Don't know about shakes, but in general this is a pretty good resource: https://www.reddit.com/r/EatCheapAndHealthy/

Preach! Harvard should be ashamed of itself.

About the increase in energy needed to transition from walking and running, it puzzles me that they say "unlike once speculated." I think I have always felt this, especially if I have stopped for a break after running for a while and need to rev up the engine to start running again. I find that difficult at times.

It's sweet! It's a potato! What's not to love, lol? :-)

Moonshine. God made bourbon for a reason. If you're going to drink, drink the good stuff.

..or replace with tempeh or tofu. Tempeh is pretty easy to make if you have a food processor. https://vegandad.blogspot.com/2008/03/homemade-sausages.html My favorite vegan recipe author: https://www.theppk.com/ If I were starting out now I would get this cookbook: https://www.theppk.com/books/i-can-cook-vegan/ As…

You are where I want to be in about in 3-4 months. Right now I'm finishing a 10K training plan, will do a virtual 10K, take a week off, then start on training for a HM that would be in mid Feb, if it were being held. How did you choose that particular training plan for your HM?

Y'all have a lot more stomach than I do. I almost faint at the thought of painful things happening to my boney areas.

The doctor who operated on it? Is that person still around and in your rolodex? Good luck with this but it sounds like a medical professional might help. I am so sorry you have to put up with this so close to a race. Ugh.

So many people have already said it, but it's the calories. My diet is about 95-97% plant-based on a calorie basis and I have to watch my calories like a hawk. I am the world's best vegan cookie chef, let me tell you. I give almost all of them away when I make them, too. :-) I wish the OP all the best. I love my vegan…

Also I want to thank all the people who have responded to this thread. This is such a helpful community.

I keep my phone on my person at all times, partly so the Pacer app can record all my running/walking. It ports this data over to MFP automagically. So. Just recently (since my original post) I figured out that I need to manually switch on Pacer's GPS mode every time I want it to record runs. Otherwise it assumes I'm…

A 12-minute mile is 5 mph. I thought the cutoff between walking and running was somewhere between 4.5 and 5 mph. If you are walking 5 mph then you are pretty dang fast! :-)
-
On rest days I keep my walking up--at least 5 miles. My partner also tracks steps and sometimes we can get a little competitive. :-) On days that I am running, if it is a really short run (say 3 miles) then I make up my steps with walking up to 5 miles total. If my run is 5 miles or more then I do not go out of my way to…

B/c I would rather have my exercise calories measured separately and added back in. I eat my exercise calories.
-
This seems like a good strategy--maybe half a Clif bar before the run and half after I'm done... especially on low mile days.
-
Still trying to figure that one out. Pacer seems to show running miles as burning more cals per mile than walking but I have not figured out how much more.

Wow. That's very impressive. Congratulations!

Mayorga--organic, whole bean, dark roast coffee from Costco. Grind it before I use it. Pourover. Black, no sugar.

I'm in for 80 miles this month. Hope all-a-y'all are doing well.

5'9" 54 yo male here. I began using MFP (in earnest) on Oct 1, 2018 when I was 52 yo, starting weight at 202. I lost 35 lbs the first six months, and another 7 pounds during the next 6 months. I did no cardio or weightlifting/resistance training during that time, though I did keep up with my walking. (I had been walking…

08/31 SW: 157 09/25 GW: 155 10/30 GW: 153 12/31 GW: 150 September lessons learned: I really lost nothing the last two weeks. As I approach what I think of as my ideal weight this gets more difficult. I will have to manage this process more precisely or seriously consider just doing recomp. 10-day trending weights from…

Very inspiring!

This is totally a YMMV kind of thing, IMO. I weigh myself every day so I can log my daily weight in Libra, which calculates my 10-day trending average. That trending average is what's meaningful to me, not the day-by-day numbers.
