Please feel free to add me too. I lost over 40 pounds on MFP a year ago but am back to try to get off medicine for cholesterol. I also have borderline high blood pressure and want to avoid meds for that. I would be happy to support anyone who eats a plant based diet.

I used to never get flu shots because I never got the flu (or other viruses). Then a few years ago I caught it and was ghastly sick for 3 weeks. I've read the flu can damage your heart. Now I get the shots. It's a small thing to do for extra protection.

I was corrected for writing that carbs are an essential nutrient and told I'm wrong. My statement that carbs are an essential nutrient came from the textbook from a recent university course I took on fitness. The textbook is Fit & Well: Core Concepts and Labs in Physical Fitness and Wellness, pub. by McGraw Hill Education.…

I've had migraines all my life, but have learned to manage them so I only get one every few years (or if a storm comes in and the air pressure significantly changes). I feel for you. My suggestions would be: Google "rebound headache" since you are taking Aleve and possibly have taken other over the counter meds. Many…

I love coffee. I began drinking it when I was 10 years old and now I'm an old lady. I drank as much as I wanted and it never affected me until about a month ago. Then I ended up in the emergency room twice in 2 weeks with scary high blood pressure of 200/100 (mine is normally about 120/80). I shook all over both times for…

Carbs are one of the essential nutrients along with protein, fat, vitamins, minerals and water. It's all about the calories in weight loss. Nutrients are a different story. I took a quick look at your food list above. The one thing that struck me is you don't seem to eat any vegetables. What about swapping out something…

Yes. I lost 40 pounds last year using MFP and have maintained for almost a year. I only told one person. That spared me from "advice" I didn't want to hear and the "you don't need to lose any more weight" when I was still obese. When people comment on my weight loss now, I say yes, I lost weight to be healthier, but that's…

I agree with this. You have medical issues that need to be taken into account. Talk to your doctor.

No to the eating at night contributes to fat gain. If it was true, then all the people who work night shift -- nurses, doctors, police, waiters, pilots, etc, -- would be overweight.

I can't say anything about the 47 percent etc. About salt: I have bordeline high blood pressure and am trying to avoid medicine. I found out I eat too much sodium, which causes water retention. I read that 80 percent of the sodium we eat is in processed/packaged food and 20 percent is from the salt shaker. If you think you…

About IF: I did intermittent fasting for a few weeks and found it very helpful. However, the reason it helped me is because restricting myself to an 8 hour window made my appetite smaller and I ate fewer calories. I wake up about 5 a.m. and leave just before 9 a.m. and sometimes eat 2 breakfasts -- the IF cut that out. To…

You probably lost 5 lbs the first week because that's water weight. That's normal. The MFP program is setup so you can eat the exercise calories back. Sometimes the calorie numbers can be inflated. Many people eat about 50 percent back for that reason. I eat my exercise calories back if I'm hungry, otherwise not. I don't…

I would enjoy the holiday but keep doing some of the same things I do at home: Have one dessert, not two or more Make sure I have salad and vegetables when I eat out as well as an entree and fill up on them first I tell the servers for no butter or cheese (my preference for health reasons, not diet, but I'm sure it saves…

I agree with this ^^^. I just cooked a batch of this and made several inexpensive, protein-rich meals (18 grams of protein per cup) -- 1 bag of dried lentils (cost $1 US dollar) -- chopped carrots and onions (less than $1) -- a little spice (McCormick's, a lot of different kinds, I used the Mexican spice tonight. A…

Is it safe and reasonable to lose 15-20 pounds by Janurary? Yes, it's perfectly safe and reasonable to lose 15-20 pounds by January. Aim to lose about 1-2 pounds a week, not faster than that. Its personally really hard for me ignore the comments telling me not to lose weight and that Im being ridiculous. I also dont…

[quote="SarahKenney2;c-40184034" I still think I may have an underlying health issue, because low grade fevers, joint pain, and flu-like muscle aches shouldn't be caused by dehydration or electrolyte imbalance. I also have a mysterious chronic elevated WBC in my blood tests, so that feeds my suspicion.[/quote] If I were…

What is your goal, to lose weight? Calories are the most important thing to monitor. Eating carbs in the a.m. or p.m. doesn't make any difference. Remember that carbohydrates are one of the essential nutrients (along wiith protein, fat, vitamins, minerals, and water). We need carbs. Our brains need glucose to function. My…

MFP does track sodium on the regular free app. If it is not already on your food diary, go into settings, then diary settings to choose sodium. The food entries are made by users and some people don't bother to include sodium. You can also make your own entries.

There are a lot of milks: Dairy milk (protein, calcium, added Vit D) Various plant milks -- I like Silk protein nutmilk (10 G protein, calcium, added Vit D. 80 percent less sugar than dairy and 50 percent more calcium). Here's the Silk website for nutient info on almond, cashew, coconut and soy milk. They have a "compare…

I've never been able to do a full pushup, only the baby kind with my knees on the floor. I would love to do one! I'm not going to say can't though -- it's can't so far. In fact, now I want to try again.

^^ Totally agree with this. Please don't sterotype me, either. I'm 63. I love walking and hiking. My car got a flat tire this week. While I was waiting for a new tire to arrive at the car dealer, I walked to the gym, exercised, walked to the grocery store afterwards, and carried my groceries home. I could have asked a…

Congrats on the weight loss and for taking charge of your health. I wish you continued success.

Good for you for starting to turn your health around. I'm 63, lost 40 pounds in six months, and have maintained for almost a year. I didn't have a problem losng the weight. The MFP food/exercise diary has been very helpful. I was obviously overeating, sitting on the couch too much, and eating to please other people. I…

All you have to do is read labels, weigh and measure food, and look up the food in the MFP database to find the calories. There's no complicated teaching needed to make the transition from using a shake to eating regular food. I did it and went on to lose another 30 pounds, which I've maintained for a year now. Shakes are…

A year ago I used Slimfast and Atkins shakes for 1-2 meals a day for about a month until I figured out what I wanted to eat. I had some medical problems, needed to lose weight, and improve my overall health. I lost about 10 pounds that month. Once I worked out my diet, I changed to eating oatmeal, large salads, lentil…

If I eat a lot more than usual (like at a Chinese buffet), I usually feel bloated the next day and don't want to look at food. You mentioned water. That's a good idea. Why do you get off track and overeat? Are you eating enough on a regular basis? Is it physical or emotional? What's your goal or motive for wanting to be…
