I have never worked in fitness, and never plan to. I sit at a desk all day. I am in my 50s. I originally lost 49 lbs a few years ago (2018-2019) but, due to a COVID injury, stopped exercising and gained 23 pounds back, stabilizing at 176, which, I have to say, does not feel unhealthy to me. According to this BMI calculator…

At my heaviest I was at 202 lbs. In the fall of 2018, when in my early 50s, I decided to do something about it and over the next 18 months I lost 49 lbs. I stabilized and maintained through the first part of the pandemic but then I stopped running due to an injury and things cascaded and I gained back about 17 lbs. I'm…

For me personally I would tackle the lack of sleep issue first. Not getting enough sleep can have an impact on one's appetite. Plus, people need a certain amount of sleep each night for optimum health anyway.

That math matters. Also, even though I'm running 20-25 mpw now, I still can't outrun a bad diet.

As a runner and (TMI!) a heavy salty sweater, I absolutely need salt when I come in from a run. For me, the best thing I can drink after a long run is my own homemade "gatorade" and it's nothing but ice water with some maple syrup, table salt, and freshly squeezed lemon juice. That and a banana and I'm ready to go again.…

"I don't want to cleanse. I only clean my house occasionally." I love this! And congrats on the weight loss.

That's a wise person. Time is worth something too. For me, the older I get, the more my time is worth.

Wow. That's a great achievement.

I lost 49 pounds and have more or less kept it off except that my weight is now fluctuating within a 3 pound range. I wanted to lose a little more but it has gotten difficult... I think stress from the pandemic is a real thing and it looks like things are returning to (some kind of) normal, so that's good. I weigh myself…

This really resonates with my experience. I thought I finally had the sugar demons whipped, after I lost weight and started running. I really cut down on obvious sweets. Having thought I kicked sugar, I started loading up on vegan Clif bars since I was running 30ish miles every week. I mean, it's vegan! It's a sports bar!…

That's impressive!

Ditto. This is me as well. I don't put any food entirely off limits. Anything I want to eat I eat, and deal with the consequences. I have lost ~49 lbs with basic calorie counting.

Maintenance* over the past seven months... *I'm still looking to lose maybe 5-7 pounds but I feel no urgency about it.

I talk myself into taking little baby steps towards my goal. So, if I don't feel like running, I'll tell myself just to put on my running shorts and then I can decide. Then it will be my shoes, and then I will tell myself to just collect my flipbelt, earbuds, and smartphone... in case I need them. :-) Somewhere in that…

The people above have given you some great advice IMO. Also, one thing that helped me was to ruthlessly cut out any refined sugars. If I eat even the smallest amount of sugar it kicks off a cycle where I feel my energy levels crash and my hunger increases and then I eat more sugar and so on. But this is just me. People are…

Every morning, but I really don't pay attention to any one data point. Instead, I enter my daily weight into Libra, an app that calculates my trending average. That trending average is what informs my weight management decisions.

This is exactly the kind of information I've been looking for. It's always bugged me that my scale (which is very accurate) has a mL option, as well as one for grams, because that is not the way you do milliliters. :-) Do you have a link to a chart with other volume-to-mass conversions?

Thanks for the link!

Wow. Congratulations!

NOICE! Any time I find a pair of ASICS on sale around here, they're an ugly color. These look good.

Seeing by fasting blood glucose slide over into pre-diabetic territory while watching my dad die of Alzheimer's disease, and then adding up all the people in my family who are diabetic (over half) and realizing how many end up with dementia (almost all of the diabetics...)

Every day, and like some others on this forum I keep track of it all on Libra.

Walking outdoors about 30-35 miles/week while making sure I ate at a calorie deficit, that wa responsible for 85% of my weight loss. The last 15% I have lost, over a much longer timeframe, running 12-30 miles/week. For me, I think running makes my calorie deficit more difficult to attain since I am hungrier. The Runger is…

glad to hear you have a great support system...

Thank you @martaindale ! TBH I have been trying to cut down on my social media time so I really love watching the challenge and seeing what folks are doing. :-) @thisvickyruns and @Cricketmad88 ...have y'all seen the challenge? You can access it here:…

For me, it's definitely a habit. I drink strong black coffee with no sugar or milk, and neither do I put anything in my ice tea. I like the astringency of both without sugar/milk. But for some reason, if I make hot black tea, the milk comes out. Still no sugar though...
