@amymoreorless They adjusted for "age, sex, education, waist hip ratio, smoking, physical activity, urban/rural, diabetes, regions, and energy intake" as well as "household income, household wealth, and economic level of the country" (https://www.thelancet.com/cms/attachment/2113864408/2084408033/mmc1.pdf). Urban and rural…

I have been going to a lot of parties these days (graduation, birthday, etc.) and keep eating cake and ice cream. I haven't gained any weight, but I am not really losing right now, either. I keep having a couple good days, then eating cake and ice cream. It's my weakness! :(

This is an interesting study. I know people here are making fun of it, but I find it compelling. This is a large (135,335 participants) cohort study, meaning the subjects were followed over a period of years - in this case, 10 years. This lends to the validity of this study, as opposed to a small, brief study with little…

Fat free evaporated milk. Edit - 25 cals per 2T serving. Lightens coffee up nicely like half/half does. :)

Feel free to add me as well!!!

I do, and I find it often has to do with how my hormones are doing on that day.

Former smoker, but quit about 15 years ago when I found out I was pregnant - but I had it easy, I was too sick to smoke! My max is about 1500 cal/day, but I'm usually at about 1200. Congrats on quitting!!!

Congratulations on quitting!!! That is awesome. I'm a former smoker and now how hard it is. Get through the first month or so and it is a lot easier. You're going to feel so much better. :) Regarding Chantix, weight gain is listed as a side effect in <1% of patients. Much more common are the following: >10%: Central…

I used to skip breakfast because it bothered my stomach. I would just eat an early lunch at about 11. But, then I quit drinking coffee and switched to tea, which will legit make me sick if I drink it on an empty stomach. Therefore, I started eating something light for breakfast - like an Oatmega bar or Greek yogurt.…

Hi Susann, I see you are a new poster - I am, too, though not new to MFP. Welcome! :) I am finishing nurse practitioner school, and my preceptor is a big proponent of the keto diet. She has had a lot of success with it. I lost ~200 pounds on the Atkins diet back in the '90's, which is a similar concept. One of the best…

I was lamenting this same thing. Over the weekend, I went to a Memorial Day BBQ and a birthday party. I've decided to focus on the fun I had with the people I love, rather than beat myself up for indulging in some treats. I'm just going to be more vigilant this week and it will all even out.

My point was that fat intake is emphasized on keto, to the point where I’m wondering if she is taking in too much fat. Fat = calories, in which case excess fat = excess calories. It is unlikely she is getting excess calories from other sources in the keto diet, since carbs are highly restricted (although she could be…

I lost almost 200 pounds when I was 18 by doing Atkins, and kept if off since then (for the most part - I had two babies, etc.). I think the reason that diet worked so well for me, when a low-fat diet did not, was because I felt satiated all the time. I get very hangry when my blood sugar gets low, and that never happened…

I agree with this, but I did say that the reality is, they are eating too much. If they are obese, likely they are eating more than a standard 1800-2000 kcal/day.

You probably were eating a lot of sodium. Restaurant food is always loaded with it. If you were using your legs more than usual, then the odds are also that you're doubly retaining fluid because of muscular inflammation. It should all even out in a week or so.

I've often heard of this "starvation mode" thing, but I'm not sure of the science behind it. Anytime I've been told I'm eating too little and that's why I'm not losing weight, I've increased my calories and GAINED weight. Then, I go back to the original caloric intake and step up my workout, and end up losing again. I…

That is awesome!! I feel so much better since cutting alcohol out of my life. Even if I had a Michelob Ultra or other low calorie beer, it would make me so hungry I'd just lose my inhibitions and eat whatever I wanted. I have found that replacing my evening alcoholic beverage with sparkling water and lime/lemon "tricks" me…
