reduce that to .5 lb instead of going into maintenance for a while.
