  • Yea, you either eat them as you peel them of give them a few minutes to be easier to handle. I always buy frozen peeled deveined tail on shrimp since everything outside of Florida and S. Caroline is frozen anyway. Even it is in a fresh seafood display in the grocery.
  • No need to cook shrimp in any oil. Saute pan with no water if frozen or 1 tbsp water if fresh then drizzle 7 grams of oil or butter on them and continue the saute.
  • It all depends on whether you skim off the chicken fat. If you let it cool and pull off the fat is has 15 calories per cup. The fat has 9 calories per gram so three tablespoons is 345 calories. And, that is not very much for rendering out a whole chicken minus the breasts and thighs. PS: The chicken stock is a by product…
  • Weigh what you put on your plate and then weigh what goes back to the kitchen. Bone, fat, gristle, etc. The difference is how much you ate.
  • Set the strainer down on a plate on the scale. Weight will register. Take out your portion. weight will go down. That proportion of the total times the dry weight is how much you had.
  • Calorie count info is relevant from dry pasta weight. Portion size from cooked. If I made 600 calories of pasta I just have to weigh the cooked and my portion of the cooked to get my calories.
  • Self denial and self sacrifice is part of the problem, not part of the solution.
  • Just stay the course. These things can take a few weeks to spool up. At 1100 calories counted accurately you will make it. Back off the muscle building exercise and stick with low impact cardio and drink tons of water and don't reduce sodium until the last 10 days. Then, when the photos are done and Mr. Wonderful carries…
  • I just watched a youtube video on washing and boiling the starch out of regular white rice reducing calories by 50% A lot of extra work, but 50% reduction would make the fish and rice dishes I fix regularly fit in a lot better. More salmon, less shrimp.
  • Amazon will bring it tomorrow or Tuesday. I'll do my best not to smell it before I rinse it. What about mixing it with real rice? 50-50?
  • I should have been clearer. Its on the way but I have not tried it. I eat fish and rice . . . a lot. And, looking for ways to eat more meals within calorie goals. I would like to hear thumbs up or down on this alternative.
  • Diet is certainly important for good health. But a medical doctor who directs his patient to confine himself to a "plant based diet" is a quack.
  • I can understand a person's reluctance to eat food that was once a living creature. It is a philosophical or ethical choice. But why would a medical doctor attempt to impose philosophy or ethos on a patient when everyone agrees that a balanced diet including items other than plant based is healthier.
  • A lot of harm has been done by this medical mistake. Persons with no real medical reason have been warned to adopt a diet of very low fat and low cholesterol which has resulted in eliminating some of the best, healthiest, least expensive and most nutritious foods. Eggs, cheese, seafood, etc. A whole industry has been built…
  • I usually start any snack with berries. Strawberries being my favorite. It seems to take the edge off the process so I eat less of the calorie dense snacks.
  • The myth of low dietary cholesterol improving health continues.
  • No photo, didn't happen. Delete the 900 calories.
  • i guess you missed the NIH publication I posted above.
  • It is so optimistic that people think that bad blood cholesterol can be fixed by eating these horrible diets. It gives hope I suppose. Abstract Background: Dietary cholesterol has been suggested to increase the risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD), which has led to US recommendations to reduce cholesterol intake.…
  • Abstract Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the leading cause of death in the United States. For years, dietary cholesterol was implicated in increasing blood cholesterol levels leading to the elevated risk of CVD. To date, extensive research did not show evidence to support a role of dietary cholesterol in the development of…
  • Its all in the prep. Blind tested, Folgers is preferred by a plurality of all coffee drinkers, overwhelmingly among females 45-65. And, it is primarily comprised of Ethiopian beans, the most desirable of all choices. Double the amount you used last and use a French Press and distilled water. There is not a craft roasted…
  • Log 500 calories and don't do it again.
  • Cooked pasta also varies based on the type of pasta,. So weighing dry is the only way. If it must be divided after cooking one would weigh dry to get the calorie count of the whole thing and then weigh each cooked portion to see what % of the calories end up on your plate.
  • Let's say this again. Pasta has 100 calories per ounce dry. End of discussion.
  • Actually, the opposite is true. When weight goes down, the ratio of surface area to weight goes up.
  • Much of calorie consumption is expended in keeping the poorly insulated 200 pounds of mostly water at 98-99 F in an environment of ambient temperature 30 degrees below that. When the 200 pound blob of water becomes a 150 pound blob, guess what ? A 25% reduction in the energy to keep it warm.
  • Add Tums to your ritual. Everyone can use more calcium.
  • It is regrettable that serious compulsive behavior such as binge eating is relegated to a lack or work or will power or discipline. It used to be the case with alcoholism and drug addiction that friends and relatives would say "just bear down and be on guard always and put in the work or get a hobby or eat a lot of candies…
  • You're in control. Make lunch your main meal. Look forward to it. You won't feel self conscious when others are eating well and you have a few scraps of rabbit food. Make a big tub of chicken salad from chicken breast, celery and a little Mayo. Aim for 600 calories at lunch. Have the can of soup for dinner.
  • Despite the overwhelming efforts by the some of the regulars here, a person must choose for himself the foods he eats. Especially true of snacks. A person does not just get to age 40 or whatnot and say "by Jove I love that Greek Yogurt! Who knew!" Let him have his chocolate. Unless he has diabetes, it will be fine.
