  • Urine strips will only show excessive ketones that your body couldn’t use. You could be in ketosis and the urine strips won't show it.
  • It's really not much of a different taste from heavy cream in coffee. Just a LOT cheaper. It's got to be blended though, you can't just toss a pat in and stir. I haven't seen it in my Publix yet, but I'll keep an eye out. I don't get to Target much but next time I'm there I'll look. Closest Whole Foods is at least a half…
  • I need to see if I can find this in the one of the local stores and give it a try. Generally I just drink my coffee black with a light dash of Splenda from time to time but sometimes I like to mix things up. My version of fancy coffee is really pretty basic. I brew 8 - 10 ounces of Cafe Bustelo, measure out exactly 1/2…
  • I'm generally not a fan of such things either, but the Slimfast Advanced Nutrition stuff isn't terrible. 1 net carb per bottle and 20g of protein. But still, I prefer real food. I only grab it when it's on sale.
  • Same here.
  • I do a similar diet along with medications for the same reasons. Not straight carnivore as I do eat eggs, green vegetables, cheese, and similar low carb foods. In my case it's working well and I'm in much better shape as far as inflammation and my skin rash. What it hasn't helped with is the pain levels. No constipation…
  • Better read the ingredient list on that shredded cheese; most has potato starch, cellulose, or similar added to keep it from clumping together. I buy block cheese and shred it with a grater as needed.
  • Nope, never. Not as a child and not as an adult. Personally I find milk to be vile. The only time I've ever used milk is for cooking, and now it's only when I'm cooking for others. I'll do butter, heavy whipping cream, all sorts of cheeses, etc but milk makes me wretch.
  • Gotta watch those carrots, they're pretty high in carbs. I cut them out of my diet completely. Onions can be up there too depending on the variety. I eat 'em, but sparingly on my salads and occasionally paired with meat. But I measure everything closely so I don't blow my carbs up by too much.
  • Electrolytes. 6 cups water (~ 1.5 l) The juice of one medium lemon ( 55ml) ½ tsp potassium chloride or lite salt ¼ tsp Salt 2 tsp Natural Calm magnesium supplement Optional: 2 squeezes of Water Enhancer ( Fruit Flavored, Naturally sweetened with Stevia)
  • Over a year in, and I still have zero appetite most days. But my migraine med is probably mostly to blame for that. Sometimes I have to remind myself that I need to eat otherwise I'd probably go a few days without eating.
  • This. Salt and magnesium are important when you cut carbs, also potassium to a lesser extent. I'd suggest checking out these groups: https://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/group/394-low-carber-daily-forum https://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/group/1143-keto…
  • And I just finished my meal about a half hour ago. Currently rounding out my second coffee of the day.
  • Yep. I am EXTREMELY sedentary most days. As in I seldom leave the house. The most walking I do is the bathroom and back, the kitchen and back, etc. On a good day I might walk to the mailbox. On a real good day I might visit a neighbor or pop in to the store down the street. But that's pretty rare. I'm in constant pain and…
  • You're like me, you fall out of the normal curve for some reason or other. For my stats I should be eating similar but I'd gain if I ate 2000 calories a day. I'm absolutely stuffed most of the time @ 1350 unless it's something like nuts. This is pretty much what I do, but occasionally I do make my own sort of bulletproof…
  • I could easily do 9 cups of veggies if I was in a position to grow my own again, but I can't afford to buy that much fresh produce so I tend to stick to canned or frozen things and a lot of salad type stuff. I routinely eat entire cans of green beans or spinach and use entire sacks of hearts of Romaine in a single sitting.…
  • I don't follow any particular schedule but find that I naturally fast. Typically I have my first coffee between 10 and noon. Sometimes I eat a small nibble of something or other between 2 and 4 PM, and then I generally eat a meal anywhere between 7 and 11 PM. Yeah, I'm a weird one and am a natural night owl that seldom…
  • Yeah, I got the same reactions when I mentioned that going low carb/keto lessened my autoimmune joint inflammation by a great deal and helped with migraine control. As if having quality of life again was a bad thing.
  • +1 I constantly have to remind the other shoppers in the house not to get the light sour cream, 2%, 4%, etc cottage cheese because it's got more sugar. Always go for the full fat stuff. Sugar = bad. Also, you know you're Keto when you still have a ton of calories left over and aren't hungry whatsoever. At least for me any…
  • Just finished Available Light by Dayton Ward, the most recent Star Trek TNG novel.
  • I've had my systolic well over 200 more than once and felt perfectly fine but the doctors freaked the F out. No strokes or TIAs yet. *knocks on wood*
  • Boots and jeans year 'round here, but usually wearing some sort of geek or tech t-shirt with it. I traded my cowboy hat for ball caps in the mid - late 90s. Linux user, Trek lover from childhood, car audio fan for 30ish years now, and pretty much neon white except for the farmers tan on my arms and face.
  • I'm afraid I can't help. I have severe hypertension and even on medications it's barely controlled. I've had it since I was 19 - 20 years old. Right now it's at the best it's been in 20+ years, but my resting systolic will still be 130 - 140 and diastolic between 80 and 90. I've tried pretty much every med out there and…
  • I've always thought broccoli, lettuces, tomatoes, green beans, cabbage, Brussels's sprouts, squash, etc tasted divine. There's definitely a sweetness to green beans and romaine lettuce. Cabbage and Brussels sprouts have a bite to them, tomatoes vary depending on the variety, and I could go on and on. At one time before I…
  • I count calories and keep track of carbs. But I kinda have to because I'm a chronic pain person and am extremely sedentary though that is getting slightly since most of the joint inflammation has gone away. From June last year until the first of this year I did 1200 calories a day, but now I'm eating more as I'm way…
  • I've always kinda been curious about my ketones, but in the 13 months that I've been eating this way I've never once checked my levels. Perhaps I'll pick up some strips next time I happen to be in the store.
  • Nope, not weird at all. I've always been super sensitive to sweets and some smells are migraine triggers for me. There are things that are sickly sweet to me and are instant stomach turners if I just catch a whiff of them.
  • The only way to do it is if you use a regular computer and a web browser, then you can install Tampermonkey and a script that'll show net carbs on MFP.
