  • When I first started I was on 1,200 a day and I found it fairly easy to maintain. That said, everyone is different. If you are feeling constantly hungry you aren't going to be able to maintain it and you're more likely to binge (i.e. on crisps). It might help you to consider that when I upped my calories to 1,300, I…
  • Does 25 count? I'm 5ft6, started at 132lbs and I'm now 117lbs. I'm now looking to maintain the fat loss but build up some muscle! I do cardio and light weight lifting (while I'm weak, but hoping to get stronger and be able to lift more!).
  • Please up your amount :( You may feel fine now, but eating 500 calories a day can cause side effects such as hair loss, nausea, fatigue etc., and more serious issues such as brain hemorrhage and strokes. Stay safe!
  • I log everyday too and my diary is open! Happy to connect with anyone similar :)
  • Yes, and I agree with you. My wording was perhaps a little off; I was trying to keep it very basic when explaining to someone with no knowledge of what a carb is. I thought it simpler and easier for her to read that low carb diets usually cut down on bread and pastas, rather than cucumber like she's mentioned. Long and…
  • I have not once said we shouldn't eat bread, I have said that a LOW CARB DIET cuts out high calorie carbs such as pasta and bread. That's all!!!!!!
  • Bread can come in two forms: white, refined-flour bread, with mostly simple carbohydrates, and whole-grain bread, with mostly complex carbohydrates
  • I really didn't mean to offend anyone, I'm simply making the point that complex carbs are not the same as simple carbs; no low carb diets (that I know of) cut out vegetables, but almost all cut down on pasta and white bread. 100g of bread is generally considered worse for you than 100g of broccoli in general nutrition &…
  • Wow, some of these points scrutinising everything I say for no reason really... I'm not saying to cut out bread and pasta - I eat both - I'm answering the first question asking what the nutritionist meant by carbs. It's obvious she didn't mean vegetables. Eating bread isn't the same as eating vegetables; cooking salmon…
  • Thanks for your long corrective rant, but I was using simplistic terms relevant to her query and was simply saying that a LOW CARB DIET refers to cutting carbs such as bread and pasta out, rather than low carb/high fiber foods such as vegetables. It's most common in the atkins or keto diets - which obviously don't cut out…
  • No, bread isn't natural, it's man made and it's a refined carb (especially if it's white, whole grain is better for you and more nutritional). Bread is made from natural ingredients (wheat) so does have fiber in it, but it's a 'starchy' refined carb and nowhere near as nutritional as natural fiber carbs found in vegetables…
  • I would imagine that your nutritionist is referring to heavy/refined/processed carbs that don't have much nutrition, such as bread or pasta. Carbs in fruits and vegetables are fine as they're natural - these are 'fiber' carbs and needed. Just like sugar in a banana is natural when compared to sugar in sweets, natural carbs…
  • Why would you ask someone for a credit report before a FIRST date?! You wouldn't ask them for their salary and bonus information before a first date, would you?!? Genuinely shocked.
  • I'm 5ft6 - started at 132lbs and I'm now 118lbs (4 months in). I started on 1,200 calories and about a month ago (or maybe 2, I can't remember!) I upped it to 1,300. Everyone is different and I can't say why, but I've actually found that I've lost weight more steadily since I've upped it! I found eating 1,200 was fine but…

  • Why so negative???? For all you know she's referring to a day long hike/walk.

  • It depends if you're just trying to lose weight or if you're trying to get fit/healthy, and how consistent it is. If you're trying to lose weight, if you're under your calorie count it doesn't really matter too much. However, if you're wanting to get fitter and healthier, it's more important to make sure your macros are…
  • Definitely just jealous!!! Sisters are the worst for that. I'm 5ft6 and I weigh 118lb; I'm still curvy - no bones showing and noone has implied I'm too skinny. Keep doing your thing! If you're happy, then great. If you want to keep going - do!
  • 9 minutes for 5km??? Who are you, Mo Farah? :p
  • You should wait 2-3 hours before running after eating 200-300 calories - if you go straight away you can feel sluggish and it can give you stitches/cramps etc. If you need to go in the morning, you can go on a run before breakfast, or if 'fasting' running is too difficult (especially if it's a 10km), you can eat something…
  • If you have a sweet tooth I would make sure that you choose snacks with nutritional benefits that taste sweet, for example, dates, oranges, strawberries etc., rather than reaching for actual sweets. Also choose food that's high in protein (meats, eggs, edamame beans etc.) and fibre (broccoli, and most veg really), as this…
  • That's not a bad idea. Bit cringey to begin with I imagine, but it's important! :)
  • Welcome :)

  • My calorie goal is set at 1,300. I've lost 14 lbs in around 4 months - that's around 0.8 lbs per week. However, I am shorter than you at just under 5ft6. It's important to make your goal NET though. So if you exercise and burn 200 calories, eat 1,400 - 1,500 calories. If you're choosing fresh food that's high in protein…
  • That's crazy!!! I spend about £100 per month (c. $129) for my share of the food shop - so about £200 ($258). All of the food I buy is fresh - nothing frozen, very rarely anything tinned. I want to know what you're buying!! Fresh food must be much more expensive over there...
  • What fantastic progress in only 4 months!! Congrats :)
  • My goal is 1,300 but there are days I'm well under this - between 1000 - 1200. 1200 is the ideal minimum, but definitely make sure you're never going lower than 1000 net. That said, I work in a sendentary job with long hours so some days I'm hardly on my feet at all. You need to do what works for you - if you're on your…
  • I weigh myself daily to get an idea of fluctuations etc., but I only record it once a week - every Wednesday first thing in the morning.

  • That fitbit calculation looks way off to me, way too high. I appreciate you're excerising lots too, but 10,000 steps (approximately 5 miles) a day is only about 400 calories. If that fitbit calculation is right, then you're not eating enough. You'd be eating 2,650 calories less a day than needed.... I think you'd know…
