  • Ali, I'm Ali too and on the same page as you. I have about a 20 pounds in 6 month goal as well. Let's do this!
  • Wow, you guys are so supportive, esp. this above last post (Mahana). I've never looked at it that way, and that means a lot...thanks so much. I hate that others feel the same way, although it's nice to know there is someone empathizing with you. Also, as far as keeping things in the house...I usually don't. If I want a…
  • From a mathematical/physiological standpoint, you'll lose about an average of 1 lb. per week (roughly - everyone is different, but calories in and calories out is truly the equation for weight loss). Sounds like you know what you're doing, and are very well balanced and aspire for long-term results, so keep up your…
  • I would also love new friends if anyone wants to add me :) I reached my goal weight but have gained it back since I started working night shifts (BLEH!) and am trying to get back to where I was without slipping too far...need to stop craving pancakes and pizza at all hours of the day; need to stop BUYING them!
  • And to answer your question about goals, I think my workout routine needs some tweaking - I'm going to start swimming for fitness (haven't done this ever, except for playtime as a child...). My boyfriend is an elite triathlete and I've been inspired by his races this past wkd.
  • OP, you sound exactly like me! I started using MFP at beginning of the year and lost a good amount, and I have since regained about 10 lbs. Trying to shed them off again - our statistics are kind of similar. I just returned from Vegas, hehe, so NOW I'm ready to start going again. I friended you! :)
  • Me too! Adding yall ;)
  • Haha awesome you sound just like me.
  • You can't truly change your body by getting on the elliptical and reading US Weekly for 20 minutes a day, 3 days a week. Get thin, but get FIT and athletic while doing so.
  • You actually cannot use a HRM to accurately count calories when STRENGTH training. Only for cardio. Your HRM is counting your heart rate, but not the amount of oxygen your muscles consume. Here is a more in-depth explanation from one source: http://www.sparkpeople.com/community/ask_the_experts.asp?q=75 Just think about it…
  • Sure you can exercise, just don't do any strength training with your legs. You can definitely do cardio, and it will help release the lactic acid build-up in your muscles. You shouldn't exercise your specific muscles that are sore with resistance, but you can definitely do cardio. No excuses! I did 200 squats and 200…
  • Bolthouse Farms makes an awesome Mango Protein juice, I have been using it as the basis for a lot of my smoothies. I have a smoothie for breakfast almost every morning, I get a lot of fiber throughout the day and try to concentrate on protein in the morning, but here are some ideas: -Scoops of protein powder, vanilla or…
  • Wonderful idea with the vanilla concept, I usually make fruit/kale based smoothies but I really like the idea of more of a "milkshake", I feel like it would keep me full longer. Love the almond milk idea, thanks so much!!!
  • Protein does it for me, especially if you regularly consume fiber. I only eat whole grains, so for a couple of years now I get a minimum of 100% of my RDA of fiber. It will help keep you full, but from a mental/emotional standpoint, protein keeps the hunger away longer for me!
  • Lemon juice makes it super yummy and a great substitute for the calories of olive oil (yes, OO is super healthy but the calories can still sneak up on ya if you're going for weight loss). ...combined, these two are actually pretty strong diuretics....so drink water! Or enjoy a flatter stomach in the morning ;)
  • You can't not eat the rest of the day, you'll starve, slow down your metabolism drastically, and your body will not let you lose weight. Don't have the "all or nothing" mindset and eat whatever you want the rest of the day, but I would snack very lightly until dinner, and have a light dinner that is mainly vegetables. I am…
  • My favorite thing is self-created, I make a Basil-Chicken-Quinoa bowl (aka, stirfry). Have you seen those tubes at the grocery in the refridgerated produce section of squeezable fresh chopped herbs? I know, I should use fresh Basil but I live alone and it's too expensive to only buy and use once. ... I start with a base of…
  • HautePink, I'm going to do it with you. Wanna keep each other in check? Let me know if so... :)
  • Omg, that's a great challenge. I do want to do it with you...but...freaked out! Haha. I incorporated them into my routine this AM and was dying after 5, had to stop at 12 :/
  • I made a resolution two years ago and am now a nutritionist, avid exerciser, and health junkie. And nurse. I also like my sweets though... I would recommend seriously getting a book to help your mentality. http://www.amazon.com/Finally-Thin-Lost-Pounds-Off/dp/0767929500 This book is wonderful and has helped to completely…
  • Eating a snack before bed is actually a good health habit, it helps to keep your blood sugar steady throughout the night - leading to a healthier (aka faster) metabolism. I'm a nurse and nutrition junkie. While it's probably not best to eat crap, I do have a nighttime sweet tooth and if I still have calories left over, I…
  • You can definitely do it. I'm a nurse and I've seen it happen! Just make sure to take care of yourself and manage your disease. Best of luck :)
  • This is for all those elliptical users out there... These machines almost ALWAYS overestimate calories for some reason. Almost every other machine at the gym is about accurate. I know, you can enter your weight and age, blah blah. But they drastically overestimate it. If my machine says I burned 600, I actually probably…
  • Besides lean meats and whole grains, I get added protein into my diet through Greek Yogurt and protein powders (I add them to smoothies and I add protein powder to morning oatmeal). :)
  • I am with you and while everyone's advice is great, I hate the cliche "you will learn to love it" answer. Well, I made a resolution 3 years ago and have stuck with it and built up to working out 7 days a week now. BUT - here's the kicker - I don't like it! Still everyday I don't feel like going to the gym, usually can't…
