Not in the Philly area, but thanks for taking the time to respond!

I have a serger, but I made the ones so far on my regular sewing machine. In case I had to rip out something I didn't want to have to rip out a serged seam. The one successful pair I've worn at the gym multiple times, it's gone through the washer and dryer as often, and all the seams have been holding up. Once I am 100 %…

Great, thank you!

Thank you all for your replies! I had heard of Fehr Trade before, but kind of forgotten about it, so this is a good reminder to check them out. I did get the Jalie pattern from an etsy seller, but I am aware of their website. Haven't tried any of their other patterns yet, but they seem to have a good reputation, haven't…

I'm about the same age, and for a while just did mostly cardio while losing weight. Towards the end of last year I felt that I was getting softer all over (muscle loss from losing weight?), so before Christmas (yes, before, not after!) I started strength training sessions with a trainer at the local gym. It is more money…

Just found it, under My Home, I had looked under Settings.

I haven't been able to draw from my food list, nothing from pages 2 on anyway, for days now. Did yours just work again after a little while?
-
Was thinking of that, also easier to keep track of calories. With bread I weigh out each individual slice I cut off because they're all different, so rolls would make that part easier.

Thanks! I don't have a Dutch oven yet, but last night I made a no knead dough and today I baked it in a baking mold without lid. It doesn't look pretty, the crust isn't shiny at all, but it tastes great!
-
Thanks, madwells1! I am familiar with the no knead method, but have never used a Dutch oven. Might be time to finally get one!
-
That bread looks great! Crust even looks a little shiny, something I've only achieved so far when "throwing" water into the hot oven to create a burst of steam. Is this how it comes out when baked in a Dutch oven? With the lid closed? I'm really curious because I want to bake my own bread again after getting away from it…

Love it! I grew up being served whole fish, even with the head still on, but a lot of Americans are just grossed out by it, I assume that's why your post was wooed :/

Do you guys eat overnight oatmeal cold the next morning? I often mix my ingredients in the evening, so that in the morning I just have to put the bowl in the microwave, so I guess they are overnight oats, but I always eat my oatmeal warm.

Hi, I'm in my early 50ies and have lost 30 lbs so far. I've been exercising all along, and my arms and legs look good, they never were huge, since I carry most of my weight around the mid-section. That has gotten softer, though, and by the time I'm done with losing, it'll be even more so, but luckily that's a part of my…

Instead of finding things that only take ten minutes or so to fix, consider bulk cooking. I often make a huge pot of soup and freeze portions, usually have at least 3 different soups in the freezer. Same with meat sauce, chili etc., cook once, have X meals. I personally don't like cooking only 1 or 2 portions of something,…

I started losing weight using MFP and exercising in March of last year and lost about 30 lbs by September, then I gave myself a break and maintained, plus the 4 or 5 weeks leading up to Christmas I really indulged (on purpose) and put on 4 lbs. Right after the holidays I stepped up exercising and eating at a deficit again…

This is what we end up doing more and more often! Considering a backpack to carry the dog.
-
Thanks all for your replies! Even though I've spent quite a bit of time on this website since March, I still seem to have a lot of beliefs about nutrition/exercise that turn out to be false. Enjoy the rest of your Sunday!

I kind of get bored easily, so for me a variety of exercise types would probably work best. I hope it turns out that I like lifting!
-
I probably phrased that wrong. If it is true that lifting makes your leg muscles grow bulkier and running makes them leaner, then wouldn't doing both types of exercises mean that you're wiping out the gain from one exercise by doing the other? Not sure this is any clearer ;)
-
Hm, I didn't really want to wait with the lifting until I have reached my goal weight. I bought the books Strong Curves and Thinner, Leaner, Stronger because they were mentioned here on the forums a lot. Since I wouldn't trust myself to start lifting on my own, I booked sessions with the owner of a small local gym that…

I've used "all whites" from a carton many times, they whip up great. I would never use real eggs and discard the best part, the yolks, if I only needed the whites at the moment. Not sure where you live, Rosemary, but here in the US they put those cartons with the real eggs.
-
Thanks for the angel food cake idea! All the recipes I found said not to use egg whites from a carton, but from actual eggs. Why is that?
-
Okay, I get it now! I've heard of xanthan gum, but never really bothered to look it up, until now. From what I read, cornstarch can also be used as a thickener in baking, and I have that already, so I would try that first. Thanks, though!
-
I'm not really worried about gluten in my food, I'm just trying to incorporate more protein, especially into my sweets which I won't let go. I have never used protein powder and was determined not to resort to it, but it seems tough if you're not a big meat eater. There are certain recipes where I add protein through egg…
-
I used to bake bread a lot, but it didn't even occur to me to add protein powder to bread dough, so thanks for bringing it up!
-
Thanks! I have plenty of frozen overripe bananas in the freezer, so I think I'll start with a banana bread. I made the cheesecake from your thread a couple of times, but used beaten egg whites instead of protein powder. Always turned out great, so much so that it never made it into the freezer but was gone within a couple…

I'm only about half way to my goal weight, but I imagine when I get there I will have to continue weighing myself once a week just to catch an upward trend in time. For now the weighing and logging doesn't bother me, but maybe once I get to your point it will. Somehow I hope that by then I will have a good feeling for what…

Ah, I wish I hadn't seen this link, I can't stop checking in on them!

Thanks, Madwells! I wouldn't have reheated it over and over, I would have cooked it once, frozen individual portions, then reheated those. I'm usually not concerned about food spoiling quickly, I eat certain things past due date, I leave things sitting on the counter for hours before I put them in the fridge etc. It was…
