That is amazing! - I am hoping for that and using my CPAP in the meantime.
-
Update : still working on the weight loss, but my CPAP treatment has been a success. My data from the 4 week trial showed that my sleep apnea score dropped from around 70 to 0.5 (per hour). Can't ask for much better than that.

Yes - and the OP didn't ask for scientific data, they asked "what do you think?" so I gave my opinion, along with a personal anecdote. Sorry you find that to be a "problem". I don't know what "sudden heart issue" your friend had, yes anyone can have a heart defect, but the OP was talking specifically about CHF.
-
I think it is lifestyle. Anecdotally I know an acquaintance who was diagnosed with CHF at age 50 - she smokes and drinks at least a bottle of wine a day, more on weekends. Parents are both active and healthy in their 70's.

I think silken tofu would come close to the texture, but not sure how you might season that to approximate the taste of avocado on toast. My husband eats hummus on toast - that with some tomatoes/veggies might be a good substitute for you. (I feel your pain - I am allergic to chick peas so all the good hummus-y foods are…

If you "don't mind feeling hungry" what about not eating in the morning and loading up your calories later in the day, closer to bed time? Maybe that would help with the sleep issue even if your calories are lower.

I was actually referring the the newer published study from March 2022 that you posted in the OP - it wasn't an animal study - and it seemed that the funding for that one was from various French and European public health agencies which struck me as legitimate. I do get that study results can be skewed based on the various…
-
Sorry - are you suggesting that the French National Cancer Institute (and other gov't agencies) that funded the study, and the scientists that took part, did so in order to "scare dieters"? To what end?
-
I see your point as being: if the science is supposedly "settled' then why are they still running studies? Which I think is a valid question. For me personally I don't like the taste of artificial sweeteners in tea so I use a bit of honey, but I do drink the occasional diet Pepsi (not sure if that is aspartame or something…

This is why I am a pretty good cook but a terrible baker - exact measuring and specific ingredients are not for me. Even if I am following a recipe I rarely stick to it exactly.
-
Not sure if this is directed at me - but yeah I know what relative vs absolute risk is. This does answer my question regarding the "agenda" belief though. Cheers

1. Do you think that a food survey regarding how many servings of meat one eats in general would be that inaccurate though? I am guessing that they aren't asking for specifics but rather a general pattern of eating - I imagine most people would know if they generally eat two or more servings of meat per week. 2. OK I'm not…

https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jamainternalmedicine/fullarticle/2759737 "The study found that people who ate two servings per week of red meat or processed meat had a 3% to 7% higher risk (respectively) of cardiovascular disease, including heart attack and stroke, and a 3% higher risk of death from all causes." There are…

I think it depends on why you take them. I took Zoloft (25 years ago) and gained weight. But my BMI was like 17 and I was taking it for an anxiety/OCD disorder - at that time in my life my anxiety killed my desire to eat. So the medication did what it was supposed to and I gained weight. My opinion is that it is the change…

Yes thank you I do have access.

I also tried to join, and also got the spam message. I would like to join.

I do the same thing - I am allergic to chick peas and pretty sure that I have a mild allergy to peanuts (and maybe other legumes) because they make my tongue hurt, only if I eat a lot of them. But I have been eating them my whole life and still do. I have also heard that you have to be careful because allergies can get…

@LifeChangz Thank you for your post - lots of helpful advice that I will try to implement. So this evening before bed I have 1) logged all my food for tomorrow, using the suggestions I have included a larger afternoon/evening snack for when I get home from work, and then a smaller than usual dinner. So the calories will be…

Yeah maybe I will be like the joke about how retired people eat dinner at 4:30. :) Right now I am working and have to eat around my work/commuting schedule, so after breakfast and lunch if I have too much of a snack after work I won't have enough calories left for dinner (which I have with my spouse around 6:30-7). I'm not…

Thanks for taking the time to share your strategies with me, I will try some of them. The book I'm reading about binge eating says to notice your urges and separate yourself and not act on them - and I'm like "ok if I knew how to do that then I wouldn't be in this situation" lol. So some concrete strategies to use will be…

Thanks it is good to know I am not alone, it is hard to admit some of those thoughts out loud sometimes, it really makes me feel weak and, I don't know, like there is something wrong with me that I can't get a handle on this. I think I had my glucose tested with regular blood work during my check ups. My doctor has never…

I despise cottage cheese :) - but I get your point. I will be experimenting and making adjustments going forwards.

I'm not discounting it, I just wouldn't do it myself. I did an ultra low carb diet (not carnivore) for 6 weeks and my knee arthritis also improved noticeably. It was not easy to stick with though. Anecdotally I've heard people say the same thing about a vegan, or really any whole food diet, though. I tend to think that…
-
Really? I find the links and research very interesting. Maybe it's just me but the whole search for the "perfect" diet I find very intriguing. (I mean I would never eat a carnivore diet even if it was found to be the best (because eww). But I would never eat Lucky Charms either. I tend to lean towards the belief…

Yeah they really make a difference in enjoyment for me for my eggs, and sauteed and air fried veggies. I think I have recipes for some oil free salad dressings though so I will start trying to cut back on that side of it and see how I like that.

I think I will use this thread and leave my diary open for accountability - I think it helps me stick to plan a bit to kind of "put it out there" in writing. So today my current weight is 218.4. I am going out for brunch so will have to work around that for the rest of the day. Already did my treadmill/bike this morning,…

I think it might just be an exceptionally bad year for it? Idk if it has to do with coming out of isolation from the pandemic or what - but my husband and I are vaccinated and boosted, have already both had covid (my experience was close to yours - pretty *kitten*), and we got our flu shots as well. And are both sick for…

My profile was public not my diary - I changed it. I think I was eating around that amount, but I wasn't tracking super consistently. I also did 20 minutes each on the treadmill and spin bike each day, and some weights, which I plan to continue, and I walk my dog 30 minutes (she's 13.5 so it's not a great workout - but…

Oh my profile was open not my diary. I fixed it. I do cook a lot with olive oil, and have it on my salads. Like yesterday for dinner I cooked fish in olive oil & garlic, air fried green beans tossed in oil, and had it on my salad. That is probably too much I should probably find other ways to cook, or maybe at least make…

Where is this chart from (link?) I am trying to determine the context.
