An ex-Londoner here now living abroad. Your pictures and descriptions make me quite nostalgic and your enthusiasm shines through. Happy biking!

Try chunky soups or stew in a flask. Even in warm weather, hot food feels a lot more satisfying IMO and after a morning at work, a few sad veggies just don’t really do it for me.

This is why I avoid accountability partners. Overrated IMO. Everyone is different and it’s usually best to go at your own pace - whether that be faster than your buddies or slower (for example, I think it is unfair that you should feel the need to “tone down” your enthusiasm - as if enthusiasm isn’t precious enough!).…

Try eating in. There are some amazing websites out there explaining how to cook something as simple as a boiled egg/heating up cans in a hotel room kettle to poaching salmon + veg in a coffee jug! (Just promise to wash properly for the next person!!) There are plenty of soups and noodles you can buy which mix with hot…

I’m no expert, but you say you’ve increased your fibre intake. Make sure you also increase your intake of water. Fibre can absorb a lot (albeit this is probably localised to your gut). I know dehydration gives me headaches/nausea. Otherwise, I second all those above advising against extreme changes of any sort, if you can.

Sounds like great progress. Keep doing what you’re doing?

Ooh - top trivia! Thanks.

Unlike some of the other posters, I would recommend NOT having a diet break. If you do, you give yourself permission to “quit when the going gets tough” and I think when you’re in a negative place, a diet “break” can easily turn into a binge. Imagine putting those 31lbs back on! Nooooooo! Instead, use this tricky time to…

Genius. Remind me to refuse sprinkles on my ice cream when round yours though.

I have just tried chia pudding. It’s satisfying and has that nice, gooey quality that feels like a treat. However, it is super “expensive” calorie-wise, so net-net, am a bit disappointed.

Anecdotally, you’d think there was some correlation. However, I cook 90% of my meals from scratch. The rest are eaten in restaurants when I socialise (i.e not cos I don’t want to cook) and I’m overweight. So, my point is that you can get overweight on “whole foods” just as you can on palm oil. The reference your Mum makes…

If you want it to be true, and want to click on an internet advert which pays me to tell you that it’s true, then it’s true.

I totally sympathise. I tend to do all my “losing” early in the week. By Fri/Sat/Sun, I’ve socialised like hell and ended up either down a tiny bit (if I am lucky) or net neutral. I used to fight it and be a hermit, but that’s no way to live. Saving up a calorie deficit is the best strategy in my experience. HOWEVER, on a…

I recognise a lot of these comments - particularly the ones about “ooh, don’t get too thin” (I am currently right at the top of “normal weight” BMI within a whisper of “overweight” - I’ll start worrying about “being too thin” when my trousers are falling down, NOT while I can’t pull them up and over my thighs!!) However, I…

What kind of magic spell to use?

I love me some crunchy cornichons.

I made falafel. I used a lovely, authentic recipe that said on NO ACCOUNT use chickpeas from a can. Cook the dried sort and use them. I thought “whatever - I haven’t time for that and I know what I’m doing”. They came out like sloppy cowpats. Didn’t make that mistake again. Should’ve listened to the expert.

So what’s a strawberry?

I think it’s a shame that non-premium members can’t start threads. It means that threads turnover less often and I’m not as inclined to check in with MFP as often. Surely MFP WANT people on the app all the time to keep their ad viewings up.

Oops - sorry @pancakerunner! Thanks for the pictures!

I’ve been having a tough time recently - everything going wrong. I’ve been sticking to my plan throughout the past month. However, this lunchtime, I cracked. I’d had enough as I got another piece of bad news. So I made myself a huge bowl of creamy, cheesey carbonara packed with lardons. Came in at 980 calories (bear in…

All of the above. Also - get to grips with soups and salads. Soups are great for using up all that veg that has started to look a bit sad. Whizz up with a stock cube, maybe some herbs, that last bit of blue cheese - get creative. You can even add lettuce and fruit (an apple can be great in some soups) Salads - thing have…

I hear you! I suspect the backlash was initially against “juicing” whereby people were replacing whole meals (or entire diets) with juiced rather than whole foods. Unfortunately, this seems to have morphed into attacks against those simply enjoying juice as part of a balanced diet, which misses the point entirely. It seems…

Just the one?

Not very. s’Sunday innit. Watching the Ashes in my pants.

Why do people raise their hands to their heads after a close call? For example, if I am watching a game of football (soccer) and my team narrowly misses the goal, me and the whole crowd reach for our heads and hiss “ooooooooh” I’m sure there must be some biological trigger or something? e.g. reaching to protect our weakest…

Yes, I’m foc- -oh look, a squirrel!

I’m amazed how ready people are to make jokes about being “forgetful” when it comes to a thread relating to dementia. I was going to provide examples of what you probably wouldn’t joke about when referring to other progressive and incurable diseases that destroy loved ones’ lives - like MS and cancer, but I deleted them…

Not every ethical belief comes with the built-in requirement to persuade others to your cause. Maybe the person posting respects others ability to come to their own decisions and doesn’t feel the need to impose their own set of morals on others, particularly when it isn’t relevant to the question asked. The OP’s issue she…

I’m an emotional eater - but the triggers are gradually losing their power as I have gained in consciousness about my eating AND my feelings. A great way to increase that consciousness is to log your food (or as @88olds suggests, keep a diary - just a notepad in the kitchen might do). Second tip is to PAUSE TO OBSERVE. My…
