  • Mine is not syncing either and I am relieved to learn that I am not alone. I notice there is an article in the tech help section stating that some maintenance issue is causing problems.
  • Oh PS forgot this bit..... buy a FitBit or some other exerciser watch thingy. I love mine. If I lose track of time and find myself spending too long at my PC it buzzes me and tells me to get off my backside. It is really fun tracking your exercise, steps taken, sleep and improved resting heart rate.
  • You can do it. Okay so our metabolism may slow a little as we age, but the biggest factor is that we may be inclined to move less. Losing weight as a 50+ is the same as losing it at 18. You eat less calories (and/or carbs if that is what works for you) and you up the exercise. So maybe you don't wish to jog any more but…
  • Yup it definitely takes into account HR. If I get a fright I get credit for exercise. :D As much as I enjoy seeing that credit amount I never call upon it to consume more. I tend to do roughly the same type & amount of exercise per day so I just eat the amount of carbs/calories that I have set as my target.
  • Looks like I am the tall lanky one here at 5'4"
  • I have the Fitbit Charge 2 and I love it. For me it is a constant reminder that moving is a good thing. Love pawing over my reports to see what I have achieved.
  • I'm in my mid 60s. I am 163cm (5'4") and it suggested 1200 for me too. I don't lose weight on that, but generally that is okay as I am using MFP mainly to track nutrients to help with my insulin dependence (T1 diabetes). If I want to lose a little weight I do find that I have to crank up my exercise & drop some calories…
  • Oh Lindor chocolates = endorphins, sertonin, dompamine & happy dancing. I can not imagine one making me feel bad. Having said that, I look the other way when I pass them in the supermarket.
  • It is a good guide but you have to use a bit of common sense with it. For example a person can have stick thin arms & legs but be carrying fat around their middle and still have a BMI in the healthy weight range.
  • I have a daughter who has coeliac, so we need to do gluten free when she visits us. You have to watch the specific "gluten free" foods as they often contain more calories, more fat & more carbs than their equivalents and in my opinion taste gack. Rather than buying gluten free foods I'd be looking at just eliminating those…
  • I must admit I'd never considered the consequences of potty visits :) For me I stagger out of bed in the morning, do a wee (that is all that happens for me at that time of the day) and then weigh. You've all got me interested now. I've have to weigh after nature's call and learn how much a poo weighs.
  • There will be a day where all of a sudden everyone notices. Where I work I get to see customers every 4 weeks and if one day I see they have lost weight and I say "wow you look great, you have lost weight", they will usually say "thanks, yeah I have lost 20 kilos". I always feel bad that I didn't notice but I guess that is…
  • It was just one day. Acknowledge that it was yummo but now it is time to get back on track.
  • Fantastic. Congratulations.
  • I use a set of gram scales for both solids and liquids and then plug everything in here at MFP. Too easy :D
  • I paid for it. My main reason for doing so is that as type 1 diabetic it is helpful for me to be able to customise my profile a bit more than what you can do with the free service. Getting rid of the adverts is nice too, but you can do that with some of the advert blocking plugins. For me it was worth it.
  • Hi Emily. You look great and you should be proud of your achievements so far. I have to agree with need2belean that your quest to lose 40 pounds in about 29 weeks would be awfully difficult to achieve. I like the idea of 10 pound targets too, with the option to reevaluate the situation when you get there.
  • Hi mrbaca2010. Good for you for taking the first steps to getting your weight under control. Whatever you do, make it fun. If keto really is a nightmare for you it won't work. Find something that you know you will be able to do for many months or maybe even years if you have a lot to lose. There are lots of different ways…
  • My understanding is that BMI is not a bad indicator for the average person but is not gospel. There are other tools, such as waist measurement, body fat measure and how does the person look in swim wear. It is a good guide but I am sure, meant to be used with common sense.
  • Yes. Enjoy the goodies and track them too.
  • Great job. You have every reason to be pleased with your progress. Indeed, do keep those clothes. It will be fun to try them on at intervals.
  • I weight every day, for a couple of reasons. First, it sets me in the right frame of mind first thing in the morning. Second, it keeps me aware that weight can fluctuate significantly on a day to day basis. For me, there is nothing more soul destroying than waiting an entire week to weigh and then registering a no-change…
