  • Check out Jessica Smith's 6 week plan. It covers everything - cardio, strength, balance, abs, stretching. She even has her 60 year old mother in her videos showing easier versions. She is low key and it's very doable. Six of my friends and family are using her DVD. We are all over 60 and started at various fitness levels.…
  • I'm in my mid 60's and still hike and backpack.....with people in their 70's and 80's. I've gotten slower but I don't care. I plan on doing what I can for as long as I can.
  • Start with something doable for you. Through trial and lots or error I found a daily walk is something I can stick with. I was also swimming a few times a week (but that's on hold) and using Jessica Smith yoga strength dvd's. If what you can do is a 10 minute walk then that's where you start. The other posts are very…
  • I like Jessica Smith DVD's. She's low key, gives instructions on how to make the workouts harder or easier, and always seems to add in core work even if the focus is upper body weights.

And when I see a large/fat/obese person working out I'm thinking "Way to go!"
  • I hiked the Cotswolds last October. One of the innkeepers said the people who have difficulty are from places that are flat. I live in the Appalachian mountains so I never see flat. It was hilly, and muddy, and windy, and wonderful. I used a company called Macs Adventures. They book your accommodations, move your luggage,…
  • For range of motion yoga is great. I'm otherwise healthy, I can walk for miles, but my range of motion is pathetic. I've started back with yoga and I'm already seeing improvements after only a few weeks.

  • I have Vasque, Merrills, Keen, Oboz, and Salomon. I've even been know to hike in rainboots. ( I live near the Smokies and hike a lot) Love them all but the trail and the weather determine what I wear. The key is not only to get the right fit but make sure they are laced properly.
