You need to find out if they tested ferritin, or just haemoglobin. Especially relevant if you have heavy periods and/or are vegetarian/vegan.

If you are recovering from multiple injuries it may not be the best time to work on losing weight - your body needs a lot of good nutrition to heal. Perhaps others who know more about this than me can add their thoughts? Do you have any ideas why your appetite is so poor? eg are you having to take pain relief?

It sounds like your GP needs to clarify whether s/he is confident that this stems from a dietary deficiency, or whether you in fact have Pernicious Anaemia. Have you had a blood test for intrinsic factor antibodies?
