I like steel cut. It takes an hour to cook.

Big agree on normal-person-budget steak! The flavor and texture are always, "What's the point?" I had a truly great steak exactly once in my life, and the memory has permanently ruined normal steaks. Which can't be a bad thing for the whole saturated fat percentage. Plus the memories of the truly great steak are calorie-…

Yikes, ShinyFuture, adding variable location and last-minute scheduling to the mix is a tough one! I'm impressed! deannalfisher, I'm looking for a cardiologist. Very challenging to get all the specialist appointments in when I'm on PTO accrual and I've already used it all up for 2018. But definitely on my list. It's very…

Wonder if there would be interest in creating a post-injury support subgroup? I've been dealing with an ugly series of car accidents, and I'm so deconditioned it's incredibly hard to keep my spirits up. I think that would be a great use of the site. I wonder if there are enough injured people here?

Thanks everyone again! deannalfisher: No, I'm not on the right dose of meds. :'( But I can't take the right dose of meds. I have acquired long QT syndrome because, like many females with adult ADHD who weren't diagnosed as children, I was misdiagnosed as bipolar for years, and those meds have left me with long QT for life…

I really appreciate everyone's support. It's making it easier to not hate myself for not being able to exercise with this level of injury. I hope that someday I can get better and convert those dang 20 pounds to muscle. The nearest YMCA is a 30 minute drive. . .in the wrong direction relative to work. With pool only open…

Thanks for ideas! Just a note for you (besides sympathy in advance given that eventually you'll be joining the ranks of No Caffeine OR Adderall For the First 30 to 60 Minutes of the Day For the Rest of Your Life). . .consider looking for a second opinion endo. I don't know what exact numbers "too early to treat" means, but…

Yes! I can totally take or leave bacon. And I can't abide the texture of undercooked animal fat, so the only time I'm tempted to take it rather than leave it is if it's been cooked so crisp it shatters and has no rubbery bits at all. So mostly I don't eat bacon.

Like Spinnerdell, I'm totally pro-fruitcake. If you think you hate fruitcake, you've probably eaten a garbage American fruitcake with icky chemical-laden candied fruit. A nice homemade one with dried fruits only, decent citrus peel (which can be really hard to buy in America), and dark, dark, dark cake is gorgeous. And…

Thanks everyone for your help! It does look like the vast majority of people here are WAY more functional than I am within the first hour of waking up with no coffee, eat dinner significantly earlier such that they have empty stomachs by bedtime, and, most of all. . .well, don't have ADHD. That would be SO NICE. And the…

I'll definitely see my doctor as soon as I can. The real kicker has been--the jerk who hit me with their F-550 commercial truck did it when I was only 90 days into a new job. AKA Not Eligible for FMLA. And it's PTO accrual and no PTO donation. So I've been suffering with practically no medical treatment on the discs for a…

Wish I could do bellaa_x0's alarm clock trick, but my sleep latency is 30-45 minutes. So if I set my alarm early, that's the same as waking up an hour early! Grr.

Kathryn247, I'm curious--what do you do in 30 minutes between gulping your pill (I use the shot-glass-on-the-nightstand method from synthroid.com so I can do it practically asleep) and eating? I'm such a zombie without my coffee that I seriously can't do anything but glance at Twitter until the Synthroid Hour ends! And for…

Also, I've tried meal delivery from three different sources. Fitlife Foods was delicious but crazy expensive, and Daily Harvest only delivers to my area on Thursday afternoons, which doesn't really work when they religiously clean the office fridge and freezer at 3PM every Friday. Grocery story delivery once made the…

Taking pill before commute means trying to drive without coffee! Not gonna happen--unsafe! Granola bars have so much sugar there's hardly any difference between that and the junk in the breakroom, and practically all protein bars are soy-based (too much soy is not recommended for Hashimoto's) as well as sugary. I think…

Lentils and black beans are very tasty, but fall firmly into the "take hours to cook" category. Same for winter squash, especially if combined with beans. (SO often the case with vegetarian food!)

I am on a late schedule at work to dodge traffic, so I eat dinner late enough that my stomach isn't empty by bedtime. 3 hours between dinner and sleep almost never happens, let alone 4. 4 hours before bed I'm still in the office! Your second suggestion. . .implies that I succeed in packing lunch. :s I'm a chronic pain…

No way. There is so much backdoor collusion between data-centric businesses right now that you have no idea who will use that data, or for what purpose. If you choose to do so, knowing that, then it's currently legal. But the potential unintended consequences are hard to measure or even imagine.

Kale tastes disgusting served raw, no matter how much you massage it. It needs to be cooked.

I have yet to find anything to put in oatmeal that conceals the fact that it tastes like paste. Wish I could, because it's so cheap. I hate sweet breakfasts and am trying to eat minimal sugar. I also have between 5 minutes and no time at all to make and eat breakfast before I have to go to work. Won't be improved by waking…

I know this is an old thread, but I'm really, really struggling with high-protein lunches for my desk job. I have essentially no free time. My work hours are well over 40 per week, commute is about 3 hours per day. I also have chronic pain issues, so intensive cooking like weekend meal prep is out (too painful). It seems…
