I have been curious to try one of these dna kits but I'm undecided between the Ancestry one and the 23 and Me one. I like how the Ancestry one will try to match you up with other relatives who have taken the test, but do you need to pay extra in order to view/contact these matches?

Love this thread! I'm far from a healthy eater, at the moment my main focus is hitting my calorie target.

I came across an online ad for something called a Booband which you strap around your chest and is designed to minimise breast bounce when you run/exercise. Not sure how effective that would be on larger cup sizes but might be worth looking into. There are lots of free fitness routines and aerobics videos you could follow…

I'm on 1200 too. It's always a struggle coming up with meal ideas so it would be nice to get some insight into what other 1200'ers are eating!

Me too!!

Both for me. I like to have a glass of dairy sometimes and I use it to make porridge or scrambled eggs. When I have weetabix I use soy milk as it's sweet enough by itself I don't need to add any sugar.

Darn, I just tried my local Tesco superstore and they don't stock it yet.

Thank you

I only got engaged today, so no wedding date set yet! I've been trying to lose weight for the past few months anyway but now I have another reason to motivate me :)

I have similar goals too, currently at 224 lbs. Great to know I'm not alone! Good luck everyone :)

Came across this website which lists portion sizes for various food items, quite handy! https://www.cookipedia.co.uk/recipes_wiki/Portions_per_person

I'm the same, I don't like to eat something if I don't know the nutritional values as I can't log it accurately. Using an estimation or substitution makes me anxious in case I have underestimated. Counting calories is the only thing that works for me and being sloppy about it will hinder my progress so on the rare days I…

Here's a guide on how to add food and change weights/measurements - http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/1234699/logging-accurately-step-by-step-guide/p1

I just discovered an app called Happy Scale thanks to the forums. You log your weight daily and it gives you an average weight that is more accurate due to fluctuations. It also calculates your rate of weight loss and gives you an idea of when you'll hit your goal weight, allowing you to set mini-targets along the way.

I'm an iphone user too so I use their Health app. I also use Pacer for steps, Clue for my menstrual cycle, Happy Scale for weight tracking, HASfit for exercise videos and of course My Fitness Pal for calorie tracking.

Oh so it's like a drinking game but with exercise, that sounds like a fun way to be more active :)

What do you mean by film-based workouts?

I used to have a cheap one and it was lightweight and flimsy so it would move around a lot, I got frustrated with it.

My clothes were too small, I got breathless easily and seeing photos of myself helped me realise how much bigger I am than I thought I was. It was also quite embarrassing to go clothes shopping with my skinny friends in 'regular' shops where not even their 'plus size' ranges would fit me and make excuses not to try…

Really depends whether you're simply standing on it or doing exercises on it such as lunges, calf raises and squats.

There's only a few veggies I like - broccoli, sugarsnap peas, cauliflower and asparagus.

I think 'net calories under/over weekly goal' is the number of calories you have gone over or fall short of your goal in a week, and it excludes (or filters out like a net) bonus calories burned through exercise. So if you go over your daily goal by 200 calories but burned it off through exercise this will be excluded from…

I usually set my calories to lose 2 lbs a week but I was aiming for maintenance yesterday and logged using estimates. I went over maintenance by about 400 calories which I'm ok with as even if I underestimated the calories I should still be able to lose 1 lb over the week, or at least not gain anything!

Having family around so we're doing lamb, pork and beef with roast potatoes, pigs in blankets, yorkshire pudding, stuffing balls and lots of veggies (cauliflower, sprouts, broccoli, carrots, swede and cabbage).
