When my gym closed because of covid, I was worried about how I was going to manage. Luckily I have a Elyptical at home, and went to the internet for workout ideas. I bought 2- 15 lb barbells, and got creative with them. I actually found I'm trying things I've never thought much of before. I'll always go back to the gym…

Lol!!! I thought I was alone on this. I've gone from 199 to 212 since coronavirus lockdown. Before virus, I was working, seeing clients, walking the mall, going to the gym, doing grocery....ect. but basically being house locked most of the time, dealing with the mental aspect of it has been difficult. Not as much movement,…

Hi Pju 11. 2 things. If you're just walking, then do more. I've honestly found that walking is almost useless. We walk miles a day just by nature. Your heart rate needs to go up, and you need to sweat a little. Definitely jog to fatigue, changing speeds here and there. Number 2, and most of all....have patience. 3 weeks is…

I don't believe in programs (like WW) myself. I know it's been said million times, but it's all about calories in vs calories out. That is the just of it...right? I was able to go from 241 to 199, just by using the fitness pal calorie counter, with the exercise cardiovascular counter as well. It took a year to do. I feel…

Thank you gaelicstorm. Since seeing your post, I have done some research , and called my sister (she is a doctor). There are risks associated with diabetes, when coupled with excessive exercise. As someone who isn't a diabetic, I was ignorant to the medical cautions she needs to care for. I apologize for that. She should…

Hi sparky00721. I realize I am late to your question. I get asked a lot of questions at the gym. Not because I'm anything great. Only because people remember me, from when I started 2.5 years ago, I've lost 52 pounds and added muscle. My Planet Fitness location keeps its members, so we've all seen who is progressing.…

Hey panini911. Thanks for the confirmation on the protein bars. I love the cliff bodybuilder bars. I used to buy the 18 pack at Costco, but felt they were hurting my efforts. At 300 calories per bar, 2 bars take up 600 calories. Maybe I'll look up some protein bar recipes and try making them. How much calories do you think…

Hey crosslife. 1200 calories is really low. You should shoot for at least 1500. This is the recommended "healthy level". I agree with the other answers, in terms of not worrying about macros so much. Lean more toward protein foods to fill your calories goal. Definitely have your eggs in the morning. Chicken breast, cheese,…

Thanks 4Leafmint. I'm still trying to get over the first lift. You know....when you can hardly breath. After that the second , third and so on gets easier. I find deadlift exhausting, but understand it should be. I'll take your advise. Start with comfortable and work up. Maybe give deadlift it's own day and do dips the…

Thanks David. Yes, 2 weeks isn't nearly enough time to give it a chance. I guarantee, if you stay with the 1900 calories, with 150 of it being protein, you'll see results. You will get bigger, but leaner (if possible. You're pretty lean). I used to take the scales word over what I saw in the mirror. I learned to believe my…

Thanks liz0269 and phycod787. Yes you're absolutely right. At the end of the day I would take calories over everything else in the "matter" department. There are different roads to travel. You need to determine yours as an individual. For sure. Liz, I don't know you, but I've helped my father get through cancer. I'm proud…

Hey Chiefflrg, thanks. Wow!!! Power lifting at 50. That's another level...good for you. Give me your thoughts on two things. 1) when I mentioned "body fighting because of age". I was referring to the fact that men lose testosterone due to age. And that waist weight we're always fighting off. I've managed pretty good, but I…

That sounds great!! I'm 50 in July. Two years ago I was 242 pounds. I saw a blog online called "ripped at 50". I felt inspired by the blog and set a two year goal of reaching it. I'm now currently 205 pounds at 6" 2 and feel great. I used to make excuses to my then 12 year old son, that I couldn't play basketball with him…

Macros matter incredibly. The % of what you put in your body will have a large degree of say over the result. You can't have muscle build without protein. You have energy without carbs. You need healthy fats to make it all work. There are things you can tinker with. But protein, carbs, fats need the right mix for an…

Hey, you look pretty lean to me. From my point of view based on my experience is, my greatest enemy is patience. I'll say it again...patience. Understand that what we're really doing is "body transformation". The body is very complex and needs time to adjust to the changes we are forcing on it. What you're doing is great.…

The great thing about technology is the measure of our advancement, and how it improves our lives. I tell my 13 year old son all the time. When I was his age, we didn't have cell phones to walk around with. If we weren't home, you didn't get us. Late home from school?? My mom sat on the porch, anxious for my return. Now, I…

I tried an IF window of 11am to 7pm for about 2 months. I found I was looking at the clock waiting for 11am. My best progress and dicipline came from eating my 8am breakfast. I don't eat after 7pm, and top out my calories at 1600 for the day. With 170 of it being protein (130 of it acheived through 3 chicken breast within…

You have great advise here already. I've tried a multitude of different techniques. At the end of the day, what I found worked best was....having a good breakfast (8am) of about 450 calories. Having the 11am snack. Having the 2:30 lunch. The 500 calorie dinner at 7pm. If necessary, a small bag of peanuts at 9pm. With what…
