Doctor’s visit 1.5 years ago: 376lbs, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, pre-diabetic, 51 years old, and a 6 year old daughter at home who needed a dad like her 4 adult siblings had. Knew it was time to make a choice: Get busy living, or get busy dying. Down 113lbs today, all health markers normal, still losing weight,…

Most Americans don’t get nearly enough potassium. There are lots of other foods in addition to bananas with potassium. I eat LOTS of spinach. https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/foods-loaded-with-potassium#section2

Yes, yes, and yes. I have neither the time nor the desire to go to a gym. I knew if I couldn’t workout at home, and eat real people food (yes, employing a calorie deficit), I wouldn’t do it. I’ve lost over 100lbs in just over a year - AT HOME.

It’s funny, I’ve never been a hip-hop fan, but my rowing playlist is mostly glitch-hop, preferably without lyrics, like “Funkysaurus” by Dr. Zoidberg, on Straight Up Glitch Hop! Vol. 10. The beat keeps me moving. https://open.spotify.com/track/3ufe4KjGVoFnNxPItC0IeZ?si=PGdBhllyRDiQQu6I6-Ocvw

I’ll keep it simple: 1.5 years ago at 51 years old, 376lbs, got some test results back - high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and staring down the barrel of type 2 diabetes. I had to make a decision: get busy living, or get busy dying. I’ve lost 105lbs to date, hit a few plateaus in that time, and when I feel…

The latest human trials do indeed suggest IF impacts weight loss, perhaps significantly, as well as several key health markers: https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S1550413118302535 https://m.ufhealth.org/news/2018/intermittent-fasting-leads-significant-weight-loss-slows-aging-uf-research-review-finds

I enjoy working out, definitely feel good afterwards, and like the results, but I have to “force my kitten out the door” more often than not. I figure it’s just part of the deal. All I know is, I’m not going back to the way I was - on a fast road to an early grave - so I push thru the lack of motivation, and get busy…

Never had an issue with constipation until I started working out 6 days a week. MFP was saying I needed 30g of dietary fiber per day, and that didn’t even start to get things moving. I upped my fiber intake to 60-100g per day with the food I was eating (lots of blackberries in protein shakes), and that helped, but still…

105 down, another 60+ to go. Start with small steps - log your food (a KP study in 2008 showed that people who keep a food diary lose twice as much weight as those who don’t). I started with 5-10 minutes on the stationary bike, and did more as I felt able. I added body weight weight training, then worked up to a bench and…

Good for you! A Kaiser Permanente study about 10 years ago shows that keeping a food diary can double your weight loss.

There seems to be some recent research indicating that “when” you eat may make a difference. https://www.health.harvard.edu/blog/intermittent-fasting-surprising-update-2018062914156

Lost 50lbs about 2.5 years ago, tracking calories but no regular exercise. Started gaining it back when the holidays came around, and ended up gaining it all back and more. Got some bad test results last March and decided it was time to get busy living or get busy dying. Started tracking my food on mfp again, and regular…

I started that journey a year and a half ago. Still have 70+lbs to go. Lost 100lbs in the first year, and have plateaued a bit, but blood sugar, cholesterol, BP are all down. Building lean muscle, and chipping away at the fat. I’ll be 53 in a couple weeks. Be encouraged that if I can get on the right track, it’s possible…
