  • During my first year of college eons ago, I was astounded by the variety and amount of food offered. Everything looked good (and it was) and in retrospect, I probably tried everything to include everything on the dessert table. All the meals were similar in the variety of offerings and amounts. I wasn't heavy when I…
  • My gym has wipes. However, if I haven't seen the person before me wipe, I take a couple of wipes, first wiping my hands after use and then cleaning the machine
  • Thank you for your response. Yes, it's a rehab plan to gain strength from rotator cuff surgery. Although I have had PT, I have become very weak and all of my muscles have atrophied from inactivity. Additionally I've gained 30 pounds from that inactivity (and overeating). I've lost a couple pounds and my BMI is now barely…
  • A few years ago I had a personal trainer with the goal of increasing muscle. At the time I was about 61-62 years old and weighed about 130 lbs. Much of those 130 lbs was fat. Anyway, my personal trainer informed that there were stages in increasing muscle. The first stage was creating muscle fibers. That involved a…
  • I think I'm more concerned with not meeting my step and mileage goal. My personal goal is 12,000 steps.
  • I did aquafit for years. I loved it! As lorrpb said, there are likely different types. I've done shallow, deep and aqua Zoomba. I don't have the stamina for bootcamp. I went to a morning class, so there were a lot of seniors there, but some younger folks were there who weren't working during that time. At my fitness center…
  • I'm aiming to lose 30 pounds. Although my BMI finally is at normal level for my height (25.5), my fat was measured at 39.
  • Mine is currently 25.5, but my body fat was measured at 39
  • I would love an Apple Watch. Unfortunately, my Fitbit is only step based.
  • I started to weigh more and more and when my clothes didn't fit me, had to purchase larger sizes. Although I was disgusted, it still wasn't enough to motivate me. When I had to buy even larger sizes because I outgrew the previously larger sizes, I became really disgusted. When my coat didn't even fit - that was it! I went…
  • Hmmm - it's good that you logged it. So, to repair the damage (if any). Did you have any excess calories the other days of the week? If so, that's good. If not, That's 215 extra calories a day. Is it possible to log 215 either in exercise or calorie reduction to make this up? Either way....move on. Yup - Cheat day.
  • Yes - I eat most of them. I'm also on 1200 calories to lose only .7 lbs a week. While I mostly trust my Fitbit, the exercise calories I earn aren't very strenuous. I mostly walk around to gain steps - sometimes I jog in place. So, I don't eat them all - just most.
  • You look awesome.! Great job!
  • You are so awesome and incredible. The only suggestion I can offer is to avoid becoming depressed during your recovery. You will hurt and it will be difficult to move. As you said, your prior fitness routines will be put on hold. Perhaps you can explain your situation to your health care provider and they can help with…
  • I know EXACTLY what you mean. I am also at my highest weight EVER. I gained so much weight that I was too ashamed to leave the house (still am). My friends/acquaintances know me as a fairly 'thin' person. After a shoulder injury and subsequent surgery, I was unable to do anything. Walking was even difficult as my gait was…
  • Mir After my last colonoscopy, the gastro Dr. recommended Miralax to me. The Dr. said it is not harmful for me to take it every day or even every other day. Dr. also said there are generic names for Miralax, which work the same and are cheaper. I purchase mine at WalMart.

  • You can do it - Baby steps, one day at a time.
  • Ohhhhh - thank you Malibu. :)
  • Davenport (central). Snowbird 9 months of year.
  • While I'm talking about the weekly reports, I'm confused about the calories and net calories reports. The calories report reflect the actual number of calories I ate. I eat back my exercise calories, so the amount of calories I eat is always higher than my set amount of 1200. I get that. Yesterday I ate 1407 calories, but…
  • I can add the snack and it shows on that day. However, when I go the weekly reports to see the calories for the week, it is not reflected on that day. Apparently it doesn't transfer to the report section. You're right I shouldn't eat after completing diary. That has been a bad habit of mine contributing to weight gain.
  • Sometimes working on a shoulder with a torn tendon (even with a trained therapist) can cause irreparable damage. Consult an ortho dr.
  • I hurt my shoulder in September, 2016 playing pickleball (like tennis for old people). I had the same symptoms - tried icing, rest, etc. Nothing worked. In October I saw an Ortho Dr. who did an X-ray which revealed nothing was broken and gave me a cortisone shot. He also gave me some exercises to do, which hurt more when I…
  • After syncing my Fitbit, and coming to MFP, I have to sometimes go between exercise and food (even 2-3 times) before the exercise adjustment shows up.
  • I'm a 'Snowbird' and live 9 months in Florida in an over 55 community. There are LOTS of trike riders in my community/neighborhood. One guy has even modified his trike to carry his golf clubs. I wanted and needed a bike as I have arthritis in my toes and ankles, so it hurts to walk (oh - I'm 67). I have a 15 speed, but I…
  • Indeed smoking increases your metabolism. I read that if a person lowered their daily calorie intake by about 100-150, it should offset that. The recommendation of short bursts of exercise seems reasonable in offsetting any potential metabolism loss. I also read that a person would have to gain over 50 lbs to equal the…
  • That's not true. She loves him and wants a long life with him.
  • Beef Jerky. High protein, low calorie. However, high sodium and tough on teeth.
