  • Not sad. Just disappointed in myself because I was doing so well for so long, but ultimately burned myself out. This time it is going to be steady with a day off every week since last time had maybe one day off every 4-8 weeks. Another issue is activity as well. Went from having a very active job with 7-10 miles of walking…
  • Good luck! Sounds like you have a reasonable goal and shouldn't be much of a problem :-)
  • Good luck! Started April 2017 and lost 65 pounds in eight months. Still ate the same foods, just much less of them. I was pretty hard core the first two months and then realized it was a good idea to take one day off every week and eat maintenance calories for my current weight at that time. The holiday season was rough…
  • Running into that issue myself. I've lost 61 pounds at 2 pounds a week. However, this last 6 weeks as been rough. My workload has reduced significantly causing a reduction in the amount of calories. I've found it easier to focus on 1 pounds a week rather than 2.
  • Once a week or once every two weeks. Usually Saturday or Sunday morning when taking the kiddos over to my mothers. Keeping the scale at her place helps since I love numbers and would probably weigh myself 3 times (or more) a day while creating a spread sheet. This was actually at my wife's request.
  • I find foods that are easy to make, cheap, fun(ish), and enough to cycle through the month or weeks. Basically the same food cycled throughout the month. Monday, Wednesday, and Saturdays are basically cheese and beef quesadilla, minus the spice (sensitivity issues), and no sauces. In other-words a hamburger on a flour…
  • I gave up sweets for about 2 months when first starting this lifestyle change. I was way over yesterday (The worst day yet)! However, it is okay to have a few rough days, but try to keep them within what your maintenance goals would be at your ideal weight OR current weight. Which ever you're comfortable with.
  • Are you bored all the time? That is my issue and learned to drink water when hungry and keep myself busy on the computer when home. I like to study / play games to keep my mind occupied. My wife doesn't seem to mind it so much since building a mobile desk on wheels. I can stay busy and still spend time with her.
  • Do you measure and count your fluids as well? I've run into a few people this last couple months that are weighing their food accurately and still leveled off for extended periods of time. They were not measuring some drinks such as home made coffee with flavoring or milk / creamers not being counted. It all adds up.
  • I switched to Torani sugar free and 2% milk. 3 cups of coffee is only 122 calories. Every now and then I'll trow in a tablespoon of sugar for a little extra kick. Much less than using whole milk / creamer and sugar.
  • I also started a food diary for about 1-2 weeks prior to finding MFP and ate an average of 3400-4200 calories a day. Started my diet on 3/18/17 at 279.8 and weighed in at 234.4 this morning with a goal weight of 175. First couple of weeks were the hardest, but once I figured out a routine and learned to listen to my body…
  • Good information. I weighed myself every day the first week and nearly went mad. Then went to every week (Sunday morning), but now I am weighing in every 4 weeks. Sometimes I'm curious and probably should weigh myself more often. As for cheat days, I personally only eat at maintenance or slightly under and never above.
  • Just watch my calories and nothing more; however, a friend from college is doing keto without watching his calories and he leveled off after losing 30 pounds several months ago. My carbs average around 200 a day, which is 50 lower than it states for my minimum. Sugar and salt is another issue. Not uncommon for me to be 40…
  • Guess it is not a cheat or treat meal if one knows they're going to eat something over their normal calories and prepare ahead of time. I usually know for the next week where my food is coming from and rarely surprised; if there is going to be a calorie heavy day I usually reduce my previous 2-3 days by 50-100 calories…
  • Had this issue myself recently. Started a new job and for the first 2-3 weeks I didn't lose one pound, even with all my new activity. However after weighing myself a couple days it shows not only am I on track, but also lost a little extra from where I should be. Also if you like salty foods or eating easy food which has a…
  • Went through my last couple weeks and noticed my sugar intake has doubled while still staying under my calories. This is from drinking coffee again (2 tbs of sugar) and having a cliff bar for lunch every day - they are cheap and quick.
  • Thanks for the encouragement. I am actually taking the weekend off and staying at what my maintenance would be at for this weekend. First time I have ever taken a break since starting. @SusanMFindlay: Put some old pants on today that have not fit in a year and did not fit 4 weeks ago. They are size 38 and my wife stated "I…
  • My average 5 day week is about 15k - 23k steps/day - my phone which is fairly accurate for those steps when compared with other means of measurement such as walking on a designated loop that has been properly measured may or may not be accurate with calories burned. App usually puts me in the 600-1000 calories burned,…
  • I know all about that! Lived with pain 24 hours a day for 8 weeks before they figured out my gallbladder needed to be removed.
  • I regret having my gallbladder removed last June. Not everyone needs to have it removed. I recommend reading Fatty Liver: You Can Reverse It, by: Dr Sandra Cabot MD. Amazing book and only reason I had my removed is because I did not know about proper dieting or MFP. One I got my weight under control all pain went away and…
  • Good points. I am lifting about 30-70 pounds and pulling heavy loads throughout the day with some ladder use. I can say that my activity estimation was spot on prior to returning to work. Thanks, didn't think about retaining water.
  • Thanks for responding. Thinking I may need to measure to insure weight loss is still taking place and I am not harming myself by not having enough calories. Hopefully this will level off soon and didn't think muscle would build quickly. Thought it would take months for any gains.
  • Good job! Just over 8 weeks here and have lost 29 pounds since my last weigh-in, which was 10 days ago. Who know what I am now :-) Isn't this MFP Amazing! Keep up the good work.
  • Yes. I will search the restaurants website for as much information as possible and if that information is not available then I will search MFP database and / or search for homemade recipes and multiply the calories by 1.25 or 1.5 depending on type of food. So far I've been fairly accurate because my weight loss has been…
  • Lots of good advice here! Let me add that the first couple weeks are the most difficult because you're starting something new and your body will fight you every step of the way. Especially if you don't ease into a diet. Also your taste buds are probably used to sugar and high fructose corn syrup. I would NEVER drink diet…
  • Topomax doesn't just suppress your appetite, it entirely changes your taste buds. My wife takes this because of nerve pain from an auto accident. She is on the maximum amount and the weight loss she said came from not only having no appetite, but also because she no longer liked most foods.
  • Hi. Started with the goal to lose over 100 pounds as well. You can add me too!
  • I am using my real picture since last week. I am not a photogenic person, never have been and is completely out of character to have a picture on the internet.
  • Culmination of things really. About to graduate college (one class left) and my career field of choice likes skinny people. While there is some over weight guys working in the field, they are the old timers and weren't always that big. Also my wife is skinny and likes to be active when she feels well enough. My kids…
  • Just avoid fries, pop (regular), cookies, and ice cream. Unless you have calories to spare at the end of an evening. If you're really hungry get a double quarter pound or Big Mac to reduce carbs and the high sugars from their bread.
