  • Spartan athlete...does that count? We run in the woods, up mountains, swim, lift heavy stuff and throw spears.
  • You should seriously consider CrossFit. I love it, although I’m injured at the moment...ankle sprain. I can’t wait to get back to it.
  • I've done this particular race. It's actually in western Mass but they still call it the Boston race. It's a challenge but very doable, even for a beginner. My benchmark Spartan race is Killington, which I've done twice. I figure that if I can survive Killington, I can do anything. So by that standard, Boston was a piece…
  • As others have stated, the workouts are scalable, so you do what you can do, and you’ll see yourself improve in a fairly short period of time. You’ll be stronger, and your endurance will definitely improve if you stick with it. I’m over 50 and thought I was in pretty good shape. Then I started CrossFit and found out I was…

  • Where is your race? Is the terrain hilly? If so, get used to carrying heavy things up hills. Are you doing a sprint? Also don’t skimp on your shoes. People sometimes make the mistake of using old shoes because of the mud. Get yourself a good pair of trail shoes. Also get some lifting gloves to protect your hands. For the…
  • A few things... Drop another 20 pounds, and master the rope climb. After 8 months of CrossFit I’m starting powerlifting today. I’ll do that for a few months to get my strength up and then start including CrossFit again to prepare for the multiple OCR races I’ve signed up for this year. Should be a fun year!
  • Good for you, I’m sure you’ll enjoy it. I started six months ago and have seen some major changes and did my first Spartan race in September. I will share one thing I’ve learned about CrossFit...when you look at the workout and think “That doesn’t look so bad”, be prepared because it’s ALWAYS bad. Just carrying degrees of…
  • Good for you! Very happy for you. How does Keto work for someone who is doing very intense workouts like CrossFit? I lost 30 pounds last year doing low carb (not Keto, just low carb) and I’d burn out quickly when I’d try to work out. I’d like to lose another 20 pounds but don’t want to give up CrossFit and lifting. Is Keto…
  • Will I need a head lamp or glow sticks with a 12:30 start time for a sprint? I'm hoping to finish this by 3:00. I've heard others recommend just putting one foot in front of the other, and don't look up, so I'm sure I'll be doing a lot of that. I've stuck to my training, and have added some very technically challenging…
  • I did a quick internet search and found that it burns between 250 and 350 calories an hour. I'd find a cardio activity that burns a similar amount of calories and use that. That's what I do for my CrossFit class. Pole dancing sounds like a blast, I'd love to try it. Alas, no classes in my area. Enjoy!
  • I had a Charge HR too, and also had pain in my wrist from wearing it. I found that if I wore it on the inside of my wrist it didn't hurt. It seemed to be just as accurate, too.
  • I've been going to a regular gym for a few years, saw average results. Three months ago I joined a CrossFit gym. The difference is like night and day. Yes it more expensive, but you get coaches who are watching and correcting your form so you don't get hurt. Never had that at a gym. The workouts are challenging and…
  • I started Crossfit about three months ago. I had been running and going to a regular gym for four years prior. I've seen more improvement in my strength and appearance since starting Crossfit than I've seen doing anything else. When I first started I was amazed at the people who had obviously been doing this a while. The…
  • I love my Fitbit Alta. The new models come in rose gold, so it's almost like wearing jewelry. It shows time, heart rate, steps, active minutes, calories burned and distance you've walked that day. And it's pretty.
  • Have you done it? If so, any words of wisdom? (Other than make sure your team mates can carry your lifeless body back down the mountain)
