  • What is it with people hitting "disagree" on this post or others like it? I personally do not do any type of IF but I don't see how I or anyone else could disagree with a person's direct experience. IF apparently works for some people. More power to them, IMHO.
  • @quilteryoyo gosh I hope things go well for you. I too was wondering, why the 3-month wait? And I hope all the running you have done leaves you in a better place as far as being prepared for surgery. Good luck!
  • What a beautiful place to run. I had the same experience in Durham (NC) yesterday and it really was not even raining...but just misting...a little.

  • @richardgavel nailed it. Here's an interesting video demonstrating where your fat goes: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vuIlsN32WaE
  • I'm not a "gluten free" person by any means but I am so glad the gluten-free market exists because now there is a wider variety of pasta available made with peas and beans; these usually have a much higher protein content per calorie so when I'm cutting they come in handy. True, some of them taste like wet newspaper but…
  • When I was 52 I weighed my heaviest at 202, and started with MFP. In 6 months I lost 35 lbs. It took me 6 more months to lose another 10-12 pounds; I have been stable at that weight (mid-150s) for over a year. Trying to lose the "last 5" now, before the end of the year.
  • Thank you! That photo was taken near the southern terminus of the American Tobacco Trail. https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/north-carolina/american-tobacco-trail-from-southern-terminus I believe the body of water is Beaver Creek.
  • When I run the loop around Duke East Campus, which is relatively flat and straight with just four major turns, I often feel more fatigued than on my other runs--mostly from weaving around walkers, people who are too close and maskless, dog walkers with long retractable leashes, etc. I have wondered if the physical fatigue…
  • Earlier I committed to running a 10K for @PastorVincent, though I did not get the run done as soon as I had hoped. It was a glorious day, last Sunday, when I was able to complete this.
  • Congratulations! Seeing progress like this can be very rewarding. It's been almost exactly a year since I started C25k. Last September I could barely run 60 seconds without passing out. Today I went on a training run and had one of my best runs of the year. I really hope running is as good to you as it has been to me. It's…
  • It's just the rest of your life. No pressure.

  • On Oct 1 2018 I started losing weight, and 11 months later I had lost ~45 lbs. On Sept 15 2019 I started C25K and have run consistently ever since. I'm up to running 5x/week, This week I will be up to 20 mpw. By the end of the year I want to be up to 30 mpw. The entire past year I have been at maintenance but now I'm…
  • I use Pacer, which is a free pedometer app. It counts steps, but does not adjust for running in the background. I have learned to turn on GPS when I want my runs recorded as runs. It ports over to MFP pretty easily. Since I have no other fitness activities at this time it is good enough for what I need.
  • I have never used intermittent fasting (IF) myself, but some people swear by limiting their eating window to 8 hours of less, meaning, for a lot of folks who do this, they just skip breakfast altogether and start with lunch. As far as foods that can fill you up, I believe there is a volume eaters' group somewhere on MFP.…

  • If you are looking for complementary grains, amaranth (a pseudocereal) has a different protein mix than the cereal grains. I believe it has more lysine than wheat. You can eat it as a whole grain as porridge or puff it and put it in a salad. I always feel like I'm playing with my food when I eat amaranth. :-) Also if you…
  • Looks like you're doing great! Congratulations.
  • How do you know I don't have a lowly liberal arts degree? WORSE. I majored in... psychology. lol. But I started making my own soap a few years back. Man that is a rabbit hole...from soap to shampoo to laundry detergent. I picked up some rudimentary information on chemistry when I was trying to decide whether to make…
  • Washing soda is sodium carbonate and baking soda is sodium bicarbonate. Close but very different. Washing soda is much more alkaline than baking soda. If you run out of washing soda, you can make your own by taking baking soda and actually baking it in the oven. I believe the temp and time are related to the amount but you…
  • [Original Response Redacted] Read the first post about vinegar and chimed in but then read the rest of the posts... y'all got it covered. Anyway, I'm another vote for using white vinegar as a soak/rinse/extra wash for odor removal/stripping laundry. It works really well.

  • I was much colder last winter when I lost most of my weight but now that my weight has stabilized I am not so cold anymore. Maybe our bodies get adjusted to the new normal eventually?
  • Not much day-to-day. My pants are too big, :-) My partner also decided to lose weight. We have always had a close, mutually supportive relationship--so that did not change. Losing weight gave me the confidence to take up running and I'm glad I did. I have more energy and am less depressed. The last blood work I got for an…
  • Transitioning from mostly going on fasted runs to making sure I eat a little bit of each macro about an hour before running. I might not be as "fat adapted" (quelle horreur!) but I'm less hungry later in the day. Also, moved my protein into smaller portions, eaten intermittently throughout the day, instead of at 3 big…
  • Congratulations! That was hard work and you deserve to be proud.
  • His goal weight for his height is not considered "so low" according to most medical professionals. 160 lbs puts him almost dead center in what is considered the healthy weight range.
