C'mon Ryan... less discussing, more showing.

Portland people deserve the highest of fives. True story.

Not so much with the gym, but I have people saying "we should totally go running together!" all the time. I immediately crush their cardio duet dreams.

This is amazing information - thank you for sharing!

Yep! Compound lifts - squat, bench, deadlift. My week typically looks like this: Monday - Squats and 2-4 exercises to work arms & shoulders Wednesday - Bench and 2-4 exercises to work triceps Friday - Deadlift and 2-4 exercises to work back The 2-4 additional exercises are usually done with dumbbells or the machines at the…

I've been a longtime (mediocre) runner and about a month ago started lifting heavy with the sole purpose of becoming a better runner. I lift 3 days a week and run 1-2 and in one month I've gone from an 11:00+ average pace to 9:20 and my distance is only increasing. I definitely recommend it!

I've gotten so bad about wanting good coffee that I've started ordering bags from a company that ships within 24 hours of roasting the beans so that I can have the freshest possible at-home brew. It really does make all the difference.

I pretty much eat the same thing every day. LOTS of fresh cucumbers, carrots, and bell peppers with some sort of dip (usually a smoked salmon or greek yogurt dip) and a chicken sausage. Sometimes I'll even throw in a string cheese because I like to live on the edge.
-
Every morning I have a 16 oz. coffee with about a 1/4 cup of half and half. It's 85 delicious calories and worth every sip.

Over. I don't even see how this is debatable.

I used to work as a retail buyer and would often get clothing samples sent to me. Every once in a while a package would have a hilarious misspelling/misinterpretation of my name. Satch Gallamax was the coolest one and thus stuck as a nickname.

Runkeeper is another good one.

I am not the distance runner that you are, but I recently started lifting so that I could be a better distance runner. I haven't even been lifting a full month and have already noticed huge gains in my pace and endurance. So far, seems like a good combo to me :)

This is my most recent one.

Thank you for posting this - definitely helpful. I haven't even been lifting a full month yet, but I'm starting to notice a difference in my arms already.

Good luck! I have no experience as I am just hoping to make it 26.2 miles one of these days, but love hearing the stories of ultra marathoners. I have a lot of respect for that kind of ambition!

I'm not much for partying these days, so I'll finish work and hit the gym. I do have a few friends running a 5k race that starts at midnight downtown, so I might stay up past my bedtime and do that.
-
Not weird at all. Who wouldn't want to know that all of their hard work at the gym is not only noticed, but potentially inspiring to someone else?
-
Weights = amazing, so I highly recommend them. However, I did have a friend lose over 60 lbs by eating better and cycling alone (outdoors, and a LOT of it).

I was driving behind a car advertising a Giggles just yesterday. True story. Hey, at least she's a classy clown. http://www.aclassyclown.com/

High fives for adoption! My youngest brother is also a Korean adoptee. I have a fledgling little photography business/blog. I primarily keep it photo-centered but will kind of blog about anything. www.saraadamsphoto.com If anyone is in the Portland/Seattle area, you should totally hire me :)

When I am running at a good pace where I can breathe well and I feel great, my heart rate is at 183 - consistently. It freaked me out when I first got my HRM, but my doc says I'm fine and if I feel fine, I don't worry about it.
-
I haven't run a full marathon (although it's one of my goals) but I'm finding that weight lifting is really helping me become a much faster/better runner (and it helps prevent injuries).
-
I've always just bought a regular sport bra one size too small. Really cram 'em in there... but, it's not uncomfortable and they stay put when I run!
-
I'm a bit all over the place. Classic rock for powerlifting, dance/pop/hip hop for running, and on days I'm really amped up I throw on some 90s punk rock to take me back to the days of my angst-ridden teenage years :)

I'm in the Pacific Northwest and while our weather is much milder, the MOST I will ever wear when it's cold are some lightweight tights and a long sleeve tee. I get really really hot when I run so the cold air feels mighty good :)

I just started a powerlifting class, so I'm benching every week. Yes, with a trainer/instructor, but I find it helpful to have someone showing me proper form since I'm the kind of person likely to injure myself. I love it though! I'm in my second week and am up to 100lbs for 3x3. Feel pretty good about that.

I will definitely agree with the practice thing. Granted, our dog had some pretty decent leash training by the time that we adopted him, but it definitely took some time for him to truly realize that there is something attached to him that connects to me. But he eventually got it! We also worked extensively on the command…

Congrats! I'm only in my second week of lifting, but I can tell you that I'm already feeling SO much stronger and more confident than that first day. Use the time with the lighter weight to really nail your form and you'll be making huge strides in power in no time!
