I’ve had a personal trainer for a year and I haven’t lost any weight from working with the trainer but feel stronger .. however with the recent Covid situation I’ve been thinking maybe I should work on saving a little more money ... we never know what could happen ... and also there are a lot of apps that give you good challenging workouts and aren’t as expensive ..
Second - I don’t want to go into a gym until I feel it’s safe to go so I don’t think the virtual session is worth the money ... I may go back when I am actually able to go see them in the gym again
I feel bad taking this decision because I have worked hard with my trainer but I think it’s best for now .. would you guys agree ?

Whatever works for you, and fits your lifestyle.
BTW, weight is lost through a calorie deficit, exercise can certainly help. If your goal is weight loss, you need to weigh, measure, and log everything accurately, and be at a calorie deficit.
No need to feel bad about doing it on your own. You know the routine after a year. Many people are making hard choices during these times. It’s understandable.1 -
Weight loss is not your trainer's responsibility and probably not something they are trained to do anyway.
I try to take care of people who take care of me and I am exceedingly loyal. However, that does not mean I would risk my health or financial security to follow those ideals. In my area the virus is present but not prevalent so for right now I am going to be evaluating the potential for my return to the gym on a weekly basis as soon as they reopen.4 -
When my gym closed because of covid, I was worried about how I was going to manage. Luckily I have a Elyptical at home, and went to the internet for workout ideas. I bought 2- 15 lb barbells, and got creative with them. I actually found I'm trying things I've never thought much of before. I'll always go back to the gym when it reopens. I miss the atmosphere, conversations between sets, and hello's.
My issue is more about controlling my diet. I almost stayed away from the "late snack " last night, but lost the battle. I'll get them tonight.
Diet has been hard to keep during covid. Any advise? We know diet is the largest part.0 -

There is no too late to have a snack as long as it doesn't cause sleep problems or reflux so you could just leave some calories so you can have something.
Otherwise make sure to always log before you eat. Force yourself to be accountable for where you are on your calorie budget for the day. Inserting a step that also heightens awareness between you and the food gives you another chance at making a good decision.3 -
I decided to cut down and have the session with my trainer once a week. I also got a peloton - I am going to cut down on other monthly expenses to make up for it.0

To be honest if one is motivated no reason to see a trainer weekly or multiple times a week. After an introductory period where the trainer assesses, trains in proper form, etc,. the trainee should be able to get a program from a trainer, and do the program as prescribed. Maybe go back once a month or so for form check, modifications, new programming etc.
No need for a motivated person to pay someone to count reps2 -

I think it depends on your sport and personality. I’m a compulsive over-exerciser and I do Olympic lifting. I see my coach once a week; he ensures I don’t overtrain and takes care of my various injuries, and also coaches me in oly lifting (too technical for me to do well by myself). He also pushes me to new limits that I would be scared of trying.0
