Low calorie comfort food. Armour is much better then Libbey. 100g of Heinz baked beans, and a Jalapeno. About 320 calories.

Peanuts. Why bother with peanuts which are not really nuts at 160 cal per ounce when one can have almonds or walnuts or cashews with about the same count.

Franky, I have to suggest you toughen up a little. A lot of people on here, including myself, are science based, and the theories you came in here with are what many people think of as pretty much non scientific. Truly supportive would have been to try to get you to abandon the fad diets and accept the CICO approach and…

Sadly, doctors are really no better morally than anyone else. Did I say "sadly?" it isn't sad its just human nature. 90% of them or something are really fine honest people. The rest range from unfocused on moral issues to malevolent and all points in between. Like lawyers, teacher cops and salesmen. So when a couple…

Hundreds of millions of dollars were spent convincing the public that butter is unhealthy. Only to find that the trans fat in margarine was what was seriously unhealthy. Mostly transfat is phased out now, but the lobbying efforts continue and food industry funded studies continue to influence medical opinions. Most medical…

Eat fish.

Being somewhat interested in food history I spent a good 15 minutes on Google and Google Scholar trying to find a citation for your statement. Other than a couple of online commentators - nothing. Where did you hear that?

Fad diets usually don't work long term.
-
I eat a lot of both, but I also think lightly sauteed Spam (Original or Lite) is a pretty good alternative for bacon.

I guess if someone is religiously vegan butter is not a choice. But, if not, why would anyone want to reduce butter? It is lower in calories than oils and far better tasting and mouth feel.

Get fresh blueberries, put in gallon freezer bag. Lay it flat so the blueberries are in a single layer on a dinner plate, put the whole thing in the freezer. When frozen remove the plate. That way they don't clump together. I have frozen blueberries in my cereal every morning.

Hunger isn't actually pain, nor is it unbearable. Perhaps those who experience this even when additional food energy is not required might try reinterpreting the feeling and accepting it. Don't you often wonder how people who work in the cold can adapt to it? I had a job once where the ambient temperature was always about…

Without a food scale you will never get the counting right. Might as well go back to WW.

It means nothing of the kind.

I don't think I said a single thing about cold brew being bitter., Its probably the opposite. Just not very good.
-
Cold brew may be popular but it would never stand up in a blind tasting if compared to just about anything made conventionally and then cooled down. The aromatic esters that come off the beans early and at lower temperature are quite acidic. Very bitter. The higher temperature extractions are quite full bodied and mild. In…

I don't expect any converts, but the reason an electric percolator makes the best coffee is the temperature. A french press starts out around 180F and goes down from there. By the time if is poured it is closer to 160 and that is starting with a boiling kettle. Electric percolator superheats the water in the base (steam)…

Keurig with Starbucks Sumatra Dark is not too bad. I have a large and a small French press and use them when people gift me ground coffee, but they are too labor intensive for several cups per day use. Others may recall that I was once a coffee products research lab technician at the P&G basic research food lab at Center…

I question the whole fake protein market. But, those candy bars are just . . uh . . stupid.
-
The database is a total mess. MFP won't bother to remove the entries no one uses because they are too stupid for almost everyone to choose. We select the correct ones and use them. All MFP would have to do is delete the least used 10% every year and the database would be much better.

Mix with mild mustard and use as little as possible.

I like a 1/2 head of Romaine grilled cut side down on a griddle with a pat of butter.

I make a cup of Basmati every week now. It all leftover for me. Sometimes I'll just heat it up and put a can of Polar Salmon and soy sauce with it. Polar Salmon is marvelous: I buy a 12 pack.…

Protein powder is a long range experiment persons are conducting on themselves. Probably benign, but an experiment nonetheless. I like protein found in natural foods.

Render the fat from a couple strips of diced bacon. Remove the bacon and heat the fat to just smoking. Scorch halved and trimmed Brussels sprouts until they are slightly blackened on the outside. Add finely chopped shallots and saute. Turn down the heat, add chicken or turkey broth and simmer until the broth is just…

All about fresh berries. Driscolls are in my store at 5 for $10 most weeks. At most 2 for $5. A pint of blueberries or raspberries or blackberries as a hand food is a good alternative to Doritos. And, by the way, nuts are the most calories dense snack there is.

I had an acquaintance years ago who suffered from severe depression and, probably, schizophrenia. He ate nothing, absolutely nothing, but Skippy Peanut Butter and Welsh's Grape Jelly on Wonder Bread with water to drink for more than 20 years. Sat in his little house, had the little corner store deliver his supplies.
