  • Thank you for sharing your story. It sounds like what you do in maintenance is similar to you did when you were losing weight? Is that the case? Are there any major differences between what you do now versus what you did? I’m interested in the mental aspects even more than what you eat and how you exercise. Thanks!
  • My NSV is that I did not eat in the evenings after dinner for 7 straight days. Once I start eating in the evenings, even healthy foods, I want more food. There is a psychological component to this behavior, and I am really happy to be working on changing this behavior (habit)..
  • I’m so proud of you for recognizing your lack of control over others and using the loss of your grandma as motivation to be the best version of you. Look back on your words when you get discouraged. They are insightful. 😀
  • You have extended your life expectancy by years! Way to go. What is the biggest difference you feel by not carrying around the excess weight?
  • This is a fairly common question on MFP because there seem to be a lot of doctors recommending it. I think the confusion comes from the use of the word “diet”. I believe the recommendation is for a way of eating, like what @lemurcat2 described above versus a specific food plan (eat 2 of these, 1 of this, etc).
  • Every 6-8 weeks. I notice changes in that interval, but doubt I would if I did less than once a month. ) I’m in menopause, so I don’t have to factor in my monthly cycle.)
  • I understand about having the tv on as background noise, especially when I use to live alone. Reading in the bedroom instead of putting on the TV in the living room really helps me. Perhaps you could try a new hobby to keep your hands and mind busy. I like coloring or doing a puzzle. Breaking the association between…
  • I’m sure your support was appreciated and hopefully they will reappear, for their own sake. It is hard to watch others struggle and give up. I hate it when I see myself doing less of the things that work for me, whatever the reason. It is wonderful to know there are caring individuals on MFP assisting those that reach out.…
  • You have grown tremendously in this past year. Congratulations on your hard work and willingness to change.
  • What an inspiring post. Your consistency has paid off. It must feel great to walk and participate in activities that weren’t possible at 566 lbs
  • I was overweight/obese during both pregnancies and only gained 12 lbs with each one. I ended up at a lower weight a few weeks after delivering than where I started, but that’s only because I did not overeat during pregnant. My best advice is to focus on getting most of your calories from unprocessed foods and to exercise…
  • The biggest challenge for the past 6-9 months has been avoiding people in public who are not wearing their masks properly and keeping 6’ distance in public places. Sometimes I wonder if common sense even exists anymore. I had the J&J shot 11 days ago, but no one else in my home has been vaccinated. Most of my friends have.…
  • Interesting topic. I don’t believe that fear is what holds me back from accomplishing anything in my life. The only time I experience fear is from a dangerous situation - a car that is going too fast when I’m a pedestrian, coming face-to-face with a wild animal. I believe discipline is why I do and don’t reach goals. A…
  • Way to go! Consistency and persistency are definitely important in this journey.
  • I had an extraction about 6 months ago and went through the same thing. It was hard to find savory and warm foods I could eat. I sautéed onions and garlic in oil, added cumin and oregano, and then added an extra large can of black beans. I then used the immersion blender and some chicken broth to get it to a consistency I…
  • I love the tortilla lime crusted tilapia! So convenient to pull out one and stir fry some veggies for a quick meal. I also highly recommend the frozen salmon burgers. They are all salmon, no fillers. My husband loves the shelled pistachios and they have a nice mixed nut mix - almonds, pecans, macadamias, Brazil nuts and…
  • Getting outside and walking with a friend. I feel great! Icy roads kept me inside and walking alone this past week. Exercising indoors isn’t as much fun. And with a friend the duration is usually twice as long.
  • I do not care for the taste of artificial sweeteners.I tried the Skinny Syrups based on how many people on MFP love them, but it ruined my coffee! ☹️😝 I use vanilla soy milk in my coffee most days, but if I’m out I use milk and no sweetener. I have a regular root beer once or twice a year. I eat low-fat Greek yogurt and…
  • When I started my weight loss journey this time around, May 2nd, 2020, I looked for the answer to this question everywhere! What I found was what @Lietchi said above. But I was able to quantify it anecdotally. At sizes 18 and above (U.S.), it takes at least a 30 lbs to go down a size. I found my shirt size went down before…
  • I’m a recent convert too. I don’t care for it raw but love it in stir fry. My favorite combo is with onion, red bell pepper, and garlic. I throw in zucchini or green beans too if I have them. I could eat it every day.
  • Yum! How you prepared it is exactly how my family likes to eat it. When I make it is the oven or it is too soft/squishy, they won’t eat it.
  • I find his books insightful and adopt what I can. The Daily Dozen checklist is really useful and can be used by anyone. Check your local library if you want to read the books. That’s how I’ve read How Not to Die and the How Not to Die Cookbook.
  • Are you well hydrated? The foods you mentioned didn’t include fruits and veggies. So I would include them as well as plenty of water. I know you are focused on muscle recovery but the nutrients and the fiber in the plant based foods will help your energy level and overall recovery.
  • I have an expression “scale relative weight” that I live by. The number is always going to vary between scales, so I use mine at home as my guide. It keeps me from second guessing. I’m not sure why your doctor believes that nonsense about his new scale. It is not possible for it to be that “smart”. As long as his advice…
  • So glad to hear it’s not just me! This confirmation is actually what I was looking for this morning. The first one was weird/bizarre. Now it’s just annoying. 😋🤣
  • Anonymouslyfree, it sounds like you have a good plan that is working for you. Be prepared that you will need to be flexible over time. Try new foods that you prepare rather than relying on packaged foods. By eating more foods in their natural state your palate will change over time and you will crave less junk. And most…
  • Fitting in size 14 jeans/pants consistently. (We all know how different brands are not the same.) 16s are getting loose but I’m not there yet.
  • Wearing a purse of mine crossbody. 45 lbs ago it barely went over my shoulder and boobs. Now it hangs down properly and is comfortable to wear that way. Woohoo!
  • Are you trying to eat more veggies or eat more vegetables as side dishes? The cheese soup mentioned above is a great way to eat more veggies. Or add shredded veggies like carrots or zucchini, to spaghetti sauces or chili. You were given some great suggestions for how to prepare cooked veggies. My favorites are roasted,…
  • That is great work. Thatistry inspirational. Yet, somehow we forget or get side tracked! It always does come back to that. When I do the work, the results follow.
