Actually harder, the thrill achieving targets and seeing results on the scales is hard to replace. Maintaining for me is a bit of a grind, still log every day and weigh once per week very ho hum.

In my case as I aged my lifestyle and work life become more sedentary I have also found that increased financial security (kids left home) means that more money available for activities that centre around pleasure and this includes food and drink. The plus side I now have more time for exercise.

I use MFP for accountability, I match food intake with my exercise regime. i have also noticed that over time extra calories creep back into the diet, this way I know my calorie intake.

Rain isn't really a problem. Rain and wind chill factor can be. Most if not all rain jackets prevent moisture being wicked away. I find that this causes me to cool rapidly once I stop exercising and this can lead to problems.

18 months in maintenance for me, the hardest part is balancing the macros. I find it very easy to increase the carbs and drop the protein.

I have used chlorine tablets and silver iodine tablets both are ok in the short term buy can effect the tummy when used over several days. I then used a micro filter the only drawback with this is cleaning the filter and the extra weight you have to carry.

I don't race, I participate in Audax events. This weekend I am doing the Bryan Chapman Memorial a 600 km event in Wales. I just worry about base miles (450 km per week) and nutrition pre and during events no other training.
