Feel free to add me! I've got a long journey ahead, wanting to lose 51kgs (112lbs)

My allergies/intolerances and being put onto a low FODMAP diet by my doctor to try and work out what is causing my GI upsets. Today was a very emotional day, where I was completely overwhelmed by it all and caused anxiety trying to work out what would be safe for me to eat.

I've outgrown my dairy and egg allergy - although diagnosed in my early 20s. My allergies to grasses (about 15 different types!) and pollen remain, although I have been desensitised meaning I don't react as badly as I used to. I've been told my tree nut and peanut allergies (I'm anaphylactic) though which were only…

As someone said earlier, awareness of these diets and why a person would follow them is key. Unfortunately, those who follow them because they are 'the latest weight loss trend' or whatever else they won't to call them, actually make it harder for those who need to follow these diets for medical reasons. I know personally,…

@Relser It is possible to be overweight and have coeliac/celiac. In Australia, our Coeliac Society has listed weight gain as a symptom for the disease - the reason for this - and this is what was explained to me by my GI specialist who is the leading researcher for Coeliac Disease in Australia - is that for many,…

Thank you @RodaRose for your response. Both of the links you provided were extremely informative and have helped me to better understand exactly what FODMAPs are and what I should be looking for when I am reading labels and out shopping for fresh produce!

@livingleanlivingclean Thank you, I will check the link out.

@JeromeBarry1 As mentioned above in my opening post, this will eventually happen once a clear medical diagnosis has been made  The specialist is currently trying to rule out some other GI issues (such as inflammatory bowel disease) so that we have a clear diagnosis to take to the dietician. I have seen dieticians in…

Not a massive packaged food eater, but there are still a few staples I do buy (e.g. bread, passatta, spice mixes and a couple of sauces) as money and time wise, they really aren't worth me making. 98% of the time, I am making my foods from scratch due to other health issues.

Hi all! Please feel free to add me. I'd love some more friends who completely get the PCOS struggle and would love to support you back! Stats: - 29 years old - diagnosed at 15 but problems began at around 12 or 13 years of age starting with irregular periods. - Symptoms - irregular periods, insulin resistance, hormonal…

I've got about 116lbs (52 kgs) have sent you a friend request

Aussie girl here as well!! Feel free to add me if you like! Would love to have some fitness buddies who are in the same hemisphere, running on a similar time zone and use the good old metric system
-
Feel free to add me, also looking for some more supportive friends. I've got 53 kgs (116 lbs) to lose, but breaking it down into 5kg (11 lbs) blocks

Hi! Good luck with your journey! There are plenty of supportive people here on MFP. I'm returning after illness and wanting to lose some of the weight I regained after the last time. My overall goal is to lose 53kg (116 lbs) but I also find it hard to lose due to a condition known as PCOS. I completely agree with what…

Hi @kommodevaran, Your post has really resonated with me out of all the posts so far. After dealing with dieticians, I there is a bit of resentment there, and also a tinge of regret that I dealt with them for so long thinking that by working with them I was doing the right thing in order to reach my healthy weight. Over…

Hi @meganw2020 Thanks for the reply! I think you are completely right, especially since that anxiety extends to social gatherings where we eat out, and fearing that I will get sick as unfortunately many places (at least the more affordable) treat it as though you are being a fussy eater or trying to be trendy when in fact…
-
Would also love to have more female friends, and will to support others as well. Anybody who is looking for some new buddies, please feel free to add me. I'm just starting back with MFP, my initial goal is to lose the 20 kilos I gained whilst unwell over the past two year, and then resume losing to meet my ideal goal…

Hi @alwaysbloated, Thanks for the response! My problem isn't staying in within the calories, it's the opposite - I struggle to reach them! Due to the allergies and intolerances I have, I've been eating quite healthy for a while. As I mentioned in my initial post, if I do get take away, it's usually Sushi, otherwise I…

Hi @ahoy_m8, Thanks for your response. Unfortunately for me, planning or no planning, I honestly still do not enjoy it whatsoever. I definitely get the satisfaction for the meal prep and presentation, especially when cooking for others, but eating it is a pure struggle. Also completely understand where you are coming from…

Thanks @leanitup123! This is very insightful!

Welcome back! I've just rejoined as well after a rather long absence. Feel free to add me if you like

Not from NZ ... but straight across the Tasman in Australia! Feel free to add if you like

Hi skymningen, You've definitely given me some food for thought (no pun intended!) there. Reflecting on what I'm thinking during those times is definitely something I can work on and see how that is impacting me on this journey. Thank you so much for this!

I based my goal weight on the BMI index. I know BMI can be controversial at times, but when I calculated my current BMI on MFP, I looked at what the weight for the 'healthy' BMI range should be, and went with the higher number that was still within the range. As the weight comes off, I will then adjust it to suit what…

To be more confident and to fight off multiple health issues, where being a lower weight would be of great benefit.

Feel free to add me, would love some encouragement as I've just joined and looking to lose around 53 kilos

Hi Machka9, A variety of foods is great, and because of my allergies and intolerances, it's helped me expand on what I can have. Unfortunately though, that being said, many of my choices are limited at times, as I also need to contend with PCOS which makes things a little harder because I need to be extremely careful when…

Hi kommodevaran, I hadn't thought of it like that - maybe I am trying to fix something that isn't a major problem. I eat reasonably healthy as it is (still with the odd treat) and as I said, I don't eat take out which for me also includes buying a lot of junk from the supermarket, but what I am doing is trying to tweak my…
