  • When I can’t get fresh corn-on-the-cob, I prefer tinned to frozen. Chickpeas and kidney beans are better from tins for me (saves the soaking time). I think those are probably the only tinned vegetables I eat, so I don’t worry too much about the nutritional differences.

  • I’ll vote for Garmin. A full charge lasts a good week (depending on what activities you’re tracking), and I love the data (sleep, heart rate), and it syncs with MFP effortlessly. I don’t need my watch for calls, emails, or to listen to music. YMMV.
  • Here’s two that popped up yesterday:
  • That is GENIUS! Solves lots of issues from people working shifts or irregular eating patterns!!
  • On Garmin Connect, in the ‘Calories In/Out’ section there is a link to ‘Log Calories in MFP’ which opens the app on my iPhone at the food diary page*: I imagine there must be a way to add this as a function for many apps that are able to link to MFP, or even as a standalone widget for the mobile app. *It takes just as many…
  • Ok… check my maths? 100 days total calories Garmin estimated expended (RMR + Active) = 201,599 100 days calories recorded = 154,910 So weight loss expected 13.3lb (201,599 - 154,910 = 46,689/3,500) Actual weight difference 12.4lb (12.4lb x 3,500= 43,400) Margin of error (either Garmin overestimating, or my recorded…
  • @AnnPT77, NOT random (I think you have about 8 years of maintenance experience?) and clearly NOT an idiot. I am very much grateful to you and @Lietchi for the advice - no use having a posh watch if the data from it is meaningless!! For yesterday, it gives 1588 RMR and 1455 active (3043), on a really inactive desk day 1596…
  • I have been doing it most Saturdays for years but I’d say it’s still pretty challenging! Walking, sometimes running, up and down slopes in full ski gear, still able to hold conversation - only very rare bursts when fully out of breath. I’m 52 in a couple of months, and it’s using Garmin’s age-related assumptions of heart…
  • That’s interesting - I’ll try that next week and see how it compares! On the weekdays I’m sitting at a desk and an occasional lunchtime walk, hence any other settings overestimated my BMR. I am getting exactly the results I expect from my deficit at the moment, but as I head into maintenance territory I will want a better…
  • Loaded Protein Pancakes, raspberries, quarter teaspoon of Canderel Sugarly. 50g of the mix makes 3 or 4 of these. (I don’t actually like eating breakfast, but I’m trying different ways of getting more protein into my diet.)
  • Hi, I have Garmin connected to MFP. I have set MFP to ‘lightly active’, so Garmin doesn’t allocate any extra calories until I reach a threshold. I do not have ‘negative calories’ on my settings. I use ‘Hiking’ as an activity each week, but I am actually teaching at a dry ski slope, so I do a LOT of walking uphill and only…
  • Can I also add an observation that a seemingly randomly-generated username also scores highly on my personal ‘spam-o-meter’… If you plan on sticking around, perhaps you might want to change it to something more memorable/meaningful (particularly if you want others to be able to search for your pearls of wisdom)?
  • I just don’t feel hunger until about 4pm, and usually eat at about 6pm, done by 8pm. It used to be unusual, but now IF/OMAD is trendy, people ‘admire’ my ‘discipline’ (instead of nagging me to eat). When I am on a skiing holiday and need the energy, I do eat 3-square (eating breakfast is still a real chore!): on returning…
  • This! :star:
  • Oh yeah, and “Can you please give me motivation?”. I mentally grit my teeth when I read that one.
  • 👋🏻 Can we also add “Anyone tried this Intermittent Fasting thing?” I honestly think you guys are the glue holding this Community together… I see a ‘new’ question (actually asked a thousand times before) and have a little guess at who got the first reply out of @AnnPT77, @Springlering62, @cmriverside, or @ninerbuff (edit to…
  • I keep a stash of these handy for the post-dinner sweet tooth moment… they’re surprisingly good for 77 calories!
  • 🤯 Glad I don’t eat tuna! 🤣
  • I just want to say “Great job!”, and keep doing what you’re doing, as it’s obviously giving you the right results! 👍
  • I’ve gained with Intermittent Fasting (IF), I’ve lost with IF, the only difference between the two states is the amount of calories consumed. IF isn’t a magic bullet. Trust the maths.
  • If it comes with grated cheese, I’ll join you in the corner. However, I may be asked to leave the room entirely if I mention “baked beans with sausages” on toast, also with grated cheese on top…😋 (Please don’t ask about the nutritional content of the sausages! 🫣)
  • My Garmin watch can sync directly with MFP. However, my smart scales only write to their own app (Healthkeep) but that app can connect to Apple Health. Apple Health is useless in itself but connects to both MFP and Happy Scale (a better data tracking app than Apple Health), so is a useful intermediary app. You may just…
  • I usually only eat once a day - never really been into breakfast or lunch - but I might occasionally eat these meals ‘socially’ so I keep the labels anyway. I like to log my breakfast coffee and daily vitamins as ‘Breakfast’, then my meal as ‘Dinner’: I am separately tracking ‘Alcohol’ as I am interested in my consumption…
  • Was that a typo - do you mean 12 (not 2), or is that US sizing (if so, please forgive my ignorant UK-centric question)? I don’t think the size labels in clothes really mean anything… It depends on the material, and the make - and apparently they’ve changed over the years, too. I got into a size 10 briefly, but I probably…

  • Not to my knowledge, no.
  • Sounds interesting (especially the sodium)! I have often wondered how WW and Slimming World points compare to calorie counting.
  • 1. Sweet corn/corn on the cob 2. Potatoes - preferably Vivaldi (but I never met a potato I didn’t like) 3. Patak’s Lime Pickle 4. Mature cheddar 5. Salted butter I could probably last more than a month... in fact, don’t come and fetch me until September.
  • This one really resonates with me, too!
